This little workhorse had just been begging for a scaled-down bush hog (brush hog? Rotary Cutter?) to supplement my other Cub Cadet with a belly mounted mower deck. We'll build one from scratch!
Some of the Tools used: (no affiliation or sponsorships)
Harbor Freight 20 Ton hydraulic press
Bridgeport mill Taiwanese clone
South Bend Lathe Heavy 10
Hobart Welder 210 MVP
SWAG off road finger press
Northern Tool air operated 20 ton jack
Langmuir Crossfire Pro CNC plasma table
Razorweld 45 plasma torch

Glad you shortened up those arms. I thought they were way long originally.
@tcraft1946
@tcraft1946 10 месяцев назад
You should make the second bend in the arms closer to the implement to shallow the angles you spoke about. Also to give more room for the lift cylinder or rods to connect

Frank we love you! My thought was to make a nice knurled knob for your press brake and you go putting on a hillbilly handle on the jack. Are you from Missouri it comes naturally to us. Keep it up we watch you every Friday

I don’t know if it matters much but if the pivot points for the bottom arms and the top link are different lengths the attachment won’t lift straight. Also I think it would be more of a challenge for you to build a flail style cutter than your standard rotary cutter. That being said I really enjoy your builds.
@mikewatson4644
@mikewatson4644 10 месяцев назад
A three point on a tractor doesn't lift straight. The back will raise faster than the front to give greater clearance the further from the tractor you go. I agree with a flail mower. It would give a better cut.

The upper turn buckle controllers the leveling of the bush hog. It can be adjusted.

I just bought a moores jig boring machine that has a moores taper hard to find tooling. I do have a jt2 adapter what can I buy to convert jacobs 2 taper to hold a collet chuck?

Absolutely love your attention to making things heavy duty and precise. Great video! Looking forward to watching this build. I am always taking notes and learning from videos like these to help better my own projects! Thank you!

I like to see how you would design and build a offset ditch mower been wanting one for a long time for a cub

just get a sickle bar. They made them for the Cubs.

Looking good. I would look into supporting the top link as close as possible. The pin needs to be strong enough to hold the entire weight of the implement. I have had to cut out so many bent top link pins in the 15 years of tractor & implement repairs.

I hope you're gonna make them arms thicker. They're gonna twist they should be at least three eighths of an inch

The light gauge was a prototype. He said they would be 3/8 or 1/2 in the video

@jimtaylor6979

you might consider putting the pins to the inside on a small unite it will change. Your bend geometry possibly work better for you

You may want to get hex head bolts for the foot boards also anti seize to put on the threads of all bolts Incase later you have to make some repairs or tweeks .

I actually have used stainless button socket (allen wrench) head screws to replace these on other tractors. I may have some left.

Not sure if i'm sold on the width of the plate steel to build it out of. I also realize it wont be that heavy you say but when turning left and right with the cutter on the ground and if the swiveling rear wheel hangs up on something them lower side arms look reel week and might bend, not sure just my thoughts on it.
@woodandmetalshoptime8048
@woodandmetalshoptime8048 10 месяцев назад
I said the lower arms will be 1/2 inch thick steel plate. These are just prototypes/mock ups.

Looking pretty good right now. Question for you, will the hitch mount block the access to the pins you put into the rod ends on the pivot?
@jerrysmith8796
@jerrysmith8796 10 месяцев назад
Hey Frank look’s great and bet it works great. You still need to put that small crank on the hydraulic jack for bending metal, take the valve out and the rubber seal off and weld a small crank out of 1/8”or 3/16” rod. Welding rod.

Would this Cub benefit from wheel spacers for stability going good so far 👍👍
@woodandmetalshoptime8048
@woodandmetalshoptime8048 10 месяцев назад
I will add wheel spacers to provide more room for the lift cylinders. Of course, some increased stability will also be realized.
@dodgeme1986truck
@dodgeme1986truck 10 месяцев назад
It could benefit from dual wheel adapters depending how wide the brush cutter is and if it will be run on any slopes or in less than ideal traction areas (soft ground or muddy soil) I've brush cut where the soil squeezed out through the tire lugs like toothpaste before (field didn't dry after a rain for weeks unless it was cut short).
@woodandmetalshoptime8048
@woodandmetalshoptime8048 10 месяцев назад
Duals will make the tractor too wide to fit through gates on the property and make storage a problem. The ags on the tractor should manage in most situations.
@dodgeme1986truck
@dodgeme1986truck 10 месяцев назад
@@woodandmetalshoptime8048I was just giving ideas for better stability and traction while brush cutting and rear mowing, I saw a video about removable duals and had a thought about narrow duals possibly fitting through the gates you can get extra traction running narrow duals over wide singles not to mention increased combined tire load capacity(also increases stability by reducing tire sidewall flex under load... And the idea for removable outer duals could be removed to get through gates and added when it's slick or muddy, or when used where you could be off camber such as ditch mowing.

Do you think you need front weight on the tractor?
@woodandmetalshoptime8048
@woodandmetalshoptime8048 10 месяцев назад
I might but the tractor weighs about 850 lbs by itself. The bush hog should weigh less than 200 lbs, so I don't expect it to be an issue. Using the rear axle as the fulcrum, the tractor has about 500 lbs forward of that point. So 200 lbs behind that point should be OK.
