Me and my ladylove, summer of 1983 in NYC,heard this song blasting from a record store in the village, damn listening to it now is bittersweet,RIP Janet Elise,My friend,My wife,My ladylove.
The Club's most underrated song, I think. Holds up 30 years later and I'm surprised I haven't heard more covers. I guess this tune is a great little secret. Great marriage of lyrics and tune.
Good music is everywhere, at any given time, if you want to look for it. There isn't a moment where it all went wrong. There's so much wonderful music to discover. And after all, we've got nothing but time ^^
Alexander Damiansson Real music never left. You just never adapted. People from the 50’s had to adapt to different music when the 60’s came around, the 60’s to the 70’s, and so on.
Culture Club was a lot better musically than people gave them credit for. Boy George's persona overshadowed their musicianship. Their songs are very well written.
Right I always wondering how does that work, we're dating for couple of years, we're in the same band, all of our songs about our "troubled" relationship, I can imagine Jon is just sitting playing drums like WTF man!
When this was released djs and music purists complained about how much synthesized music was on their album.. in reality John Moss played live drums to supplement the drum machine.. they all played real instruments... compare that to these days.... Amazing how far down the toilet the industry has gone in just 20 or 30 years... the drum groove and bass track here are just gorgeous... Lets also not forget that when these songs were released you had the likes of Toto, Yes, Quincy Jones , and The Police etc all over the charts and winning grammys ... all real musicians and incredibly skilled.. pretty hard to get credit for musicianship when compared to those legends :) By today's standards though Culture Club might as well be Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Hard to believe this song is 40 years old as of 2022. Better than 90% the crap being played on the airwaves today. And listen to the drums, bass line, synth violins----this band had soul and cohesion !
I totally agree with you the culture club boy George they still rock out still touring, which is amazing the crappy music than making now can't even understand anything that just saying these millenniums don't know what real music is, the seventies and eighties and the 60's music on my goodness for the best. We have RU-vid to go back to thank God. God bless everybody enjoy all the old tunes be kind and pray Lord knows we need it right now peace out 😊❤️🙏🙏🙏💯🎵🎶👍
This will always be a very special song to me. When it was a hit in '83, I used to go to my grandparents' house in Melrose, MA a lot with my parents, & I was always comforted by the sound of the clocks that my grandfather had built chiming every hour on the hour. The sound of the electronic pianos & bells in this song reminded me & still do remind me of those clocks.
What a coincidence. I was just listening to this awesome song and scrolling through the comments and I saw yours. I used to live in Wakefield right next door. Used to jog Lake Quannapowitt every Saturday and sometimes the little lake in Melrose too.
Any haters go fys, Boy George always made me happy when I was a kid at the end of my rope it’s a pleasant sound again thank you Boy George and Culture Club
I remember listening to this song, growing up in the '80's, in the 1st and 2nd grades, and it wound up being one of my favorite Culture Club songs, even than Karmachamelion
I am part of the younger generation, and I can't help but love these older songs! Whenever I hear the newer songs, it makes me wish songs sounded like this again.
This song brings me a lot of peace during the Coronavirus pandemic in NYC as I sit here alone in isolation, remembering better days and hoping all my loved ones will make it including myself.
Since we lost david bowie, prince and just yesterday george michael all in one year, god himself forbid boy george dies within these last 6 days of 2016 or even early 2017. Though no matter when he passes away, i just really hope he doesn't die young like george michael and many other amazingly talented singers over the years.
You just don't like his music. Leon Russell paved the way for all the artists you mentioned. He even did early tribal/industrial with his version of Ballad of Hollis Brown, a Dylan song. Look it up and tell me he isn't notable. It's on Stop All That Jazz, which is also notable.
This was my mother's all time favorite group. She was even in the fan club. I can still remember the both of us dancing to this song. This actually my favorite song by this group. Another good group from the 80's.
Man, I am probably the last person to listen to Culture Club but this is a terrific tune. Melodic and great vocals by BG and his back up singers Well done!
this song takes me back to daytona beach in the early eighties and spring break. working at a video club called "600 north" in the dj booth. many many young dudes would come up and ask me to play this song by that " hot chick". i would say you mean " boy george... they would no... that hot chick... i would say you mean boy george... they were confused and dumb founded that the hot chick was a dude. 😃😄😃😄😃😄😄😄
This is a summertime song. You know, cruising in the car when the heat isn't as harsh and letting the wind rush through the car.... Or when you're on the patio just relaxing. One of my all-time faves from the 80s
Right there with you! Cut grass like a son of a bitch all summer to get money to buy the picture disc of Colour By Numbers and tickets for the August concert in Indianapolis in 1983. 13 years old, screaming myself hoarse with my first contact high. Nose bleed seats for $12.50! I miss those days so much. 😥
This is pure pop soul, in the mold of Motown. And it is good. I can totally overlook Boy George's idiosyncrasies in deference to this superb sound. It is the top of hill; the class of the field.
When I was in 8th grade, I listened to this song during the bus ride to Washington D.C. it’s always stuck so firmly in my head and I always like to go back to it on occasion. I’m only 21 years old as of now but bands and artists from the 80s and 70s always just spoke to me in an interesting way.
I could remember this song vividly when I was a baby. Seriously! I was probably about a year old when my mother took me to a friend's house. She laid me in front of the T.V. to watch Sesame Street and this song was playing loudly on the radio. I just love this song.
One of Culture Club's best songs. A great pop song with Boy George providing a great soulful feeling with the vocals. The sax provides a nice jazzy touch and the use of the chimes was perfect.
I was at the casino last week. They play oldies and this came on. I literally froze and listened to it. Takes me waaaay bacc. I was 12 when this was out.
I haven’t listened to this song for years - but coming up to the clocks changing I sang it all day for a week - got up very early the next morning and the old station clock fell to the floor after I had changed the time -‘strange days indeed !!!
First heard this song from the bar that was under my apt 2019. In Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I was walking into the apt entrance and the bouncer at the bar said to his friends, you hear this song? Then he started singing the chorus. After a couple of seconds of listening it through the wall entrance. I Shazam it and now it’s one of my favs.
Why did the 80s have to end? Life was so much simpler, peaceful , and less stressful back then. World has drastically changed since then..for the worse.
reminds me of the day I stayed home sick & took the time to listen to it, I grew to like it but never told anyone. Awesome song though & still love the song!
HEAR THE MUSIC AND WORDS (TIME clock of the heart) YOU MIGHT JUDGE HIM FOR BEING GAY,,,,,,,OR WEIRD . OR EVEN LISTEN TO HIM IN YOUR OWN CLOSET IN FEAR OF WHAT OTHERS THINK... TAKE A LOOK IN YOUR OWN MIRROR AND LOOK AROUND YOU,,,,, YOU JUST MIGHT FIND MORE DEPTH IN OTHERS THEN YOUR OWN 1 SIDED REFLECTION. RANDY FROM DELAWARE
Absolutely love this tune!! Was lucky enough to see Boy George and Culture perform this live at Manchester Arena last night. Was a great guy he was went into the audience before the show having photos taken and talking to everyone for about 40 minutes!! Great night 😍
