Judy ,people in Poland will look at you because you are really beautiful. And I think you will meet more people who would like compliment you. If someone compliments me, I just smile and say thank you. The Polish language seems difficult, but it is not. I'll tell you how to learn quickly. (I know four languages and am currently learning Chinese and Ukrainian) Start by listening 1-2 hours a day to Polish podcasts or programs - without a translator. not television - it's about listening, not watching, because images will slow down language learning . At first you won't understand anything or maybe just a few words. But after 3 months you will see that you understand much more and how many words you know. After 6 months of regularly listening for 2 hours, you will understand most of them. As an adult, I started learning English, I was very lucky, my teacher was a professor from Columbia University. I had to listen to WNYC podcasts for 2 hours a day. And I had listened to them while driving to work and from work. After 6 months, I felt comfortable in understanding English. And if I had known that I could learn the language so quickly by JUST listening, I wouldn't have struggled so much at school trying to remember words and grammar.GOOD LUCK.

Bardzo dziekuje 🙏. This is so important I tell you, I don't know how to appreciate you omg ❤. I will definitely do this because I'm struggling to learn the language but it sounds so good when speaking it, I can't wait ❤. Dziekuje 🙏

@@judygabriels By listening to podcasts, it will also be easier for you to understand how Poles think. You may listen when you are cleaning or cooking. The more you listen, the faster you will learn .My friend, she is stay at home mum with 2 kids , she said that she mastered English really fast because in her home she had podcast always on. 😀😀 I smiled when you said that people walk quickly in Poland compared to Nigeria. And it always seems to me that we are walking slowly compered to... for example to New York were people just walking incredible fast. Another thing is that food products in our country will taste different, e.g. meat tastes different because we have a different bacterial flora and a different climate, and different species of plants are eaten by animals. For example, you can buy Danone natural yogurt in the USA and in Poland, which has the same composition but tastes different and has a different consistency. At first I thought that they couldn't make good yogurt there, but my friend who is a food technologist explained to me that cows there are eating different species of plants and have a different bacterial flora. I saw you bought red and yellow tomatoes. In Poland, pink tomatoes are considered the tastiest - they are called malinowe tomatoes. Be sure to try the malinowe tomatoes and tell me if you like them.😀Wish You all the best !!!
@judygabriels
@judygabriels 7 месяцев назад
@@elzbietakaczynska4403 did you say pink tomatoes lol, I can't wait to try them. It was my first time to see the yellow tomatoes as well. Poles generally walk so fast as compared to my country Kenya. The meat and chicken tasted so different, I didn't try yoghurt but the ice cream was sweet. I'll soon start watching podcasts because the Polish language will help me a lot. Bardzo dziekuje 🙏

For me, as a Pole, your observations are very interesting. Something that seems obvious to us may be surprising to people from other countries. As for everyone looking at you, it doesn't surprise me at all. In your case, both factors you mentioned are important. The color of your skin, which is still not an everyday occurrence for many Poles, and your undeniable beauty. You are simply a very beautiful woman. Best regards and I wish you wonderful days in our country! Of course, I'm starting to follow your profile.

No in bigger cities, you see people of every skin color everyday non-stop. People here just stare at each other for no reason, it's not considered rude or offensive--you have your eyes, you look at things and people:)

Definitelly not the most of Poles have pets. Its actually a small minority but when you have them you usually take them for a walk ...to the parks aon on the streets with you and this is why yu can see them frequently. Because most of the dogs owners have to walk them regulairly in the public :)

Regarding umbrellas. 1.We have quite accurate weather forecast for the next day (for example meteo pl). If the forecast shows no rain there is no need to take umbrella. 2.Even when I have an umbrella with me (because forecast showed it MAY rain), many times I just don't need to use it. It's simple: - why would I open an umbrella when I'll be under a roof before getting wet?

Judy, you're a very good observer. I've counted 14 points of your cultural shocks, most are unquestionable, so I shall address only a few. About the kissing - it's not true that there are no rules on this. Kissing in the cheeks is acceptable in family (especially for the older generation) and close friends (but even then not always with everybody). I suggest not to try kissing strangers or colleagues when greeting them (it's normal in France, but here it would be considered weird), just shake hands. Excessively affectionate kissing in public is not common either, even between lovers, actually it's not normal (unlike in Spain). About umbrellas - I think many people don't carry them simply because heavy rains that soak you in a moment are not very common in this country (apart from mountains), and when they occur, it's mostly during the spring/summer season. For the typical winter drizzle or light snow a hood gives enough protection. About cashless payments - still I recommend carrying some emergency cash, wherever you go (some foreign youtubers were frustrated - for example - for not being able to buy something at Christmas markets). Fast walking - you like it, I don't. I'm always asking my countrymen in the streets (quietly) - "Hey guys, what's the hurry? Relax, enjoy your surroundings!". About early sunset - don't worry, in April you'll notice that the sunset is later than in Kenya (and the sunrise earlier) - and it will be so until late August. In June night darkness is very short, trust me. About name/birthdays - actually, namedays are more important than birthdays in Poland. About the staring - your approach is reasonable, still I think that (at least) in big cities most people don't stare at black persons that often anymore (they are fast getting used to the fact that black people are here to stay among us). :)
