Should this WR average be disqualified? 🤔
@andrewcuber8968
@andrewcuber8968 2 месяца назад
even if people wanted it to be disqualified (which many people do), it cant be. this has happened too many times in the past to randomly change the rule at this moment.
@Speedcubenz
@Speedcubenz 2 месяца назад
I mean technically they wouldn't be changing any rule, as you're not meant to be touching the cube when you start solving, right?
@TheOnlyBigDog
@TheOnlyBigDog 2 месяца назад
@@Speedcubenz Exactly, it's pretty much the same situation as the 19 FMC mean. Rules were broken, it was found out that they were broken, and the person was banned/disqualified.
@andrewcuber8968
@andrewcuber8968 2 месяца назад
@@Speedcubenz of course, but there have been similar situations, like the Russian national record 2x2 single by Ekaterina Kaneva. if officials decide to remove Yiheng's record, one could argue that they should go back and video-review every record. surely this will only cause more confusion and debate.

Why don't we just use 4-pad mode like the speed stackers do?
@cookiecuber1
@cookiecuber1 2 месяца назад
Then that will basically make all the previous records not stand as they wouldn't have been able to use 4 pad mode.Also not all comps have gen 5 timers so then what would you do?
@Speedcubenz
@Speedcubenz 2 месяца назад
There's not really a good argument against it as far as I can see, and as Kit and James said later in the video, we don't have the same problem of egregious "cheating" or misuse like the stackers did.

i think that having people who framecount solves would be useful, but it should be different than normal judging, especially on punishment as one of the delegates mentioned at the end, its very hard to have a perfect timer start, so the harshest punishment for when it comes down to that should be counting the framecounted time

Gave this some thought after the stream: if a version of the mirror cube could result in better times… then we should be allowing the hardware to evolve to create the fastest solve possible! To think: it’s seen as a problem if some cubes are faster than others instead of embracing the evolution of hardware to create a better, more competitive environment. Also, the argument that mirror cube isn’t unique enough for the WCA… what is the goal of the WCA? Because if it’s only for Cubers, by Cubers… then don’t expect our sport to grow. If the goal is to improve, increase the community, bring more people’s eyes to what we do, then turning down events like mirror cube is defeating that purpose.
@Speedcubenz
@Speedcubenz 2 месяца назад
I hear what you’re saying! I guess in this case though there needs to be an element of standardisation from the manufacturers? Mirror cubes can vary dramatically I think depending on the angles of offset? Idk I’m not an expert 😂 It definitely feels like mirror is currently in the “too hard basket” though lol
@WTF-Cubing
@WTF-Cubing 2 месяца назад
@@Speedcubenz I’m of the opinion if one manufacturer makes a faster puzzle, then it just incentivizes innovation in design. Let them all be legal, and the best design wins. As long as every piece is a different size and shape.
@EddtheRexMan
@EddtheRexMan 2 месяца назад
I guess the uniqueness argument is more than we already have 3x3 (twice if you count one handed), so what's the point of adding it again? To be clear, I don't have anything against mirror blocks, personally, but it is literally just a slower 3x3. Beyond that, it's hard to tell if a scramble is correct, and even harder to judge a +2. I actually think the fix for the +2 issue is to just have DNFs just like clock

Ok, this feels un-needed, I'm young and a new cuber, but can't the WCA just ban timer slides? I feel the need for video refs is too much. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@EddtheRexMan
@EddtheRexMan 2 месяца назад
Timer slides are already illegal, the problem is they're really hard to see in real time so judges don't often penalise them.
@RyCubes
@RyCubes 2 месяца назад
@@EddtheRexMan Alright, thanks for the context, what I know is that you can't have the cube touching your hands before the timer starts, I saw no regs about slides specifically, so thanks.

@RyCubes 2 месяца назад
@@EddtheRexMan More to what my other reply was, Timer slides do fit under the reg stating you can't touch the cube before the timer starts.
@EddtheRexMan
@EddtheRexMan 2 месяца назад
@@RyCubes yeah, so I guess if you somehow slide your hands forward and then lifted them fully off the timer and then picked up the cube, it would be legal I just don't think anyone would ever try to pull that off instead of a standard start. The reason slide starts are bad is because you can start the solve before the time, and if you did a sliding start like I described above, then you wouldn't have a faster time because you're not touching the cube and the timer simultaneously 👍

@@skwebjacob fair point, i guess the equipment provided by the wca (on the suggestion one of the guys said) would most likely get the footage needed though so they wouldnt have the option of not recording their solves, which they would of course need to agree with cause otherwise the wca wouldnt have their consent
