Is it grounded, Sir? Tesla almost always used a true ground for receiving strong signals. Otherwise, it was super tuned so that even lengths of contacts and leads were super resonant. But what most people don't realize is that current over air diminished at the standard dissipation rate that all energy waves do. So to get more power you need either more antenna wire or for it to be placed under or near a stronger source. Local true grounding helped with resonance, or actual current in some cases. The beauty of using microwaves as he did later, was that they could hold more energetic alternation at longer distances while more easily going through walls and trees. How did he transmit so much energy? Giant antenna towers and giant generators. Now, theoretically, one could use a resonant frequency with the ionosphere and the amplified signal would impart more energy to the signal than was sent out, thus stretching the range of the signal's workable distance. In my area I had gotten 14-15 volts DC. Is this stealing power? Yes. Are they stealing from us? Often. There is another way, that is legal, find a random, strong, signal not belonging to the power company and tap it. ELF frequencies can be powerful, but require very wide coils and or antennas. If I lived in Geneva, I would tune it to the super collider.
There is only so much power available in a radio wave. There is the whole square law thing. The best you can do is ensure you have a good antenna that is resonant on the frequency you are tuned in to

To me, 4.8V at 125 mA is impressive, I know it's only 0.6 watts, but that would power a gamboy color! Straight up, that kind of output can charge a smartphone over the course of a night if the phone is turned of while charging! Any way, I'm inspired, I'm parts shopping right now, haha
you should store those in a 1 or 2 farad supercapacitor and try parallel charging a series of 18650 batteries with good Ampere storage capability....see if it runs day and night!
I got 10 volts with a huge long wire antenna we put over trees on our farm. it was about 100 m long (300 ft) The other thing i used was a counterpoise instead of a ground rod. just laid on the ground.
@@tsbrownie no this was about 10 years ago but will describe it best i can......got a roll of old 0.5mm enameled wire and with the help of my nephews bow/arrow simply shot string/wire over about 5 big gum trees. the wire was simply laid onto the tops of the trees. got about 100m out at about 8 to 10 m high. then laid out approx 25-50m of counterpoise under the antenna just on top of the ground (enameled wire) this was my ground. the circuit was crude at best with a ferrite rod and enameled wire. we were high up on a hill too. good luck
Karl: I've seen ham radio operators out camping set up an antenna like you described. I think they used a sling shot instead of a bow, but it's the same idea. What did you use yours for? Radio or lighting a light or ???
It looks like you could power a joule thief with the power from the crystal radio. I have a schematic on my channel for a joule thief that only needs about 100 micro amps.
