I'd say star ratings are a good first guide if you've not seen a match, but like with any form of entertainment opinion is subjective and we all enjoy something different.

I'd say if you're trying to work out whether to watch an old show/match or not they can be a good indication but they should just be treated as an opinion (especially if you keep in mind what kind of match Dave likes).

Star ratings come from one dude. An out of touch, AEW mark at that. At least with a movie, you have a collective opinion to base off of. Also, don't ever use the star system when determining whether to watch a show, just watch it.

This has been a mental week of wrestling, AEW has been getting the feeling back with a fantastic Revolution ppv, Michael Cole has finished the story with the antlers, and NXT was delightful as well! If 'Hollywood' Jack the Jobber takes his laptop on that date to the Italian restaurant, this will be a legendary week. Thank you Sting! Edit: Jack talking about that Tough Enough murder reminded me that when Alverez said the victim died because of blunt force trauma, Meltzer responded "he took LA Knight's finisher". Couldn't believe he said that lmao

3:52:30 - It was the Alvarez-esque delivery that broke me. 😂 I love that these kickers happen deep into the podcast when everyone's worn out and our inhibitions have dropped substantially. 🤣 Worth sticking around for every time. (Even funnier that Ross has told this story at least once before in years gone by, but I'd still forgotten it.)

These 3 have aged tremendously in the years since cultaholic started. Sam and Ross have become wonderful versions of themselves. and Jack hasn't aged a day and im not sure he ever will

Treat star ratings like Rotten Tomatoes. Use it as guide or recommendation list but watch for yourself and decide it’s worth.

My thoughts on star ratings has always been if you like a match who cares how many stars it gets as long as you like it and they're good to use as a guide to see what matches you should check out. When people start getting offended it's just weird.

Most of the time those dishing out star ratings often concentrate too much on the moves in the matchand the tempo to notice if it is actually keeping the audience gripped and entertained. There is more to a good wrestling match than how many moves each person can get in which seems to be lost on certain people such as Dave Meltzer who often considers matches that are also big spectacles with an involved story going into them as less of a good match.

I feel I haven't seen Sam in about 2 years. Star ratings are just peoples' opinions on a topic, so no, they don't matter. Italian restaurants do though.

I love that they added the "Cody won't get another shot" stipulation. That way if they fumble it they are gonna incur the wraith of a whole BUNCH of fans and there aren't many things in this world that make me happier than when a massive company finally sees rammifications for dumping on their customers.

Star ratings are important if you believe they are important. Dave Meltzer is one man giving one opinion on wrestling. I don't like or hate them, they just, are.

Not so much for the novel itself, but for the experience. It'll send you down the "ergodic literature" rabbit-hole because the format (or maybe even _lack of)_ is super intriguing. Genuinely enjoyable to own and _look at..._ whether you intend to read it or not, lol.

I think star ratings can have value especially when it's done by a singular person rather than a company and multiple people who all have different opinions, however I think the second you break that star rating because you need to emphasis how much better a new match is then you de-value it. The fix is to re-evaluate old ratings within an "era" to reflect what is a top rank but that's obviously alot more effort than just going "Yeah its a 5.75 out of 5 stars" which yeah just devalues them completely if you're not even taking the rating seriously to break it yourself.

Rather watch the whole podcast I’ll just throw in my thought, they are no different to critics ratings in movies, you can get an overall idea of the quality, but there are plenty of highly rated movies that just aren’t for me, and some off my favourite movies are critically panned. With wrestling my taste happens to generally align with the ratings, so I’ll seek out and watch them. Whereas if you prefer the Roman style slow burn cinematic matches, then no, the ratings won’t mean anything to you
