CRUSH your GAMING BACKLOG in 2024 

Generally good advice here, if a bit more involved than what I do as a recovering game-buying addict. That first make a list step is super helpful. I myself did that not too long ago. Just a name and a system though. I know in my head the genre and a likely time to beat based on that and see no need to note those down, nor do I see a use for the total time to clear everything. And finally I think a "sort by how excited you are" probably works well for smallish backlogs, but I'm not going to sort 600 some-odd games that way. What DOES help is switching things up. Don't try to play too much of the same genre or series all at once. Doing things like "I'm gonna clear out my NES backlog" or "I'm gonna play all my shooters" or god-forbid "I'm going to catch up on Trails this year" will just lead to burnout and gaming downtime. For me with my spreadsheet I'll pick, for example, a turn-based JRPG on Steam, a Platformer on Game Boy, and an Action-Adventure on Genesis. Stick to the list as much as possible! Goes along with not buying a bunch of stuff. Personally I do still buy stuff on sale. The rationale not to makes sense, but I do it anyway. But I do limit myself on money spent, and honestly there isn't a whole lot left on my wishlist that I feel the need to buy ASAP - it's all stuff that can wait. Point is, if you can't or won't stop buying games at least put limits on it. But as said in the video, never, never, NEVER preorder or buy new games at full price. You'll save money and frustration by playing the waiting game. You don't need the preorder bonuses, trust me. Finally - this is so obvious that it didn't even show up in the video - but don't play games that you don't enjoy. Feel free to try things. But if you play something for a while and just aren't having fun with it, why are you playing? Don't fall for the sunk cost fallacy - drop it, cross it off the list, and move on to the next thing. How long is "long enough" to give the game a fair chance? Depends on the genre a bit, but even the longest games shouldn't take more than about 5 hours to know if it's something you enjoy.

Wonderful video! supper underrated. Makes me question how the algorithm knows I'm horrible with financial decisions. Bought a dark soul-like game recently, played for 10 hours, and never opened it since.

Those are very similar to the method I applied, I also have a minimalist approach to life and did the same to gaming, rather have a game I will 100% than 10 I rush through it
