There is nothing more punk than criticising punk. One of the earliest anarcho-punk songs, "Punk is Dead" by Crass, is a scathing critique of the punk culture of the time and a declaration that punk in its original form had run its course and become an aesthetic rather than a force for change.
I love the way no-one ever gets upset at being “analysed” by Frankie. The fact it’s all just good natured fun is what sets him apart + makes his stuff great. A perfect antidote to all the cynical + mean spirited stuff on RU-vid. Good on you Frankie, and NAMASTE...
Yeah he's actually propper sound Totally friendly and down to earth, properly having comvwraationa qoth us with no jusgwmbt plenty of banter around the day we filmed this- the one with goggles and red hair
@paulnash9851 Sorry… obviously it was not my intention for everyone to have fun. It goes against the nature of my research, unprofessional and disappointing. I will do better. Namaste 🙏🏻
I am an old punk, 56 yrs old and this is hilarious. Its also hilarious that the first gen of punks are senior citizens and the first gen of hardcore punks that survived are about to be senior citizens over the next 5 years. We are....like...old now. We might be crap at a lot of stuff but we make great single dads.
Thank you for your service. Warm hearted greetings from Germoney! Going to listen to CRASS - Punks dead after this masterpiece of entertainment. The truth (tm) is Punks Are Dad and Old!!!
Cheers to y’all doing the follow-up to having kids. Sorry y’all have to do it alone. I never wanted and never spawned kids (37, vasectomy ✂️) but realizing that I didn’t know very many people working under the table to “not fund war,” but knew uncomfortably many not funding child support, bummed me out hard core. Three cheers for the mammalian minimum!
Some of the best advice I ever got was, "You're not hardcore just because you wake up early to spike your hair." A torn-up vest and jeans hanging on by a thread doesn't make you punk rock. The clothes you wear don't make art. You really want to be a punk, treat everyone with kindness and respect even when the world doesn't give it back to you, because punks are actually nice people pretending to be mean.
@@PuffinPass yea I get the hypocrisy but at the same time. Who cares. They want to dress like that and be around like minded people. What’s wrong with that?
That whole bit about not dressing punk falls on deaf ears for me personally. That guy was wearing an Adidas jacket with a NIKE fannypack, meshing those brands together is just about the most punk thing I've ever seen.
We used to have punkers at my high school twenty years ago. They were anybody's friend and took art and music pretty seriously. Some were very real about it and associated with no one except other artists. It was a fashion but a belief system.
You can judge any part of a scene by its drugs Mostly Speed - Pro Mostly Meth - Leipzig Mostly MDMA - Beginner Mostly Cocaine - Better head out Mostly Psychedelics - Veteran esp. if you've been through the Speed phase otherwise maybe annoying and self righteous
@@Joshua-uw7wm Well I'm more into psychedelic music be it rock or trance but it definitely covers all the vibes that drugs can have - hippie, punk or just going ham Just one mood one thing they don't mix too well but it's nice being able to balance things out to not go crazy and have those things as anchors in a normal life Put on Wine Lips, Mad Tribe and Babe Rainbow
In Germany almost all punks you see outside are actually homeless people and no one knows why. Were they punks first and then homeless or was it the other way around? Love your videos Frankie.
In Iran almost all punks you see outside are divorce children no one knows if they were a punk before their parents divorce or they became a punk afterwards
the military boot thing is funny. i think the idea was steal a soldiers shoes to steal from the military/repurpouse military shoes from your family. another theory is that the idea behind the shoes is durability, which means you have to replace them less often, which means less buying
Their intent is to come across as sophisticated individuals with the ability to laugh about themselves. But in reality, they are being exposed to the world as spineless pushovers unable to justify their bad life decisions.
@Bob H They were running AFTER him, but not running after HIM. That's because when you're a punk rocker, you don't want to be on the scene when they're looking for a suspect.
Saw you and the gang on the day you were filming as I cycled up Camden street and I was there thinking "What is Frankie up to next? This is gonna be interesting". I'm glad I finally have closure, and have been sufficiently educated. Namaste.
Punk doesn't have to be anarchist; just because you're anarchist doesn't make you a punk. Punk is to look like punk and listen to punk, and do punk things. If you only listen to country music, and DON'T PARTICIPATE IN THE PUNK SCENE, you're not punk.
"Although the punk scene is non-conforming in nature..." Ironically one of the most conformist scenes around. -Former punk of the 80's who recognized the strict conformity to a look and realized the hypocrisy of the scene so I just enjoyed the music without being part of the scene.
@@ilikefrogs4291 Some of us never grew up from when we were 15 lol. And I can tell you that the redundancy was intentional. I realized once I typed it, I decided that it was funnier to leave it in than correct it. I can see that backfired
What surprises me, in a nice way, is that nobody got offended by his dry humor. It’s difficult nowadays to find people that can have a laugh when being made fun off… Thank you Frankie for your work!
Punks (and metalheads) tend to be the least insecure, most genuine people you can talk to. Compared to hip hop/trap fans who have such fragile egos to uphold 😂
along with metal heads and goths, punks are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, through the years of bullying i had to deal with at school i could always go hang out with the punks and metal heads (sadly goths were not very common where i live)
I can't believe it took me this long to realise, but Frankie is genuinely the truest Punk I have ever seen. People will not remember the Riptide Movement, or KeyWest, but Frankie's excoriations will persevere.
one of tge best observations ive seen really spot on and really funny/ Not many punks exist in greece anymore especially under 18 year olds like. I hope punk rock never stops to exist.
@@noman2588 anarchists exist in greece but punks are a rear find. Been in the scene for a few years and most of them are people I already know or people that dont ''dress punk''. Trully hard to find nowadays
I found this quite funny being a punk who will be getting his old age pension this month. The bit where the punk not in punk clothes reminded me of a time when I was part of the local scene but didn't wear "fashionable" punk gear, and one my mates who did wear the right clothes said I was as punk as him as I had the right attitude, F U N. Now there have been loads of books written about what punk was supposed to be, all get it wrong but Joe Strummer got it right in the last verse of White Man in Hammersmith Palais I'm the white man in the palais Just loo- lookin' for fun Only lookin' for fun Oh, please mister Just leave me alone I'm only Lookin' for fun Lookin' for fun F, U, N
I've actually touched roadkill while hitchhiking back from a forest rave once... I named him "Roger" and tied him to my rucksack. I took him all the way back to the city, and kept him until my mates English Bull terrier got hold of it (the next day)
i was interested in the music and reading your bio it turned out to be yours... it sounds really beautiful. do you have a platform where you upload your music? good video as always
When I lived the true Punk lifestyle, poor on the streets and the whims of fortune, I hardly knew more than 3 or 4 punk bands and the social movement, as well as the rest of the 1980s, went by me completely.
This needs a part two and/or an extended version; as do your metalhead and hippe cultural observation videos! Ha. I don't know who you are, but you're quite entertaining. You remind me of some obscure version of Nardwar - you both do heaps of research before you interview anyone or present anything! Punk is something I've loved most of my life. Thanks for accurately educating the world about us! Punk's not dead; just old, tired, and asleep on the subway. P.S. - Do people actually listen to The Sex Pistols and/or regard them as a band? They're the boyband of punk. 😂 They were created/formed by a recoed label in an attempt to popularize punk, therefore bringing it to the mainstream to capitalize on it.
I love these videos. They are actually great! It also says a lot for the ones you make observations of, who just stand there and let you do it, and usually have a character breaking grim, they are probably wholesome folk! xD
God I love this format. Watching amateurs corpsing and wondering whether he drops character to arrange the shots or whether they only experience him in Frankie mode
You forgot Flogging Molly's or Dropkick Murphys fans. I bailed when their set opened with a spotlight on a guy sitting in a chair playing the bagpipes.
My husband is punk and he does not dress punk and im goth and dont dress goth 😂 i think ee hit an age where we just stopped caring but we love our music ❤
I violently and severely love these cultural observations, as a recent discoverer of punk fashion, that allows me to funnel my creative output into a productive and material source (clothing) wilst also allowing me to indirectly voice my anti-government and anti-corperatianism ideologies. Pun(fashion) is great, lol. Thank you Frankie :DDD
1:47 I got stopped by the police with some of my best mates a few years back. I'd stopped dressing punky years ago but my mates were still in the full on leathers and spikey hair. One of the cops said to me "Compared to them you look like a Young Conservative." That still makes me smile 😉
Moving back in with the parents for a time just to steal the one bottle of premium wiskey your father kept for a special occasion - sounds shockingly familiar.. 😅
These punks are a good natured bunch from how they reacted to Frankie. That’s been true of most punks I meet in the USA too, both young punks and grown punks.
