I never heard of this game until Tom showed it on Board Game Breakfast in his "What's on the Shelf" segment. So I had to watch the review. I am not much of a fan of flicking games or dexterity games, but on the verge of liking some (I do like Pony Express). This almost interests me, it is unique. I won't ever buy it, but I would play it.
This definitely reminds me of Weapons and Warriors. Man I miss that game. It was a fun, thematic, and (controlled) destructive dexterity game, and Cube Quest looks to fill those roles as well.
It's a fun game and we enjoy it. Most games take longer to setup than to play, but it's fun. Note that the play-mats do come in a box, folded up. They have creases that only came out with months of time stored in a tube and after repeated applications of a iron. But the game being what it is, you can't get to picky about bumps in the playing area. It's also priced in the under $30 price range. I agree with Vasel - it's a fun, diversionary game.
It does take longer to setup than play most of the time. Not sure if it is a rule or we just started to do it, but we use the box as a screen so each player can secretly setup thier side of the board, then we do a "reveal" which everyone always seems to get a kick out of. We also had the same problem with the boards, I wrote Gamewright and they were awesome and sent me replacements (I just wish the box was bigger to store the boards flat).
The most annoying aspect of this product is the mats are folded in the box and the even after resting on a flat surface for over a year, there is still uneven bump on the mats! They should roll the mats in the box.
+will5538 The new version of the game has the mat split into 3 pieces and rolled up instead of being folded. If you call/message the manufacturer, they will often send you a set of the new maps for free.
+Trueflight Silverwing Thanks for the tip! Do you have their contact info at hand? I looked online and only found the publisher is Gamewright, are they the right people to contact for new mats?
Sorry will5538 I accidently reported your comment as abuse. Honest it was a genuine mistake, I was trying to reply with the good news that the new version of Cube Quest / (and Rumms too) do come with mats rolled up in the box. Also, Gamewright Games will replace your old creased mats with new flat ones.
