CUCUMBER HARVEST | PIK-RITE 3000 

When we were kids we had an acre patch. We'd pick all day. When my dad got home from work we loaded them up and take them to the pickle station. We used the money to buy school clothes and supplies. And some was spent at the Worlds Fair in Rosholt on Labor day weekend. FYI that's in central Wisconsin too

Thanks for showing Mount Olive pickles. I was born and raised here in Mount Olive NC where Mount Olive pickles was born. We grow alot of cucumbers in this area. The pickle plant also gets cucumbers from Georgia and Florida.

A neighbor used to grow cukes. I don't recall what he did for harvest, but he hired lots of teenagers for sorting them. My grandmother retired from the local 'pickle factory.' Great video, it's interesting to see other crops besides grain getting harvested.

Pik-Rite, made in Lewisburg Pa. about a mile from my home. Always cool to drive by and see a new harvester sitting out. More common to see manure spreaders, water trucks, and dump trucks in their lot.

Have you ever thought about filming self propelled tomato harvesters for processing tomatoes? They are in full swing in California right now.

My granddad and his neighbors did row cropping near Newton Grove NC. I remember that my friends at my grandparents helping with pepper and cucumber harvest. the crops went to Mt. Olive as i recall. I recall that is was a manual operation as well....

Very interesting that there is a machine which is able to harvest these. In Germany, this is still done by hand using a, directly transleated, "cucumber flyer. "

Cool video! I live about 10 miles from Pik Rite's factory and have actually been in their facility before. They build some very nice machinery for vegetable harvesting and also equipment for the gas industry like vac trucks and dump beds for municipal trucks as well. A local company from my town Furmano foods use Pik Rite equipment for their tomato harvesters.

My brother-in-law used to raise pickles in the sixties and seventiespeople used to pick them by hand put them in gunny sacks take them to the Heinz pickle receiving station in Windsor Colorado has kids would play out on the pickle dock and reach in the tanks and take pickles out and eat them after about two or three months they tasted good osha and the health department would have a conniption fit todaykids playing on the dock and reaching in the vats and taking pickles and eating them they were about thousand gallon batch made out of two by sixes like big pickle barrels

I just wanted to let u know that Lewisburg pa is 30 mins away from where I lived I have been by where they maded them it nice to see a machine made in pa being use that far away we grew cumbuer in ur garden

I've only seen fields like that harvested by hand. Workers picking cucumbers, cabbage, lettuce, carrots and beets. Much smaller fields around me in Kansas and near the river.

There is a very short window to harvest cucumbers for pickles due to their size. One day more of growth can make them too big.

We had a neighbor that raised cucumbers for pickles and my grandpa, would go out and pick up cucumbers that didn't make it into the truck.

Ran 3 of these pik rites in the early 00's. The only thing they were good for were to pick up every stone in a field and to be cannibalize to make a Ikes welding self propelled harvester. Operators hated running them.

Pretty cool.how far is the processing plant from the field?fo they store and cool the crop before trucking or do they send them right away?

We cultivate red and white cabbage! And celeriac!

Case IH made by someone else? I wonder if it is real specialized? There must be a reason. I also bet planning with some ready a lot different time than others. Or they pick early. Darn when I pick them i go back second day and wonder was I blind. Finding some the second day. This handles that problem. Always thank you for your good job real linteresting !

How does the machine get the cucumbers off of the vine a break down on the machine would be nice so we would know how it works was it a big harvest didn’t look like a lot was coming in

All of the cucumbers here are picked by hand. They only accept a certain size cucumber.

What is a good yield for cucumbers

Seems like you are wasting a potential of a lot cucumbers because the vines would keep producing. I guess to hard to do it otherwise
