I have Chiari (11mm) and syrinx (C2 to T12 :40 cm) and had decompression surgery (removed little bones back of my skull) 2 years ago. I am 99% perfect. I strongly recommend you surgery.

I was scheduled for a surgery to decompress a chiaris malformation in 2009 I was having siezures,passing out,losing left eye sight,and twitching. I chose not to have the surgery instead I started a regime of veganism,yoga,excercise,and nutrition supplementation. Ive learned that certain excercises (jogging)and stretches can improve my CSF flow and decrease symptoms. Before this I weighed 452lbs.,Just had an aortic root replacement,and a vitD deficiency. Now I weigh 175lbs.,havnt had a siezure in over 5 yrs.and im running 5-10 miles a day no more symptoms And no more Rx meds neccessary all my tests are normal Im glad it worked out well #TrustYourInstincts

Great 👍 presentation! What are the post operative chances of developing Arachnoiditis from intrathecal blood contamination? Now if the patient presents with Intracranial Hypertension, Chiari and Arachnoiditis, would you still consider surgical intervention?

Mine is 4.5 ml been suffering with absolutely unbearable headaches and left eye stabbing pain ,blurred vision , facial swelling , clumsiness , nausea ,blurred vision and Neurology said it is unlikely my headaches are caused by this condition and they disguised me with migraines ,while I was admitted to hospital on their service . I don't understand

What about if you have a aggressive hemangioma it’s on my L3 and it crack my bone and some is not pressing on my nerve root. I did have my crainecomy and laminecomy last April. The first few mth was good but now I’m in horrible pain everyday. And I’m on disability I need help understand what’s going on. I feel a lot of pressure and crushing like pain in my skull and it moves to my forehead and it feels like a heavy cloud is hovering over me and when I’m having this pain it’s in my upper back at the same time. My hair is starting to hurt my skull again to when I have a MRI I’m told the space is still good in the back of my head. But it feels like something is wrong. And this year I had a kyroplasty for the hemangioma but it doesn’t feel like it helped. They said the only thing that is left to do is rod and screw. I’m so tired of the pain idk what to do.

My doctor told me she had exhausted her resources trying to find me a neurosurgeon that was a few yrs ago! I was denied by those in my area my case was to complete ect . But it happened after a indecent at OHSU and them telling me I was mo longet a patient! No chiari specialists in Oregon! What does it mean when some headaches go down my neck and shoulders?

Pain down the neck and shoulders is often referred to as a "cape-like" distribution of pain. There's more information about this on our website about syringomyelia: bobbyjonescsf.org/physician-information/syringomyelia/

Curious what this doctor thinks of the filum theory in regards to chiari malformation 1 and syrix. If he believes chiari is due to a connective tissue disorder this validates this theory in my opinion. My son was diagnosed with chiari 1 and syrix. He is 13 and in no pain, but has weakness in his right arm/hand. Has anyone else heard of filum theory?

Did he seriously just say Chiari surgery is elective?
@GlazikAttack87
@GlazikAttack87 3 года назад
It's elective in the same way a tummy tuck is considered elective even if it's for Distasis recti instead of cosmetic reasons. Insurance companies deem surgeries that are not "medically necessary" as elective. When he says it's elective, he means as far as insurance companies are concerned.

It is selective you decide whether you want it you will not die without it
