I used to live in nearby Moodiesburn. Cumbernauld was exciting to me - it had the shopping centre, the Tryst and Link for sports. I loved it. I sometimes drive back there to have a wander about and remember the magic of childhood.
Croy is a separate village not part of cumbernauld but I can see why you'd think that was as nlc keep allowing developers to stick more houses on the town center is the first indoor shopping centre in the uk
Cumbernauld has brutalist architecture. The motorways and dual carriageways are built for a reason. Namely to keep pedestrians especially children safe. All the new towns have their road’s ending in what is called a cul-de-sac a dead end. There is no point trying to race and high tail it with your vehicle to another area, because you can’t. I am informed it was 18 years before there was a fatality due to the design of the road system. I lived in Abronhill (pronounced “Apron” but with a b/hill) I was only there for 8 months, on Oak Drive, now Road, but I wish it had been longer. I was 6 years old at the time, and it has remained a very special place for me. When we moved to Blackpool when we came back to visit my Gran, we stayed at the Golden Eagle Hotel, next to the shopping center.
Really enjoying your videos. Glasgow/West of Scotland receives scant attention compared to the more romanticised parts of Scotland so I'm looking forward to you honing your video making skills and introducing us more to this part of the world.
I had family in Cumbernauld. I can imagine this place being a lovely new area when it was built but today it acts as a warning of what not to build. The houses there felt very utilitarian and the low density nature of the place made it feel quite isolating in some areas. One thing worth mentioning however is the good use of urban greenery and footpaths although the town centre makes the place feel like a right dump!
Well to get across you need to go left at the exit of the Glasgow bound buses but take the next left , go to the lifts at the end of the walk way, left and then there is a sign, down the stairs & then some doors and you there.
@@SomeoneExplores Well it’s an old building, and it was int he plans to have the bus stops there, so they just found some free space and there it is, the signs I have no clue… (It’s not as complicated as it’s sounds BTW)
