I made the onion-ring chaffles WITHOUT precooking the onions. I put the onions on the waffle iron, added the chaffle batter and cooked them about a minute longer than usual. They were delicious! COULD be a great burger bun!!!
I think i would like to cut up the onion and fry it then add that to the batter and have onion all through the chaffle. It is great that there are so many ideas we can have to eat healthier.
Hello Jason, thanks for this good idea. Try to add half a teaspoon of xanfham gum instead of extra cheese for the crispiness. I've learned fhis from the Keto Twins, and it is unbeleivably yummy. They suggest to only use the egg white but lazy-me I went full egg, and I can testify that it doesn't interfere with the crispiness. So yeah, try adding xantham gum, and keep the precious cheese for a few more chaffles. Cheers !
Thanks for the comment! I personally have never liked xanthan gum, I find the taste really off putting! As for the eggs, I always use the yolks....seems like work to separate them lol! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
Thank you for this! Because I am gluten sensitive, I tend to avoid gluten, so onion rings are a no-no for me. Now I can have ONION RINGS!!!🥰 Update: made mine today. I cooked them about an extra minute and a half, and the onions tasted great, didn’t have to be precooked
Oh my gosh onion ring chaffles? YES. Love the simplicity of cooking the onion directly on the waffle iron, brilliant! YUM, the cheese and crispiness is on point! Great recipe, Jason!
First time viewer, wowsers..... that looks delish! Your idea in chopping up the onions may be the trick to do a side by side comparison and see which one I like. Cheers! Geri
Great timing that your video popped up. Got a mark down bag of 14 onions for $1. Three are slightly bad, so I was looking for various ways to use them up. Gonna go the diced route. I have missed onions rings.
This will be part of my lunch tomorrow. 👍🏻 I’ve never added the cheese to the top after they’ve mostly cooked….maybe a bit crisper that way?? I’ll try it. I know these are going to be good & I could almost smell that onion ring goodness thru the TV. lol 😀
Yeah I completely forgot to add the cheese to the top before cooking them but I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to add it after, turned out super crispy which is what I was trying for. The house did smell just like onion rings!
Tried this today using my Dash sandwich maker (instead of chaffle maker)...I added just a little pork dust to it as well. Made a great bread for bacon and avocado sandwiches! Yum!
This is much simpler than how I make them. I only use cheese and onions, which are super good and very crunchy, but I chop the onions into quarter, put the cheese on the dash, THEN the onion, but by the time I'm finishing up placing the onion, the cheese is frying. I like the idea of putting whole pieces of onion down first. Great idea!
These look delicious! I wonder if someone could make onion rings by using onions fried in pork rind crumbs. Or you could incorporate some pork rind crumbs even into the chaffles.
My first thought for these WAS to use pork rinds in the Chaffle mix to make it more like a breading, I only decided to keep them out to make the recipe a little easier. Thanks for watching and commenting with your ideas 👍
It doesn't really overpower other flavours, just adds a salty taste which I wanted with these! The best thing about Chaffles is you can use pretty much any cheese you like. Mozzarella will always be the go to if you don't want to add flavour!
That was the attraction to the Dash Mini waffle irons, they are cheap and make cheese waffles (chaffles) that are the right size for bread or buns. I have heard some people say they have cooked them in small pans but I have never tried that.
