I don't know russian tables, but i guess so.. but the thing is that here in brazil pool is not a professional sport, so from city to city our tables change a bit. But we have a lot of good pool players here, search for "baianinho de maua" and you will see!!! Ahha

Today was the day DrDave, it has finally happened! After 10 months of playing 3 hours a week on monday I broke the rack, and cleared the table from there. I came close a couple of times before but today it got official, I ran my very first rack :D Your videos have been instrumental in this, without them this moment wouldn't have happened. @@Nonyas12 dude just try to not think about it as running the rack just as a couple of shot rather I'm pretty sure you would have got up to 6 or 7 pots many many times when you try to hard to do something it makes it harder that's what I think anyway. Tell yourself this is easy the pockets are huge I can do this without position imagine how easy with positioning. Find yourself a snooker table go play for a month and come back and run 5 racks in a night I promise

Wow best video to understand stun draw and follow . A draw can easily become a stun which would confuse me . Timing is key here to get the slide for a stun or a backwards rotation for a draw so they follow the expected angles . Thank you so much
To all my fellow rookies. THIS is what we need to master to get better. The high skill level people I see ALWAYS put themselves in position for a easy next shot. Meanwhile, rookies like myself are having to make monster shots and can't string a few shots in a row.

@@DrDaveBilliards i got really good watching ur video i ran a table of 9 ball just using the tangent line as a reference line i almost understood the 30 degree rule follow cut shot i didnt know same shot different cue ball position for the follow it actually change the cue ball deflection unlike the stun it never changes for a long time i was wondering and searching to find answer and u pretty much just answer all my question u even talk about the physic of the ball this is an all u need to know video im very happy

The most difficult aspect of cue ball control is judging where it will go after hitting a cushion. And knowing exactly how hard to hit it. Cue ball speed is very important.

This actually turned out to be a better video than I expected! As a much better than average pool player myself, I even learned a couple things, more on some of the physics aspects, like why the ball slides off the tangent line, instead of drawing more consistently, for instance.
this is incredible,i really dont understand how draw shoot send the cue ball if it is not actually a straight draw shot i really amazed about how speed affect so much when it comes to draw shot and how i can'r understand it and that's why i never use draw shot

This is what I love about your videos, Dr. Dave: I simply didn’t notice one needs draw on slow speed stun shots. I’ve recently begun using a lot of stun since it’s easier to calculate a leave going through the center of a table than using two or three rails (also learned from your videos), but I’ve been getting out of line because of some speed problems. I can’t wait to try this tonight! Finally, I had my first break and runout Friday night (though I’ve run out after someone else breaks a few times)! It was only on a bar box, but it’s nice to play knowing I can win the game on one inning. I mainly play on 9 footers, so that’s my next goal. I’m confident I will do so if I keep practicing, and I have you to thank for that. In these trying times, it’s nice to see people in the position of gift giving doing just that; it gives people something to look forward to, which I believe is one of life’s greatest incentivizers. Again, thank you. You’ve made this time bearable for me, and for that, I’ll always owe you. Congratulations on your recent professor emeritus status as well. You earned it!
Thank you very much for this great video! Would love to see a video that explains the effect of left high low, right high low English when applied at a certain angle. I found it very confusing when I first realized that English doesn’t always make the CB travel left when you apply left English or right when you apply right English. It all depend on the angle and I wish there was a video that gets into that in detail. Thanks again Dr. Dave!!!

While looking at this video I was able to see shots I do knowing where the cue ball would go but not Why it was going to that spot. Hey man! I really liked your content. I have no idea on how to play pool, so as far as a beginner viewer, I was impressed by the knowledge, but the video was.... let's say a bombardment of facts and that made me somewhat anxious whilw watching it over a long time. Maybe the content is vast, and hence the video needs to be this big but yeah, 15 mins for cue ball control learning is....an offer I can't refuse
Man you sure do have some really helpful, informative videos. Its funny. Every time I try to control the cue for the next shot, I wind up missing the original shot altogether hah. I'm slowly getting better though. Thanks for the billiard advice!!
I thought of just showing actual shots instead with slow motion, but I thought the “simulated slow motion” might have better visual impact for some people.
I've never heard the 30 degree concept explained really, I understood it in a 'que ball is going to go this way' kind of way, but didn't realize there was a way to visualize is with the 'firm but relaxed' peace sign method. Thanks for the tips!

Dr. Dave I use your backhand English and love it. the other day I had a spot shot and the cue ball was line up for a 1/2 ball shot to the right. Now before I go any further I placed balls 3 against the rail took the cue ball back about 6 feet added 1 tip of right english hit the cue real firm and the cue went right in the middle without hitting the 2 balls.Now, when I put the cue ball with 1 tip of right inside english on it, I’m getting a thick hit, on the object ball. Seems more like a 3/4 ball hit. It isn’t even coming close to the pocket. For the life of me I’m drawing a blank, shouldn’t the cue ball be hitting the object ball for a half ball hit.
BHE alone is not effective for a wide range of shot speeds and distances. As you know, that’s what SAWS is for. Also, if the cue is elevated, even a little, everything changes.
Great video. It's funny that such a thinking man's game is so often played by drunks in bars. In my area, I can't even find a table anywhere that doesn't serve alcoholic beverages. In my world, part of playing pool is learning how to deal with/have patience with drunk people. I should make a video entitled "How to Play Pool when People are Threatening one Another," or "How to Play Pool when Tina is Fighting with Her Boyfriend," or "How to Subtly Hint that Drunk Harvey should stop Blathering at you and Take the Dang Shot," or "No, You and Your Friends Can't Just Kick me off the Table without even Offering to Play me."

Nice job Dave, great video. The first drill, stop, follow & draw the cue ball into the side pocket was my first drill a player had me doing when I was a kid. Disregard the one's that gave you a thumbs down. Probably just some window lickers that can't shoot a stop shot. 👍🙂
I go back to your videos when I have a bad night at pool then the next week I play better I play in the apa league I'm a level 3 and it took me 4 years to get there but instead of being winning 1 and losing 4 this year I've won 3 and lost 1

@@DrDaveBilliards Thanks Dr. Dave. I would read it carefully. In fact, my major confusion on aiming is how to judge the potting angle precisely. I always do the evaluation basing on angel made by the line through the cue ball & the obj ball, and the line through the obj ball & the pocket. But the deviation angle varies when the distance between the cue ball & the obj ball is changed, so I don't have a consistent way to trim it and get a corrected potting angel. BTW, I m playing Chinese-8 Ball and snooker, which may require more aiming accuracy for their pocket size and shape.

I can understand that. I work hard to make my videos concise and content-rich to try to keep the attention of the demanding younger RU-vid audience. For those who really want to absorb the material, multiple viewings (and use of the pause and rewind buttons) can definitely help.
Dr. Dave, LOVE your videos! They have greatly improved my playing ability over the past 3 years that I have been playing. This video too as absolutely AWESOME chock full of great advice and drills. A question about this video: At the 4:15 mark where you discuss narrowing the cue ball follow angle hitting the ball fuller, cheating the pocket and using inside spin. The reasoning that you give is what I have a question about. Won't deflect the cue ball (right, which will lose the cheat angle you started with), then the swerve you mention will bring the cue ball back to left (to get your cheat angle back)? And won't the inside spin "Throw" the object ball a bit to the right (cheat direction ) and the inside spin on the cue ball cause it to continue to swerve left to give you the narrower angle that you mention? I really appreciate how you break down all of the technical pieces in your videos and I'm just trying to assimilate these new drills into what I already "think" you've taught me. Thanks for considering my question. Update: Ok. after watching this video I watch the Top 10 Pool Myths Debunked and saw the part about "no swerve after object ball contact" for a cue ball with sidespin", though that was a pretty fast-moving cue ball and the one in this video was slow-moving... So are any of my points above things I should rethink?
