I am a maintenance electrician working on electrical repairs in irrigation pivos and pumps in southeastern Brazil; therefore I am not a farmer but I love to see all this and I thank for sharing with the world this wonderful work
Fabulous video! I've watched dairy, beef, cotton, soybean, corn, & wheat farming channels. I never thought to watch cucumber harvesting, until this video showed up in the recommended video section!
Very interesting video! It's so amazing the quality of drone videos and how it can take us so close to the action and still not be in anyone's way. That roll-by shot starting at 7:45 is more steady than my camera on my tripod without me even touching it!
The Vogel is about double the size of the Blackwelder Cucumber Harvester that I operated in the same fields 50 years ago for Libby. Replaced most of the migrant labor. Same fields, same Crop (but now all cucumbers ripen at the same time) just new machines. My how life around Almond has changed in the past half century. I must be getting old.
My fav is Vlasic pickles and these machines remind me of a John Deere 9870 STS that's been completely torn apart and rebuilt for this type of work, really neat to watch!!.
THANK YOU for turning off the music. When I realized that, I turned my sound back on, and listened happily to the music of the machines! great drone work, outstanding vid.
So much easier then when we use to pitch them.I thought they said the immgrants picked them.Farm life is so rewarding. I remember as a kid wanting to leave the farm. Now that I'm older I dream about going back to the farm.
We do not have low crop cucumbers in Belgium, it's actually first time I've ever seen these. We have cucumber farms under glass here and they are grown on guides overhead.
Very interesting, never seen a cucumber combine before. Are those machines digging the plant or are they just cutting off the plant at the surface ? If it is just cutting plant off at the surface, will the plant grow back for another harvest or would it have to be replanted for another harvest in another season? What do you do with the trash left in the field ?
I have seen so many kinds of videos of fruit n vegetable harvest...tonnes n tonnes of food produced through out the world n still hunger exists in today's world...
non-farmer here; just curious, is the harvesting equipment owned by the farmer or rented at harvest time? is the equipment for cucumber only or can they be set up up to harvest other crops? thanks.
GOD BLESS all the American farmers our foood should be the cheapest in the world.but because of big money and power we suffer. I love farmers.God bless everyone.
I used to pick gerkins by hand with 4 people on a creeper. The gerkins keep on coming back. The harvest just keeps on going. The patch I worked on was only 1/4 acre. These are huge fields. It was not easy fighting the horseflys and the hot sun. This type of harvest gets many sizes of cucumbers. Sorting happens at the canning plants. At the end of the day, the harvesters get their cut and the price fluctuates daily during harvest. I wonder if Rent a Rabbi has to bless the harvesting equipment for Kosher Dills?
Cucumbers can be determinate - grow, bloom, set fruit and mature all at the same time, or indeterminate - grow, bloom, set fruit & mature continually throughout the growing season.
@@camillea6701 - We plant 40 acres all harvested by manual labour ... We get about 10X the yield one will have with this equipment . Waste of time, seeds, land attribution and ecological mess that goees with it . Our ecological print is dozens of times less than this machine will allow . Good day and ... If one day a different machine is developped ... Well we are always open to good ideas ... This is not , In my opinion, a decent one ... Not even close . Later
you work very hard and you harvest the labor of your works, keep up the good work and perseverance! And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
