I saw a guy once take a ford economize pickup and put the motor in the back with a old v drive to make it a wheelie truck and to a young teen that was the coolest thing ever

super cool build! My buddy has an old V drive boat that we put a little 2 speed power glide in so we had Reverse & then dropped a sbc 406 into it. Our first attempt with the new lockout shifter didn't go so well, I unhooked the cable to Manuelly shift it... sounded like a good idea at the time but in reality the upshift hit so hard that I jerked it into Reverse & the nose dove under water. we bailed the water out & pulled the plugs. Scared the beans out of us both! Once the bugs were worked out, it would easily do 75-80mph! Not the smoothest ride but most flat bottom boats were never designed to cut the waves. Hopefully one day it will get rebuilt, painted prob cheaper than redoing the gel coat & we can drop in another sbc or LS with boost. It's so nice to see others rebuilding older rigs & making them fun again!

You have the BEST toys, Merlin. When I started my tool and die career (1975) my shop had a reciprocating hack saw. It tended to cut on an angle when the blade was dull- fyi.

Def my fav boat on the interweb .it's has to be great dumping a crude oil substance of your preference in the tank hit the key and fly past these guys with there crew of technicians tweeking and turning 20k+$ motors with there laptop hooked up trying to dial in there boats just cheeching🌫🌫🌫🌫 👌🏾mint!!!!!

Think you better check that raw water pump again, pretty sure its a Sherwood! They use them in all marine applications. I gotcone hooked up to my Chysler-Nissan diesel in a 40ft sailboat. Love your channel you are my hero with your knowledge and toy shop!

Always wondered about gearing the output, everything I've seen up here is only direct drive. & limited to 70mph, unless ya go a couple miles offshore in lake Michigan. Certainly raises some options, lol. Damn nice toy, Thanx !

In our high school metal shop (1975) we had one of those old reciprocating saws, yours is the first I've seen since... As for the prop and gearing you might do well checking out Hale Propeller in Old Saybrook Connecticut as they are wizards on props and getting amazing performance out of them. A lot of the 'Go Fast Bass Boat' and 'Cigarette Style Boat' guys use them and get big improvements in speed and ride from their prop service. Just give them the numbers of what you are running at and a video showing the ride and they will rework the existing prop to improve it or recommend a different screw.

Merlin don't know if you've watched the svseeker on RU-vid, but he hand built a Chinese junk sailboat and dropped a 5.9 and Allison trans out of school bus in it he could of probably benefited from you knowledge of the drive plate from your application.

last time i slapped the valve.. cuz piston rod was loose.. & made no noise over typical sounds.. but i know something was wrong.. good thing i tore it down

That is only the 2nd valve in 38 years as a pro automotive tech I've ever seen play pattycake with a piston and survive, I've seen lots n lots blow up the engine when it snaps off the head and tries to smoosh it into the chamber. Frack that was close to cat tastrophy.

You would think the torque on that engine would break the wood rails it set's on and you are putting more power in it crazy

Hello. Jut a quick question if you have a second. I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban with a 5.3LS in it. It has 230,000 miles. It runs good. But burns a quart of oil every 200-300 miles. I just want your opinion if you think it would be worth the money to rebuild it for my 57 Chevy project I'm starting soon. The high miles is what I am worried about. Other than it burning oil, it runs good. Your thoughts would be appreciated. PS I love all your videos.
