Cub Cadet steering wheel zero turn review on the PRO Z 100 series model the PRO Z148 S EFI. This unit features the EFI electronic fuel injection Kohler powered twin cylinder engine. In this video I go over all the controls and operation of the machine. I test the zero turn on a very hilly terrain at a local cemetery. This commercial steering wheel zero turn handles the hills with ease.

Just the fact that you can hold that camera stick and still mow . I would have a beer in that hand and the steering wheel in the other

I. Saw this mower at the local Big R this evening and I liked it a lot. There was a difference though between the one you reviewed and the one I saw. The one I saw had a Kawasaki engine and the one you reviewed has a Kohler factory defect. I will never buy anything with a Kohler engine in it again. I used to think, “Kohler? I’m sure it’s as good as any other engine”, but a $2,000 engine swap later proved me wrong.

Nice and informative review. Looks like a very capable commercial machine . I own the residential 46" rzt-s cub-cadet . I have to be mindful of not making pivot spots in the lawn. On 1/2 acre. little over 15 min. with bagger, very nice results .

Good to know. I purchased a 154S a couple months ago. It replaced a riding mower of the same width and horsepower. Cut my mowing time in half. It's been great so far. I hope it's the last mower I ever buy! Only issue I've had is that the dealer threw a tube in the tire before selling it to me, which formed a hole and I had to replace (didn't even know about the tube until it went flat!). One thing I'd like is a more permanent pin to lock in the deck height. The one that comes with the unit relies on gravity to keep it "keyed", but over bumpy terrain, my pin falls out, allowing the deck to jump around. Invariably, I don't notice it for a few minutes and either have uncut grass or a scalped spot. Argh.

I was going to pull the trigger until I saw the reviews on the Koehler engine. Seems to be trouble with internal plastic and nylon parts as well as efi issues. Damn, it’s always something. I wish they had the Kawasaki with carburetor option. It may not be as fuel efficient but repairs would be much cheaper and less likely to have non metal gears/shaft blow apart internally. Have you had any trouble?

That's my first real good look at these. They look real good. Thanks for the review on it. It was quite thorough. Is there an adjustable baffle under the front of the deck? I see they went to the angled design on the leading edge.

Thank you for the very informative videos. No doubt I could use the Pro Z148S on our place but I have 3 important questions as follows: 1. Will it pull a lawn sweeper without harming the ZT3400 hydro's? I make a pass over leaves in the fall with my aging shaft drive Cub 2166 LT and use a 42" Craftsman sweeper to pick them up for mulch in flower beds. 2. Most important is the hydro drive belt replaceable by the homeowner without necessity of having to hoist machine onto a trailer & carry it back to the dealer? Inevitably the hydro belt is going to break on a weekend when the dealer is closed and if a spare belt is on hand (which I would have one) the machine could resume to operate once belt is replaced. I'm semi mechanically skilled but have not found any how to videos showing this operation. 3. How easily is the deck removed for blade sharpening/replacement? I'm 63 in fair health but heart condition limits my lifting & pulling abilities; I could probably the machine with a floor jack to do this but just curious.These are the 3 main concerns I have about purchasing this particular machine or any steering wheel ztr for that matter. Thanks, RP.

1. yes it will pull a lawn sweeper with no issues. 2. The hydro drive belts have been holding up well. I'm seeing machines with close to a 1000 hours on it that never had the hydro drive belt replaced. If the drive belt breaks just have the dealer fix it right. If you only go through one or two hydro drive belts its worth it to have the dealer fix it. 3. most people are jacking up the front end or driving the machine up on ramps to change blades and clean under the deck. The deck on this machine is very heavy and thats a good thing. You will need a powerful electric impact to remove the blades. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the prompt and informative response. That is comforting that it will be able to handle the sweeper, potential durability of the drive belt system and your info on requirements for blade servicing. I mow a little over 2 acres which is mostly open & flat but rough in a few places along with a long ditch bank on either side of our driveway next to a major highway. It takes me 3 hours to mow everything with my 42" LT not including the hour of trimming around flower beds, a few trees & chain link fenced backyard. The ztr is moving up on my very short list as the primary do-all yard machine. Thanks again, Rudy.

I have a lot of experience with the Cub Cadet steering wheel zero turn line up. Another good choice for 2 acres is the Zforce SX 48. There are several in the field that i have been watching that are close to the 1000 hour mark and holding up well in very rough conditions. The PRO Z will steer a little harder but will power through high grass and the ride will be easier on the back. Either one is a huge step up from the 42" LT.

@rudedawg5087 6 лет назад
One quick question; you had mentioned the SX 48 which I am considering can you tell me what the blade tip speed is for it. Cub lists the Z148S is @ 18500 fpm but they do not list the blade tip speed for the SX 48. Thanks again, Rudy.
@rudedawg5087
@rudedawg5087 6 лет назад
This is just an update on the Zforce SX48. I contacted Cub and they stated the blade tip speed is only 4000 fpm which is basically the same as my lawn tractor. The SX48 top speed is 7 mph so I would not really save that much time (maybe 30 minutes or so) or any better of a cut on our 2 acre open yard unless I moved up to the Pro Z148S with its higher bts & much faster ground speed. Thanks, RP.

looks like cub cadet is getting back in the game have they done better in there pumps?
@a-veteranlandscapesitework2413
I have questions. Some one told me that they bought two these and brought them back the next day because the lack of CV power steering wore them out
@TractorTread
@TractorTread 5 лет назад
The PROZ 148S Does not have power steering and due to the extra weight they are harder to steer. The PRO Z500 model is the next upgrade with the power steering but most people don't want to make the jump in price. The Zforce SX48 is close to the PROZ 148 and steers easy because its lighter and not made as heavy but still a very well built 3-4 acre mower. I spend a lot of time on all these machines and hope that helps answer your question..
@TractorTread
@TractorTread 5 лет назад
Let me also add because there is a noticeable difference in power and ground speed between the Zforce SX and the PRO Z100S some people will give up the easy steering for the extra power. The PROZ 100s has been popular with 5+ acre property owners, Cemeteries or very hilly properties that require a 48" cut on a heavy duty mower.

What's the advantage of the steering wheel vs lap bars?
@lilgordy90
@lilgordy90 4 года назад
Joey Vance lap bars aren’t stable on hills and they typically don’t hold a straight line. CC steering wheels are unique in that they not only steer the front wheel but control rear tire steering like a lap bar would.
