I missed the updates on those T-Rex chickens! I wish we had roosters with the same genetic in France! Making crosses with roosters such as those in the parentage of the one shown is almost impossible! Anyway great video it is inspiring me to make crosses like this one but with what I can find when I'm done studying!

For more than twenty years the South Georgia Town of Fitzgerald has been home to thousands of Wild chickens. That sounds like a golden opportunity to get more than 20 years of natural selection survival of the fittest breeding into your survival chickens project.

I had moles all over the yard ...just tore up the yard .... 12 chickens eliminated all of them... the mole tracks stop at the end of the yard .. Better than a cat or a terrier can do ..

Yup i'm feeling a new obsession coming on...going to have to try this myself here in the UK, will have to use heavier birds for breeding stock due to the cold wet winters but that's no issue really. Maybe Jersey giants crossed with something like feyoumi? I'm no chicken expert but this looks like some serious fun, Subscribed.

Try to find some of your native Oxford Old English Gamefowl and cross them to the stocky breed of your choosing. A large oriental gamefowl like a shamo would be a good choice. But if you can find a pure Oxford Old English rooster with some pure hens, you may decide they are already superior homestead birds as they are.

@@Florida_Bullfrog thank you for the reply, I’ll see what I can find. Bit of a stretch but do you know if anyone has ever tried selecting for tail extension? As in the bony true tail not the feathers.
@Florida_Bullfrog
@Florida_Bullfrog Год назад
I have not. Chickens have within their genome the ability to have long, bony, tails and teeth. Every once in a while chicks develop in the egg with these mutations, but there is an associated kill gene that activates when these mutations happen that kills the chick before they can hatch. Recently scientists in a laboratory have successfully deactivated the kill gene, but terminated the chicks on ethical grounds before they could hatch. In the fossil record there is an entire family of long tailed, toothed, birds.
@JohnDoe-ib3hr
@JohnDoe-ib3hr Год назад
@@Florida_Bullfrog That's what I was thinking, as in their genome allowing for it. I've been interested in bringing atavistic genes to the surface for a while and have also seen the work with the 'alligator like teeth' causing mortality, not to mention the tail counterbalance experiments for determining dinosaur gait and femur posture. From what I can find there is no-one that has tried selecting for more/longer tail vertebrae in chickens so there could be some potential there maybe. I read a study that says the pygostyle doesn't form until months after hatching so at least in chicks it should be easy to measure true tail length.

Mr. Bullfrog, I'm working on my own free range chickens at the moment. Do you think that black wheaten Ameraucana or Indio Gigante genetics would be superior for the Florida wilderness? I'm considering making that trade soon, and having that rooster cross with my game and jungle hens
@Florida_Bullfrog
@Florida_Bullfrog Год назад
I have personally avoided Indio Gigante because much of their game drive has been bred out. I like gamey roosters because I think gameiness is tied to overall survival instinct. However, apart from that, I think IG would be good candidates. If you cross a IG to a gamey breed, you might get the attitude of the game and the physique of the IG.

My personal opinion on Guineas is they aren't worth the noise .. The meat is not good ..and regardless of what everyone says , they don't eat as many ticks as chickens do.. They will however piss your neighbors off if they live too close .. because they seem to spend more time everywhere else. IMOHO

How would I breed more game gameness in my oegb ?
@Florida_Bullfrog
@Florida_Bullfrog Год назад
Find a very gamey but small American gamefowl, what gamefowl breeders often call “minis.” Breed it to 2-3 OEGB hens and spawn as many bitties as you can, at least 60 in a year. Raise them out. On at least some or even most of them, the game drive of the American will pass to the offspring. Only keep the gamiest few roosters and hens that most conform to OEGB traits. Then either line breed those or breed them back to other OEGBs. If you make enough chicks, you’ll make some that keep the OEGB body and the American gamefowl mindset. I have found that game drive passed on easier than many gamefowl breeders will acknowledge. Most gamefowl guys say you can’t make a non game line gamey but that’s not true in my experience. Because a gamey personality is the natural state of a rooster that has been made dormant through selective breeding, it doesn’t seem to take much to reactivate it.
@PIMP923
@PIMP923 Год назад
@Florida Bullfrog thanks for your reply bullfrog from my research the OEGB originally started as a "gamefowl " just in bantam form . But more recently they are just bred for looks and shows . I have a pair and looking for some more hens now. I also was thinking about false insemination that way the bantam hen wouldn't be hurt in the process and hopefully would help produce a smaller egg and chicken. Although I'm sure some large traits would carry over. I'm more experienced in dog breeding that chickens haha.
@Florida_Bullfrog
@Florida_Bullfrog Год назад
I don’t think letting an American gamefowl breed a OEGB hen will hurt the hen. I did that to create my line of American game bantams and the OEGBs were fine. The difference between what I done and what you may do is you would be selecting offspring with OEGB builds while I did the opposite and selected for AGB builds. You are correct, OEGB were originally gamefowl that have had the fight watered down in them. A second evolution of the breed is happening now where the athletic builds are being done away with in favor of more toy soldier like builds. That is one reason I breed my game bantams to AGB standards. The AGB standards still call for a gamefowl’s physique.

@skkakaksnakaikamsk

Next time you should release the mouse so we can see chickens in action chasing and catching the mouse without human intervention. Also release all your roosters along with the mouse, then the rooster who successfully catches the mouse will be the chosen one to pass on their genes to the next generation.
@Florida_Bullfrog
@Florida_Bullfrog Год назад
The roosters would kill each other if I released them at once. I can only have one rooster out at a time.
