For those indicating that Saving Presets/Favorites is the answer to my issue, that does not solve the problem. If I only worked in my studio and my sessions only stayed in my studio, then yes, that is the way to deal with it. However I work in multiple studios on the same project and I also share projects with others from their studios that use different interfaces and different outboard gear. This is very common for some people, and very common in Pro Tools due to it being a dominating DAW in professional studios, where this happens all the time. The work around I show, will temporarily solve my issue, however, they need to implement this very basic feature that will make this a non issue for every type of workflow.
@AdamGotheridge
@AdamGotheridge Год назад
1. I'm pretty sure that if you turned on the ufx and reopened the project after closing and not saving the project, all your IO would be as it was saved in the project to begin with. 2. If you are brining the project to another studio and they probably have all different IO anyway so I'm not sure what would be gained here. 3. If the other studio happened to have the same ufx, I wonder if all the mapping would be as you had it. Just throwing out some thoughts around the subject.

@@AdamGotheridge I have to repatch my nuendo every time I go between on-the-go work and then being in my studio. It would be better if we could save our own IO profiles and load em. 2. The issue isn't that he has to create a new IO when he gets to the remote location. His issue is when he is back in his personal studio, he has to go through this video's entire process to make it work the way he set it up instead of being able to pull up a saved profile on his IO. 3. he isn't worried about the new place's hardware or interface, its that his previous stored settings from his proper studio get wiped and Nuendo/Cubase doesn't let him save what he spent hours setting up. Then has to burn 20 minutes every time he moves. I don't use nuendo when Im not at my main studio because its a huge waste of time to deal with when Protools or Studio One just lets me do whatever and patching takes a lot shorter time (especially since you can save the whole thing).

@@ProducerDudes I don't understand why don't you load your io profiles in the connections window between your home and on the go setups? Barry's work round would probably work well for the outboard gear as he has many. But the rest of the gear the saved presets are saved global and not on the project. So when the project comes back recall the io presets in the input, output and Control Room sections of the connections window. The issues is the external inserts need to be created as favorites and added one by one. There is no need to individually re assign the inputs and outputs as Barry has do if the presets and favorites were saved in the connections window. When the project goes out to another Nuendo suit the io is done once for the change between each studio and recalled in the connections window for the inputs outputs and Control Room of that suit. This saves much time adjusting each project each time it is in a different suit. I agree the connections panel needs an update to save the other tabs as presets instead of favorites but presets are available and work for 90% of these applications between Nuendo audio suits like your situation of studio to laptop and back. I enjoy the flexibility if recalling inputs separately as input configurations may change depending on the situation and outputs and ControlRoom may not. I hope this helps make your life simpler.
@facelessproduction

I don't really understand why you experience this issues? Non exciting if you take your time setup everything up right first. 1. All projects should automatically store all I/O configuration inside the project-file. After re opening the project, the I/O configuration should come back exactly the same setup as when you last saved it. 2. Use the Control room feature 3. You can save all I/O setups as presets if you want. 4. You can save also external hardware inserts. That's called "Favorites" in the configuration menu. Hope it helps! 👍🏻 Best Regards Freddie

@@facelessproduction So I think I found the issue I've had? I made a "preset" in control room for the control room stuff and when I went to Inputs a box that said presets was then present. Never seen it before and I've had days where my goal was to get everything put together and good to go. So maybe the control room thing did it. I never used control room because its never been in my workflow and I've never felt the need for it. Either way, thanks for your list of things to try!

Barry, Greg said you can save each external FX as a favorite. I tried it myself and it works. You just have to load each outboard gear piece as shown under the favorites after you set it up. I will still post the link on this video when the time stamps from the Cubase live stream is posted so you can see what exactly Greg said.
@julesc8054
@julesc8054 Год назад
Hi Barry You can save presets in the connections window for inputs, outputs, and the control room. The FX busses and External Inserts have favorites to recall per FX buss or per individual external inserts. I think the way they expanded the panel to accommodate the highly requested feature in N3 way back in 2003 made sense. At that time everyone was moving to in the box but still had outboard gear. I don't remember any changes to the connections panel since Nuendo 3. It's had a face-lift now but the panel well may need some love like the export panel received. In Case Of Emergencies: Copy entire Nuendo settings folder to a backup drive and the desktop with the date in the folder name. You will thank me some day.

Great! This happens to Cubase in my sessions, too. Whenever I launch Cubase with a different soundcard it just resets all Inputs and Outputs. For me, as I use a stationary DAW and a mobile DAW on the go, it is very annoying...why would Cubase/Nuendo not just remember all different soundcards I use??? So when its the SSL 12 it should map INS and OUTS as I had used it before...same to my RME Hammerfall9632...just restore previous settings automaticly, please! But a HUGE thank you, for the tip with the "External PlugIns.xml" file. It is definately a more convinient way to get things going again. THX!!

I do no know what the problem is with your interface not being selected automatically, as I only use one. But for the audio connections you do not need a workaround. In Audio Connections menu set your input, output and control room settings, then in each of those sections you can save the settings as a new preset and if you want set Cubase to open them as the default preset. My settings never disappear and I save a second copy of those preset files on a separate drive in case there was ever an issue.

You completely missed the point. I think everyone knows about having templates with various routing, I use them all the time. Those don’t help you if you have issues nor do they help if you start a session in one studio and move to another with completely different I/O and interfaces. I do this “all” the time. When I searched for a solution to import/export IO settings I found hundreds of different threads/complaints. Remember everyone else may not have the same workload/needs as you. Regardless, the ability to export/import IO is a critical feature that every other DAW I have used has had for a very long time. As much as I hate to say it, Pro Tools has implemented this the best.

Hey Barry! Love your channel and the new wood working channel! I wonder if this may be a Fireface issue or a bug in the external FX portion of Cubase? I've used Cubase (on PC) for the last 10 years and I've never once had this happen. I've only used Focusrite products and currently using Antelope audio. The I/Os have never reset, and it's never gone back to the default system audio. I also wonder if it has something to do with mac trying to make Cubase default to the built-in drivers in the Mac and when it does Cubase forget everything. They should still allow you to save the I/O config. Sorry you're having this issue and hopefully it gets resolved because that would drive me insane.

Hi Barry, Long time Nuendo/Cubase user here (Nuendo Since v1). I'm on Mac (MacBook Pro M1 Pro) and using the latest OS and Nuendo. I'm Using the UFX+ interface in my studio. I don't get any of your "intermittent" issues with losing connections randomly over time. To me it' sounds like that there is something not quite right in your particular setup. BUT, that said. Connections in cubendo, however flexible they are can be a bit finicky. I switch interfaces on locations regularly and that can get messy. I'd rather have Nuendo not even trying to resolve connections in a new interface if it would mean that I get my connections back when I go back to the first interface again. A global in/out setup would help too. BUT as of now you run the risk of breaking the project routing if you reload busses. Best regards Johannes

I'm able to get back my externals since they're saved as favorites, but they always get disconnected and I have to reconfigure them. I have a PNG on my desktop with the routing. This is my ONLY Cubase complaint. I never have any other issues, and I'm even running it on an old gaming Dell with only 12 free gigs on the C drive.

Dude I just tried Cubase for the first time today and maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I could NOT get the DAW to allow me to track vocals through plugins without latency. Tried every ASIO Driver I have, every buffer setting, searched for tutorials, couldn't find any simple answers. Further proving to me that REAPER is the PEOPLES DAW. ZERO latency issues with reaper. I can load an entire vocal chain on to a track and record right into it with NO latency without having to do anything special. WAS SO excited to try Cubase too. I also think the GUI on Cubase looks dated and shitty, but that would've been endearing if something SO simple just worked, like how things JUST work in Reaper or Mac.
@BarryJohns
@BarryJohns 28 дней назад
Never had any problems with latency whatsoever, and it’s pretty unusual for a DAW to introduce latency. That’s typically tied to your recording interface. That said, use what you feel most comfortable with. I’ll be the first person to say the QA is a beast to learn, that said, after getting over the hump and learning it, I wouldn’t use any other DAW. And I own them all.

I am a Nuendo/Cubase user from the times of Nuendo 1 I work at the same time normally between several steinberg equipped estudios in my area , some of them with really big inputs and outputs connected to a big analog console , and never in my life I had such a problem Well clearly I use presets for my inputs and outputs , my control room preferences , my own keyboard shortcuts , my own colours with names that I use from the Nuendo 1 ,etc,etc,etc.... The best part of Cubase Nuendo is that you can travel with all your preferences When you go to a new place do a preset for that place and when you come back to work at that place use that preset , you can buck up that preset in case some one else do something wrong and clear your presets In that way when you travel from one studio to another you travel with your own Nuendo configuration So easy as that Another recommendation , use the control Room in Nuendo is one of the best functions ever in a DAW And for sure Cubase is the best DAW Now to do live recordings with all the band playing together in a big studio if you use a Windows computer , an interface with direct monitoring ( RME, Steinberg, etc ..) The most stable , latency free and unobtrusive DAW ever for this kind of work and the only one I used in my live ( and I used a lot ) that it is posible to do a last time multitrack recording ( drums, orchestra,etc....) with hundreds of plugins inserted ,in more that one hundred tracks with no latency 🤷‍♂️ You are trying to do something in a new tool but in the same way (in my experience pro tools way to handle inputs and outputs is horrible ) you did it in your old but familiar tool

Same thing on windows. Luckily I don't do this for a living and I don't have the list of hardware you have. But this is a huge joke. If they have not fixed it yet then they need to rebuild the whole program from the ground up.

It's hard to understand why you didn't simply use connection presets to re-establish your connections. Or even simpler, just restart Cubase and reload the project with the UFX connected. Either way, you would have quickly solved the problem. In another studio, with different outboard gear, those connections wouldn't be relevant anyway, so your objection to presets doesn't make sense.

Take a look at my pinned comment at the very top of the comments. That alone is not solve my problem.

@@BarryJohns I understand your pinned comment, but as I said above, if another studio has different outboard gear, your i/o connections will be irrelevant, so the i/o topology you used in your studio will be totally useless to the person you are sharing your project with. That still doesn't answer why you didn't use presets or simply restart Cubase in your video, which presumably was filmed in your studio.

@@greenoakcrystal I do this all the time, what I had been doing when going to other studios was printing stems and importing using their template/presets. You reaffirmed the main point of the video. If Cubase had the ability, like the majority of others, to be able to export and import IO, this would never be an issue, just like it was never an issue when I was using ProTools HDX.

Ok this is very strange. I work with MAC OS and Windows systems with RME cards and I never had this problem. edit: I'm on Cubase 12 Pro

😂😂😂😂 you’re headed down the rabbit hole back to Pro Tools 😅😅😅. It’s these little nuances that on the grand scale keep PT at the top. If someone is tracking an orchestra today and a singer singer winter and and band immediately after tomorrow I/o setup recall is essential!
@BarryJohns
@BarryJohns Год назад
I will never go back, but to your point, for the few that do what you referenced, PT is the best solution.

I want to complain that in 2023 you still use 1080p 😄Seen the GUI crushed to that tiny screen is a crime in 2023. 😁 I only get a disconnect if I change interface or Sometimes people will start Cubase first with their interface off and they get no sound after turning the audio interface... You need to have it on before you start Nuendo or Cubase. MADI? mmmmmh! No thank you. I rather patch all of that every time than be messing my music in Pro Tools. You know, back in the days, patching those patch-bays to gear, etc, was the norm. We are getting too lazy my friend. Send this request to Greg. WELCOME TO THE STEINBERG FAMILY.

I hate Avid and their prices but this is another reason I like Pro Tools. There is almost nothing Pro Tools does not do. The Eucon IPad App is a game changer and IMO is light years ahead of the competition.

I’ve come to the conclusion, these programs are written by pre-pubescent teens, who have a thing against older generations, and create the most difficult pathways to accomplish, what should otherwise be a simple task!!

Yea, I don’t know what I was thinking. The mic is not meant to be that close to my mouth. It’s usually about 10” away pointing down overhead, I put it too close. I did make the video at 5am if that’s any excuse😜

Yeah Cubase sometimes can be a POS but I just cringe at the idea of trying out a new DAW. If Pro Tools did not have the business model that they have I would have considered them. Steingberg needs to invest more in Cubase to make things easier and just WORK. I cannot count the times I have lost my creative flow and said screw it because of issues with cubase.

Ef cuebase i spent good money for cuebase 13 and i wish i could get a refund. Its the most annoying program ever. In my opinion its not worth it for real musicians playing real instruments, but if you are one of those people who just want to make beats with no music theory knowledge then yeah cuebase is for you, it does all the music for you. I hate cuebase for making thier program so useless.
