Hey everyone If you are enjoying my cultural observations and would like to support my research you can do so by clicking the link in the description and buying me a coffee (metaphorically) all donations will go back into this page and will definitely not be spent on things that are important namaste 🙏🏻
@@BlloodySunday - Hold on, there's Maori folk metal? Besides Alien Weaponry? Please elaborate. Also, Tengger Cavalry fulfills most of my Mongol metal needs, but i'm open to suggestions if you have any.
"Metalheads are open minded when it comes to how creative they'll insult you for not liking the same bands as them. Therefore we can say metalheads are just hipsters that are misgendered as goths" DIED
Its true af though. If you’re a metalhead you’ve also been called a goth/emo at some point in your life and you can’t tell me differently. It happens to all of us.
These guys were desperately trying not to laugh, and I love that. I'm a metalhead, myself, of course, so it's good to see the community being represented in this series.
@@stocktonjoans yeah, that’s true, lol. I’m still kinda new to the channel, though, so I still haven’t seen enough of these vids to really see a pattern, I guess is what I’m trying to say? Sorry, not really good with words, outside of my writing.
@@bostonmeadhorn4897with stating they are not metal, they are officially metal because every metal band gets to hear that they are not really metal Also google says they are prog metal but idk shit
I reckon Frankie is a secret math-rock/metal gate-keeper. HE KNOWS WAAAAY TOO MUCH to just be joshing. I reckon he's got a favourite Entombed album and is mates with the blokes from Invictus Productions.
The end of this video should be Darragh from Invictus chugging a bottle of whiskey and yelling “Ave Sathanas!” before vomiting in front of Frankie’s shoes
The guy trying not to burst out laughing when he says "for metalheads music is a competitive sport, whoever can sweep pick a diminished seventh arpeggio the fastest somehow wins" kills me
I think he's no metalhead in particular but also listens to it besides a lot of other music. I think he is just autistic with the superpower of indulging whole universes in a very short time.
He's definitely a metal head. There's loads of people who you wouldn't know are metal fans by looking at them because they don't dress in the typical way. We are secretly everywhere
And the opposite, too. I'm at the pub in my Pathologist shorts, Embalmer shirt, and Nunslaughter cap last week and this canoe in a pink shirt goes "yeah I like some metal, now I know you'll like this one bro" and puts on some whiny emo shit. It was like, August burns red, or a day to remember, or everytime I die or one of those bands who's name is a full sentence. Anyways, he was astounded I didn't know who it was. I'm like "I don't listen to stuff like this bro". He asked what I listened to and I was trying to think of the biggest possible bands I could think of that might ring a bell, that are at least similar to what I like, so of course I say Deicide, Immolation, Mortician, etc. Guy was like, deer in the headlights, dick in the mouth. Totally clueless on the most popular bands out there. I'm like, "okay have you heard of Slayer or Iron Maiden?" And he was only familiar with Iron Maiden and couldn't name one song or album. Lmao! "You like metal" okay buddy...
@@namebrandlabel I don't know what that means but I know it sounds like the kind of thing those obese unfuckable blue haired "poly" stinky incel social justice warrior chicks with septum piercings would say
@@Niko-pj8kt He was at LEAST mid 20s. Old enough to definitely know the difference between emo and metal. Two totally different things. Nothing metal whatsoever about the kind of stuff he was showing me. If you mention the biggest possible names you can think of and they look at you like you have two heads, they're obviously not into metal and are just saying they are to look cool or fit in, which is the ultimate poser move. "Gatekeeper" and "elitist" are terms used exclusively by 15 year olds who just discovered 200 Stab Wounds and new bands like that yesterday, who aren't still going to be into it in 10 or 20 years. Never once have I seen one of those emo types with the flat ironed hair and the woman's jeans and such at a black or death metal show. Worlds apart.
The best part of this vid was honestly just staring at the battle jackets and deciding who was the coolest based on their patches. Guy with the sideways napalm death patch and the beard was the best for sure
Frankie knows too much. this was very accurately specific. He either has a good metalhead friend or he is a secret metalhead himself. As a metalhead I approve
Sick, It's kinda rare for people to like both. At least from the people I know. What you been listening to lately? I'm obsessed with Cloud Rat rn because it's a little punk but mostly grind/metal.
@@stifle1622 Most people I know are mostly into one and just a little into the other, but I’m really heavily into both which I guess is a bit less common. I’ve been really into hardcore lately, especially stuff like Expire, 100 Demons, Trapped Under Ice, Drain, and Pain of Truth. I haven’t listened to Cloud Rat but I believe I was planning on doing that, thanks for the reminder! I’ve heard really good things about them
@@hannahkozlovic1715 cool I'm gonna check those out. I'm kind of a punk newbie but it's growing on me more and more. Some of the hardcore/crust is very metal adjacent. His Hero Is Gone and Infest gave me the punk itch. Now I'm all in. Edit, yeah all the punks I've kicked it with seem to like burzum and dark throne while the metal heads are... a little more just stuck in metal
@@stifle1622 Hell yeah, hardcore is a really fun genre to get into. I was definitely a lot more into metal and then got into punk later. That metal adjacent stuff is definitely good for getting metalheads into punk, a lot of the crust punk is pretty tied with grind and all those subgenres. I fucking love His Hero is Gone. I’m not sure why but most punks I’ve met are into a wider variety of genres than metalheads. Most people I’ve met have been pretty open minded to everything, but I’ve met more punks who liked metal than metalheads who like punk
I would ask that frankie does a video on Midwest emos and their new-fangled math rock but they don’t ever go outside. He would only be able to film that video by breaking and entering.
I came for what I thought was the inevitable cringe, and I stayed for relatability and laughs. Bravo, Frankie. Whether or not you were before I can't quite fathom, but regardless, you're one of us now. 🤘😤🤘
I'm surprised you didn't mention the one dude that scream "Slayer!" from the crowd of every concert ever. Not just metal, just every concert to have ever existed
I love how all the metalheads in the vid are desperately trying not laugh the whole way through. Proves that Frankie has already gotten to their gooey Labrador core
Back in the 90s my buddies and I would laugh at dudes in their 40s who went to metal shows and headbanged the whole time but never touched the pit....now we are those dudes.
That was brilliant! As an old metalhead I was great to see the new generations keep the same cultural references. “Metalheads are happier than you.” Is the truest statement on the video 😁 especially when coming out of a mosh pit. 🤘
"Metalheads are hipsters"??? You're not talking about metalheads. You're talking about hardcore kids which is mid-late 2000s /very early 2010s. See how these dudes somewhat resemble bikers? That's the metalhead look. Any metal band t, ripped slim jeans, any skate shoe or workboots or basketball shoes, long hair, and last but not least your denim jacket with the patches of your favorite metal bands. Hipsters look like grunge mixed with hippies.
seeing how they all have to keep their laughter in, its glorious this entire video is somehow more metal than most popmusic-listeners will realise, because it makes good and satirical fun about us metalers, and i like it. we like to laugh and enjoy life, but that includes 'negative' emotions. grief, anger, rage, confusion, anxiety... it all exists alongside love, compassion, joy and we are content with it.
As a Sabaton fan, I did not understand any of these references because I only listen to music about obscure historical events that I never heard of until I listened to Sabaton
This is gold and most of it accurate. Only times you see metalheads in the sun is when they're at an open air festival. Also I'm very much sure I've recognise some of the lads in the video from such festivals where evening activities is heavy drinking and bin jousting.
I really want to explain that there is very little crossover between Lorna Shore fans, Slipknot fans, and Megadeth fans... but then I'd just be proving your point 😂
This was really accurate sometimes and super funny. Most of the positive stuff is true. Went to a metal festival last Friday and i brike my rib. Everybody there wanted to help or do something for me. People were that damn nice and amazing
metal festivals are very wholesome. Which is kinda expected if you think about it - a place for people listeneng to similar music, why would they not be nice to each other?
@@ZichaelMakieta you are absolutely damn right. I've met some amazing people because of metal so far. Also when i did broke my rib people where worried about me, and actually did take care of me. That indeed was really wholesome. Also I've been to more rap concerts, even tho the last one was 4 years ago i would never go back. The reason is I like metal more and the people are sooooo much more nice
@@xmaryHXCxCan relate. All my friends listen to the most basic bitch stuff pushed by the industry on the masses. I never felt any resonance with the basic bitch music.
Loved watching almost all of them try to hold back their laughter and looking all all their battle vests. I think the kid with the Iron Maiden back patch had my favorite though.
New metalhead for like 1-2 years, today 14th June I turned 23 and got into more Extreme Metal genres, I usually, like 10 years ago, used to listen to Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Hard Rock and only Metal classics, basically I love all sorts of Rock! Kinda sad that I wasn't born one and that I needed to find my hobbies by myself only but I guess fate wants me to love Metal, started growing hair for more than 1 year and getting money to build my battle-jacket and concerts! 🤟
@@saintgeorge6456 well, groups were already formed and hardly anyone teaches you something and if you suck like at a game, sport etc, you can't play, if you don't listen to a specific music, you can't hangout with others and Metal has its fans and all but it's a hated music genre, especially in Romania, where every old lady (and there's a shitload of them) will think you worship Satan with this music... I loved lots of rock as a teen but not really straight up Extreme Metal, concerts were barely made and in other cities
Amazing. I have a hard time wrapping my head around this new world. It is like when I was 14 in the 80s and there were people in their teens/20s who were Beatnicks and Flappers.
Metal heads come in all shapes and sizes. And some of the heaviest and hardest metal heads I’ve ever had the pleasure of befriending have looked just like Frankie. Regular outfits, no noticeable giveaways, nor any identifying banners.
This was great, back in my day, I was jamming to Sabbath with Ozzy and AC/DC with Bon Scott, etc. Dont know if that's considered metal enough but it's nice to see the younger generations keepin it real.😊👍
I would love to see an eloquent comparison between these more traditional metalhead specimens, and the bedroom producer nerd modern metal heads who listen to things like Sleep Token, Monuments, Ten56, that whole crowd
You sir, are a genius. A veritable interweb god. The punk and metal heads vids were out of this world and intricately researched. As for the guy at 4:30 - that was exactly me 30 years ago !!! Like, identical!!
Bro at 2:13 has an International Brigades (the working class volunteers who came to fight for the Spanish republic against fascism) hat. Respect, honor y gloria!
Today I rediscovered Plini. Like, melodic instrumental progressive rock metal. Or something. I dunno. I am not a metalhead but a mediocre and occasional metal enthusiast. Anyway, I am so. freakin. glad. That they all chased you in the outro! Good sports, those guys. Alas! Not a one lady metalist!? Dah well… they are more secretive, maybe. I love Tosin Abasi and Dream Theatre! And musicianship! And Coheed and Cambria!
damn there’s been sm content about metal music lately, first rlm doing theirs on all the unhinged metal band names and then joel vargskelethor, the walking human metalband wiki, covering that. i’ve never been so educated on metal bands in my life
