Thanks. Seventy years old and just learning to draw. I try to do it every day. No formal lessons. Just watching artists like you and trying to learn. Am I doing it right? Not looking for a career, just loving the process.

@@user-ep4gs7kn4w Hi. The last 2 years was the end of my drawing practice. The virus came in and my daily drawing stopped. I don’t know exactly why. It was not a failure, it was a wonderful experience. I succeeded in doing some basic drawing and proved to myself that I could do it. Haven’t given up on art. I’ve recently started doing “AI art” using a number of text-to-image programs (computers are more my thing than the pencil). I have a small following (a few people) on Twitter that seem to like my work and I have been included into a community of truly talented artists. Who knows where I’ll go next. Thanks for following up with me. I hope your art has continued to grow.

Thank you for discussing patience! The art is also amazing. I think this is a very common problem for people trying to learn how to draw but just isn't as addressed. Small practice is still worth it!

Cool elephant :D I feel like I have less patience these days and wander away from whatever task I'm trying to do whether it's drawing or chores. It helps me to listen to podcasts or music while I'm working. Seems to keep me on task.

Thank you, Eleven year old learning to draw. I feel like this is the right path for my life and career, I used to be unpatient and I never detailed my drawings, but now I heard that I need to be patient. I thank you for that.

To me, it depends on my mood. When I really am in the mood, I can draw for hours. But, unfortunatelly, I have become extremely lazy throughout the years, those days where I am in the mood have become few and far between.

It all takes time to make good art so you have to use it. If you don't have the time or don't want to spend the time doing it you won't get out of it what you wish. But yes a bit at a time is better than nothing and it will add up.

I think I’m pretty good at drawing now compared to when I was a kid. I used to be impatient, wanting to be good right away. But then I started focusing on the little things I was getting right. Like “hey my coloring is better with this technique mom showed me!” Or “this eye looks just like it does in the book” But now I’m wanting to move on to animation, and I find that I get impatient again. I want it done right away, I’m too excited to see the result but don’t know if I could get it out right. The few times I have actually gotten myself to make one it’s rushed and isn’t my best work. So now I’ll try and do 15 minutes a day, and hopefully I can finish one of my ideas I’ve been thinking about for a long time.
@SchaeferArt
@SchaeferArt Год назад
I wish you good luck! Just think about it this way - if you rush it just to finish it, you'll regret the outcome anyway, just like you said. You won't be happy with it, so better to never rush a good thing. It'll be worth it in the long run :)

The kind of patience problem I'm facing is like this: so I was watching a tutorial how to draw clouds with oil pastels but it took so much detailed working and mine didn't even look like the video's one. So i got impatient in the middle and kinda press the paints too quickly on the paper...eventually it got worse :) and i called it a day....maybe I thought the painting wouldn't need so much time and effort :(
@SchaeferArt
@SchaeferArt 3 года назад
Yeah I have the same problem to be honest, like when I'm drawing a cheetah or tiger, anything with spots or stripes or something like that which will take a long time. I think when you start see that you're feeling impatient, best you can probably do is to take a break. Whether it's 20 mins or wait until the next day - whatever the time. Doesn't matter, as long as when you come back to it, you have a sense of renewed patience. Hope that makes sense. If you don't want your art to take that long (I can't stand when a drawing or painting takes longer than 2 hours, that's usually my max time to spend on something), then try creating art in a more loose way, not so detailed, etc. Just some ideas.

@@SchaeferArt thank you so much for your help ☺. I'll try to pause whenever I'm impatient and take some break ....that'll work i think... thanks again

lol if i start drawing i dont stop for at least 3 hrs, i.e until it looks good.. i dont want to put a timer cause after that long, when i see my drawing its way more satisfying. i kinda feel like, am i the one who drew this?. and if i draw for 15 minutes it dosent look good for sure.So, i spend my time in one drawing for 2-3 hrs.
