Think the curls would have looked amazing in the top clear portion
@ThePorrustyFox
@ThePorrustyFox 8 лет назад
I think the curls could have also been a darker shade of green, or even clear. It would have made for a great contrast, and kind of a rounding detail to the clear in the top, I think white curls might have gone lost in the green as well, because of the pastel quality of the soap, but the overall design, great as always!
@Roxy222uk
@Roxy222uk 5 лет назад
I was thinking a nice dark green too.

For the curls, you should try putting the bright green in a clear base. Make them pop.

Whats the formulanto know how much oil. Like you said 30ml of melt and pour at 3% fragance oil so how much oz would that be?
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 3 года назад
So you take the total weight 1000 grams and divide it by 100 times 3 = 30grams 1000 grams = 35.274 oz 30 grams = 1.058 oz

I recently tried to make a soap with two layers and it was completely separated...and I don't mean a line I mean it completely separated (LOL) how can I avoid this? I was trying not to pour the second layer too hot so I did it after it cooled below 125f but maybe it wasn't hot enough? Or maybe the first layer was too dry? I dont know. Please help Dean!

The fragrance I used was Eucalyptus-Mint and I left the curls white. Also, I used an olive oil clear M/P on the top, which gave a greenish tint. This is my most popular soap ever. Thank you for the inspiration! Love your videos.

Is it okay to use food coloring instead of liquid dye? And is it okay to use melt and pour glycerin soap as the base?
@DeanWilson

+Maggie May Santos I would not suggest using food coloring for soap making. Mica or liquid dye would be best. Yes, glycerin base is fine to use, this was the clear on top.

Looks great Dean, love the green, really lovely. If you don't mind me asking .....I bought the same crystal clear from ASS recently and found it had a very strong smell and have been to scared to purchase more of the same from them so am waiting for NCS to supply more. Did you find the same problem regarding the strong smell??? Or perhaps I got a bad batch, still apprehensive to order it from them again especially when I like to do a large order. Thank you again for your great tutorials.
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 8 лет назад
+Annamaree Canino I didn't notice any smell, just soapy like my normal Clear base. I wish NCS has crystal clear again but Extra clear is also very good from AussieSoapSupplies.

Thanks Dean, I must have had a bad batch as it was really a very strong overpouring smell. I think NCS should be getting more of their crystal clear in mid April so will definately look out for it. Thanks again for such a great job you do sharing your tutorials and for being so honest with all your work. Love it!!!!

A darker green clear imbed curl would be nice and balance the top clear portion with the bottom. It would be nice to have that contrast popping out of the base. But that's just my opinion, it still looks fantastic Dean

If you use it to shower everyday, about 2 weeks per bar (100grams). However it might last longer depending on what base you use and if it sites in water (which will make it soft).

@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 8 лет назад
+shahnawaz ahmed Most of Melt and Pour soap bases are very moisturizing. They will sweet and tiny bubbles will form on and around the soap when there is water in the air. Specially a bathroom/shower area. This cant be fixed. If you look at Cold Process (CP) soap your see that all the moisture has gone hence no sweeting. I can't make any more videos for a while due to my operation. I should be back in a few months.

I am an HP soaper, but, my sister bought me a lot of melt and pour base from Brambleberry. I am watching your videos to see how to do it. My question is this, do you Superfat your soaps, or is that all added into the soap base? Thank You
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 8 лет назад
I have never heard of Superfat before today, I think that might have to do with CP soap? The bases I buy come pre-made so I don't need to add anything other then dye and fragrance. Just melt the base down, add dye, FO/EO and pour.
@lonniekeelan94
@lonniekeelan94 8 лет назад
Thank You so much for replying so quickly. Super Fats are the extra oils that you put into your soap after it has cooked. These are the oils you want to stay on the skin to nurture it. When we make soap in the Hot Process method, these oils are added after the cook in order to assure that they are not attacked by your lye and turned into soap. Pure soap is very drying on your skin, and that is why we always add super Fats, ( SFs). But, I see now that all of that is already in your M&P soap. So thank You again for answering my question. I love your videos, and have learned a lot from them.

Loved this, so tried to make my own but when I tried to cut my loaf the next day, my layers came apart sadly. Any advice? I sprayed each layer before pouring the next - the only thing I can think is that the temperatures were wrong - too cool perhaps? I don't have a thermometer, so was guessing...
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 5 лет назад
Yes, the soap base needs to be warm to the touch in order for it to bond together. The rubbing alcohol will act as a bonding agent for the layers. However even I get it wrong and they came apart for me too.

Looks great! I have a question on melting soapbase. How long can a melt and pour soapbase stay melted when you take the soapbase out from the double boiler? From the youtube videos, seems like your soapbase stays melted for a longtime. When I do my melt and pour, it gets hard as soon as I take out of the double boiler. I believe I am following the rules correctly.
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 7 лет назад
My pouring pots keep the base warm so it stay fluid a lot longer. Normally when I take the pouring pot out of the crock pot its at about 140F degree. So I have tons of time to play and wait for it to cool.
@hollymarie3433
@hollymarie3433 6 лет назад
How long do you wait for the layers of soap to cool before pouring your additional layers? For example, you poured your green soap base; how long did you wait to pour the white soap base on top? Do you have to wait overnight? A few hours?
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 6 лет назад
It will depend on the base and how much for that layer. Example. Like in this video I used a lot for the green base. So it will take longer to set then say half as much. I would come back every 10 minutes and just touch the top and see if it has a skin, you want a solid skin where you will not have any soap on your finger when you pull it away but tough enough so the next layer will not melt thought it. Its a real trial and error process.
@khurafatikhan2241
@khurafatikhan2241 7 лет назад
Hi Dean, At what temp do u you pour the second layer and what is the temp of first layer at that time?. I tried but am having trouble with binding the layers...
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 7 лет назад
If you have embeds in the layer you need to be under 130f degree (54.4c) otherwise it will melt the embed. The other layers should be around that temp too otherwise they melt the layer below it. Just remember to spray rubbing alcohol to make the layers bond.

@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 8 лет назад
Titanium Dioxide is white dye. You can get white pigment dye too but I prefer Titanium dioxide. It takes a while to get the right timing and amounts. It took me many months to get swirls right and even now I get it wrong every now and then. Just keep going and righting everything down - that way you can keep track if it works.

great video Deano I bet the soap smells wonderful I was thinking maybe the curls could have been a little darker green to make you think about the green skin on the Cucumber
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 8 лет назад
+Coleen Taylor Yes, it should have been white, clear or darker green.

Hii water soluble or water based extract can be used in melt n pour soaps or not
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson Год назад
No, i would not suggest that. Anything liquid you add will not turn into soap.

@@DeanWilson i am in lot of confusion .. many says yes with Max 2% and many other hand says no
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson Год назад
@@arinaazarena570 If you add any liquid like oils or butters, it will not be mixed it. The saponification process has already turned the oils into soap. So by adding more oils or liquids it will just stay as such inside the soap. Making it greasy.

Hey Dean! Love your videos - I was wondering why you use a knife to cut your loaves rather than a wire soap cutter? Is it personal preference or do you find your soap cuts better that way? (always been curious).
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 7 лет назад
I have been told the wire cutter is not strong enough to cut throw the melt and pour soap. Its really only used for soft soap like CP.

Nice to see you wearing gloves. So many people sell soaps and handle them. Bacteria got into soap bars that I purchased before I could cut n do anything with them. The seller wouldn't take them back. Your videos are great. Rubbing alcohol on everything. fab fab fab. Number one fan watching your vids to learn as much as I can before I start.

Thank You! When I first started making videos I was only using the soaps for myself and was not wearing gloves, however I washed my hands very well before making soaps then. When I started selling, I started using gloves.

Your videos are by far the most inspiring and professional I have seen. I have seen many many videos. So many amazing ideas out there. I am wondering the best size of loaf style container to purchase. Any info is much appreciated. Keep up the awesome passion you have and thanks for sharing your creativity.

What's the shelf life for a Melt & Pour soap??
@DeanWilson

Without a fragrance I would say 2 years, but 1 year with a fragrance. That is just my thought.

@@DeanWilson Thank U! Can i add a little #Cocoa Powder to M&P????? I want to make a #ChocolateBar soap Thanks in advance!
@DeanWilson
@DeanWilson 5 лет назад
I have never tried that. It works fine in Cold Process soap but not sure it will set correctly in M&P as it's already made soap.
