CSX hits car in Fairport Ny

This happens last night on 1/17/2024
I heard that this happened on the virtual rail fan camera in Fairport New York and I wanted to go see myself I will round the video and it was crazy what it looks like is the car was trying to cut around another car I guess and it got stuck on the track and All of a sudden they maintenance truck of some kind came by to stop and help but but then a short time later a train was coming and luckily nobody was hurt or killed in this accident, which is amazing

I was watching this railcam when it happened. Scary when you realize that it's live and actually happening. Glad no one was injured.

Hopefully the car was abandoned. Remember folk, if you find yourself stuck on the tracks, call the phone number on the blue sign next to the crossing and they will stop all train traffic.

You can see the guy from the truck with the caution lights check the car and leave with people.

It's clearly not abandoned, you car see the driver hitting the brakes.

@@woods840 It was reported that the driver has no injuries. The immediate actions from a firefighter and another witness who were in the area jumped into action and saved the driver's life before the train hit.

I heard that thankfully their was a Fairport firefighter and another passer by who got the driver out before the train hit the car.

Seemed a little slow on dumping the air. They were a ways down the track with the car already.

The air dumping is when the brakes were applied. And that’s what he’s referring to-there was a long delay before they were even activated.

Yeah, I’m sure the engineer had applied some of the brake before the accident. You have to be careful about putting a train into emergency. Especially with today’s longer trains an emergency brake application can cause a derailment.

What you heard was not the Engineer dumping the air, it was a valve on one of the cars. The brakes were already on.

every time I see these, I have to tell people the train didn't hit the vehicle, the vehicle hit the train, trains don't stop on a dime, and people always ignore teainwarnings and signs..sigh......

He stalled before the gates went down, got his shit and abandoned the car and crossing in a timely manner and stood clear. I’d say that’s the reasonable thing for a person of reasonable intelligence to do. There’s a curve where that train is coming from so it wasn’t like he could see it coming or had any indication before the gates activated.

Clearly the car didn't "stall." The car is clearly off the road and stuck in the gauge of the rails. Also u can see the brake lights illuminating, indicating the driver is still in the car.

Don't know if that was the case here but often those who are "upside-down" on a vehicle loan and small chance of paying it off will look for an insurance claim to get out from under.

According to reports they're is another road called Railroad Road that lines the tracks. You can't see the road on camera since the storage building is in the way. His GPS was supposed to take him on that road but it mistakes it for the tracks.

Reports from the Fairport Fire Department and Fairport Police state that the driver was using a GPS to turn on a road called Railroad Road that lines the tracks. The storage building is in the way of the camera so you can't see it. The driver was okay. A firefighter and another witness were able to get him out of the car before the train hit.
