I saw that live and got an autograph from her on her way to the van. I will never forget that day I called her and she turned around, asked for my name and wrote down my name and her signature into my holiday album of hers. It went all so quick. I sat in uni and randomly got a hint on twitter about taeyeon, who was seen at the Berliner Mauer. I rushed to Hackischer Markt (thats what the place, she is, is called) following twitter feed and after many hours of looking around I found her (ofc the most people stood around her camp. On that day there was a festival, where all over the city people were busking, but she had the biggest crowd.) Only around 10% of people knew her.

I absolutely love tht you've done an analysis and reaction to Taeyeon singing When we were young! I think that you would absolutely LOVE to see her Killing Voice as well! She sings a lot of her songs there that are SO techniqually difficult and unique and I would absolutely love to see your analysis and thoughts on it! She's definitely one of the three greatest female soloists in South Korea! The other two being IU and Ailee (who both have Killing Voices as well and I'd definitely love to see you react to those! since they ALL have very different styles, sound and utilization of their voices!)

Taeyeon is a masterclass in live singing and connecting with the audience, i hope you get to react to some other clips of her (her "fine" live performance is a must imo) she actually got the nickname of a woman who sings "like she has been divorced 7 times" because of how much emotion she puts in her singing

I love your technical explanations when describing Taeyeon's singing that other vocal coaches or reactors don't have. She doesn't have the greatest range or the most powerful voice but she made a name for herself for having godlike stability, especially live. Check out her live performance of Fine where she goes full Acapella and silences the crowd.

she just had a concert in my town just 3 days ago. so naturally, my youtube now filled with recommendations about her. which bring me straight here. and.. oh boy i remember that one clip. you're right, she's so chill in singing that. but.. still, you can see her voice still connects through a lot of people's feeling there, oh im sure it gets to you too at one point while reacting right? weird isnt it? she's just like that, her voice is that captivating. and mark my word on this, even when you have no idea what's she's singing about, which mostly in korean. youll see once you react to more of her later.

I just wanted to point out Taeyeon is extremely emotional when singing but I feel like here she was focusing so much in the English lyrics (because English is not her first language) that she didn't getbher normal amount of emotion out. This version is one of the most beautiful covers of this song. I love Taeyeon, maybe I'm a little bit bias with her, but she has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. For this series of covers of When We Were Young, I suggest you to hear and react to Fernando Daniel from The Voice Portugal. Spoiler Alert: He won that season :P

Taeyeon was on a Korean reality series where a group of Korean musicians traveled to Berlin to do street busking. It wasn't until people on the street starting coming up asking her for autographs that her fellows realized "Wow, you really ARE an international superstar!" Most recently Teayeon filled Seoul Olympic Stadium two night running for he one woman concert.

Absolutely loved your analysis on Taeyeon's vocals! Thank you for this. I think you'll also enjoy watching and reacting to Taeyeon's Killing Voice, in case you're not familiar with "Killing Voice" it's a youtube show/program from a channel called "Dingo" it's purpose is to showcase the raw vocals of K-Pop idols. Taeyeon did an episode of Killing Voice showcasing her vocals from deeper to high registers and also it showcases most of her solo songs so it's a video around 20+ minutes, I really think you'll enjoy it so I'm looking forward if you ever do a reaction to it.

Very enjoyable video and insightful analysis. I would be curious to hear what you think about her application of different techniques in the different types of songs in her “”Killing Voice” especially “11:11”, “U R”, “Gravity”, “Drawing our moments” and the contrast to the 2 OST she also showcases in there. In my perception Taeyeon uses what you refer to as twang quite a bit (if it fits the song) and it kind of creates a sound that is quite recognisably “Taeyeon”. I have heard other vocal coaches use terms like “nasal placement” or “front face mask” (or something like that) and assisting in the long term sustainability of a voice. So I would be curious to hear your opinion on it or the differences between the terms if there are any 😉

"...don't know about the size of her larynx..." Well, she's about 5 feet tall and maybe 100 lbs soaking wet, so I think it's fair to say "small". Through she must have extra lungs hiding in her legs or something, because she can belt like nobody's business.

I love your analyses and way of doing reactions. I'm not a singer myself but I love hearing about the theory and technique. I've got an idea for another cover series for you, but it might be hard to find videos rather than album versions. Start with Frank Sinatra's song My Way and then look at how it has been covered in a variety of different styles: Nina Simone (soul), Shirley Bassey, Sid Vicious (punk), Andy Black (rock), Gypsy Kings (Latin), and André Rieu (violin). Another good song that everyone does in a different style is Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. That would give you the opportunity to look at more diverse groups like the Pentatonix and various national orchestras.

What an excellent rendition of Adelle's song! It's a great, softer version with a sweeter sound. However, after listening to I personally like Felix Irwan's version better. Both are excellent singers, but Felix's rendition is a bit more unusual.
