In this episode of Cultish Jeremiah Roberts and Andrew Soncrant are joined by Naomi Wright who is part of a beEmboldened Ministries ‪@beEmboldened‬ which exists to provide support in the prevention of and healing from harmful religious experiences. We have interviewed Naomi before where she told us about her journey out of a William Branham off-shoot polygamist cult led by her father.
How can we be better spiritually equipped to help recover from cult abuse?
How important is it for people who get out of a cult to get into the church?
Tune into this episode to find out!

As a recovering, now born again, exJW, thank you for your ministry to ex-cultists! I was so blessed that my husband (never a JW) came along side me and helped me sort this out plus also many, many hours of prayer, Bible reading, scripture study, undoing the lies I was taught, etc. For 6 months after getting out (even though I was saved) I could not stomach the thought of joining a church, though I visited one once. Also, it took 2 years to be able to celebrate holidays without feeling really uncomfortable. I did so much digging into origins, Romans 14, asking other Christians how they view them, and I still pray about it so that I do not dishonor the Lord in what I am doing. You are so right about the trauma but for a certainty, I think when a person is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, that is the key to untangling and moving on. I have seen people leave and try to untangle that have not found the Lord and they are really struggling. I thank God everyday for his grace! There are still things that trigger me, like the hymns with the name Jehovah in them. Honestly, I cannot sing that name without cringing even though I know JWs did not have a monopoly on it, though they thought/said they did. I have been reading many books about overcoming the cultist mindset. My ultimate goal is for the Lord to use my 34 years in that group to help others escape. One day recently though, the Lord sent to LDS Missionary girls to my door! Not what I was expecting but thanks to Cultish, I knew that there were similarities between our groups and was able to share the gospel and urge those girls to look into their history and that the Bible was all they needed. He is good. ❤

When dealing with ex-cult members, you must keep directing them to Jesus Christ alone as their only hope of salvation. You don't want them becoming too dependent upon you and your counseling techniques. For one, they are already prone to look to someone else to tell them what to do. Only in Jesus can they be set free from that cultic mindset.

This is EXACTLY what I have been praying to hear. Honestly, as someone who grew up JW I have really struggled. I keep saying burn me once, shame on you...burn me twice...shame on me. I really did get discouraged because every time I've considered a church community I have been so hesitant. My husband who's grown up Lutheran has no anxiety about his faith and I am literally DYING... I don't even feel comfortable buying a bible. This is how bad it is. I'm like, I have to make sure it is a good bible that I will understand....but also one that doesn't reduce Jesus. Very stressful and I feel like I will just end up losing faith if I don't get the right food for my soul. Rant over, back to the program.

That sounds very difficult. Honestly, whether it’s niv, ESV, or Kjv, it is faithful to the scriptures. I’ve gone to seminary and studied Greek etc and how it’s translated and transmitted. My recommendation is to get one of those mainstream Bibles. It’s more dangerous for your soul not to be in His word. As for congregations, pray to God n look up churches in the area. Go to a reformed Protestant church (a Lutheran church can be ok too, but i believe reformed is more Biblical,) that preaches through the text line by line and keeps the focus on Jesus and the good news. God bless

It took me a couple tries to get thru to the end, but my new age radar was totally going off. Don't know about sitting thru a part two. I'd be concerned with this for anybody coming out of cults; especially if they are seeking a healthy Bible church. Programs like this can sometimes do more harm that heal within a scriptural content.

If she doesn't know what to think about being a female pastor, then why is she involved with this ministry of God's word to those who are coming out of cults? The Bible is clear about the prohibition on female pastors. She should have already known what to think about that.

What is even more important is that God appointed times and identified worship structure causes us to rehearse the gospel, the abandonment of this generational practice is exactly why do youth are going astray

Psalm ch.83:18KJV"That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth." @@christrescuedme2182 No that's not why our brother Paul quote Joel JEHOVAH is the lord and saviour of Jesus . @@aservantofJEHOVAH7849 Jesus is the same Good Shepherd of the O.T. (Psa. 23, Isa. 40:11, Jn.10). He is the same eternal Son of God in the O.T. (Psa. 2). He is the SAME Sovereign Savior and King of Glory in the Old Testament. He is the SAME Sovereign Savior of the everlasting covenant that was promised and kept, even under the shadows of the old covenant (Psa. 24, Jer. 32:40). No wonder Hebrews 1:8-12 also applies Psalm 102:25-27 to Jesus! The O.T. saints were always looking for a fuller manifestation of God’s eternal plan of redemption, as they spoke of Christ “by the Spirit of Christ which was in them” (1 Pet. 1:9-11). Because Old Testament saints were saved by the same God Who gave them the old covenant, but they were NOT saved by virtue of the old covenant, or by the administration of it. They were saved by the same God, in the same way (through faith), and upon the same basis (God’s grace through Jesus and His saving work), with the same salvation that believers have today.

Plz help me understand something- Apologia is saved because they believe in Jesus. Got it. Wait, the Catholics believe in the same trinity and they aren’t saved? Also, all Jews believe in the God of Israel, which, according to y’all is literally the same god as Jesus. But the Jews aren’t saved? Huh? Sounds a bit “culty” to say that everyone isn’t saved except for you guys…. 🤔
@compulsivehonesty
@compulsivehonesty Год назад
The first part is incorrect, you are not saved just by believing but by accepting the truth of Jesus' sacrifice, that you were dead in your sin without it, and allowing your heart to be transformed. "Apologia" is a studio, not a person, so it can't be saved. Probably most of the people you see hosting their content are saved, but in truth you can never know if a person is saved because only God can see within them. Calling yourself Catholic does not preclude you from being saved. Catholic doctrine just contains a lot of extrabiblical efforts. Many Catholics are probably saved. Religious (different from ethnic) Jews fully reject Jesus as the Messiah and are therefore NOT saved. They follow God in the Bible up to the point of Jesus and then they stop. Being halfway on board does not work. The culmination of God's plan in the Old testament was Jesus' birth, death, and resurrection. They do worship the same God, but they have rejected His sacrifice.

@@compulsivehonesty so were the Jews prior to Jesus coming to the earth aka Old Testament God… were they all saved? I just find way too many inconsistencies within Calvanism. No offense. Also, am I supposed to believe that a man and his wife, let’s say they are Jehovah’s Witness, and they on their way to their first Christian meeting with James White and Jeff Durbin, and they aren’t fully convinced but are willing to be open minded, but are hit by a truck and they die.. am I to conclude that none of them are saved? Also, what does it mean to believe in the sacrifice? There are many verses that literally state that all you have to do is believe. Am I to conclude that there are caveats to salvation? On the one hand, you’re telling me that belief alone isn’t good enough, but many verses argue differently. Sorry to be difficult. I just find that any small child, with the innocence and purity of youth, has the ability to believe in Jesus, and even have a fundamental belief and acceptance of his sacrifice, and are therefore saved. But this would mean that virtually any religion that teaches about Jesus and his sacrifice offers virtual certainty in being saved to their very young children. Be they Catholic, Born Again, Jehovah’s Witness, Baptist, Lutheran, LDS… ANYONE teaching Jesus offers salvation, at least according to how I understand what you wrote.
