Damn it number one was one of my favorite. A true example of how far they’ve come in the breeding living whit a giant hole in em and still living. I hope one of his sons can get near his level. Also wanted to add found your channel a while back and love your chicken videos I just started my own flock of free range flock.

My Americana Izzy is about five pounds and she can still stay away from preditors and fly. She isn't breedable due to crossbeak but in every other way Izzy is the best free range laying hen I have ever seen. I really wish the line she came from didn't give her cross beak because I would get the best Americana rooster I could find if she weren't a cross beak.

Looks like you've got an excellent breeding program 👏 I share your phyllosify. I would like to get some of your birds or eggs to hatch. I'm in S.W. Mississippi with a similar climate. And my property backs up to wetlands... with a few bobcats and occasionally a panther but my dog has done a great job of killing most of the snakes ... I do have a breeding pair of paragreen falcons on the property but have had 0 predation problems so far with my flock .I think mainly because of strategic placement of solar motion lighting.

Sad this had to be done. He gave it a gallant try. Personally I think the other chickens were cleaning out the dead tissue. You did the right thing.

Sorry to hear this I was waiting to hear about #1. Sorry to hear he didn't pull through. Maybe you can pick up where you left off with the other one.

Sorry you lost #1! But I have learned a lot from watching your videos. Not bad for a 6th generation Cracker! Appreciate your informational videos.

I understand the way you take them out of their misery but I let them die naturally. But beautiful rooster and I sure you have his offspring

3:05 Indeed. Their oppressors. Their oppressors are (as are ours) very close to home; in their home, if truth be told.

That sucks but its part of it. I was wondering if you ever sold some of your birds, I will be wanting something summer. Let me know if you sell them and I might get some from you.

I usually sell hatching eggs but the events in the world and this drama with Number 1 messed that up this spring. I’ve been keeping eggs for my own hatching because I believe we may see a chicken shortage this year. I will probably have eggs to offer soon but they won’t be pure Crackers. I’m breeding for functionality more than my own hobby this year so I have Hei Hei the replacement Cracker breeding American game hens and Indo the Aseel x Liege cross breeding my layers and pure Cracker hens. I also have a batch of half Cracker half layer bitties close to free range age. They seem extremely tough and so far look like large Crackers. The Cracker genes seem to dominate what they’re bred to. So yes I’ll have tough free range chicken hatching eggs for sale and maybe some excess roosters. Just not the pure Crackers. I think the mixes are superior anyhow.

Also I have heeps of American game bantams, which are derived from the Crackers crossed to OEGBs and line bred to meet the show standards for AGBs. Their genetics are fresh even though they are line bred and they are breeding like rabbits.

Ok, cool. They don't have to be pure, I will be using to full time free range. I live in south Alabama so I will be able to pickup as well. Just let me know, thanks

Bullfrog, You can actually free range Roosters together and they shouldn't kill eachother, Yes they will fight as mine fight but have never killed eachother (I free range my Old English Game Bantams, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Mottled Houdans ect) And I've never had a death from Rooster to Rooster conflict, Tho I know your breeding for that wildness so I would be careful, I wish you luck on these Chickens man, Defenetally watchin' this

The reason these roosters kill each other is because they're game roosters. Meaning they're originally bred for cockfighting and genetically very close to being wild jungle fowl.
