Hey bro, great video. See this stuff all the time. I tell guys, for the most part, when a diesel has a failure, it's usually a failure that you'll be able to see plainly. I'm running a diesel shop in Arkansas. Good to see videos like this.
Like the explanation of what happened. Had a Cat C12 do pretty much the same thing. Luckily we were able to do a piston & liner and bring a fleet we just went new oem head
order a complete engine with warranty and stuff it in and collect your cash, will be about two grand cheaper. the last cummins one i ordered was 12,500 out the door with labor and all

Manufacturing defects? Yes, but it happens during warranty time. This engine was pushed hard and overheated and that’s a reason for dropped seat. Last pistons always have more heat and sets just don’t drop unless you have enough heat
@@truckingandfixing Okay gotcha I live in Canal Fulton about 15 minutes from your shop, I am in school for HD Diesel right now so I was just curious. Trying to keep my employment options open! Thanks.
The reason I ask if it was chip I’m a retired mechanic and the last years of my mechanic and career I was in the fuel shop I had a friend call me one Saturday that was an owner operator he was at the Louisville truck show and he was thinking about buying one of those Pittsburgh power I think they call them bulldogs Were you can reprogram the ISX engine and I told him not to because my experiences over the years you cannot turn a Cummins hot if you deviate from the specs on that time and cover you will melt that Cummins down he didn’t listen he bought that Pittsburgh power unit and he left the Louisville truck show heading to Houston he was on interstate 5920 at Meridian Mississippi and it did the same thing as you’re a Cummins it blew the valve stem seal and destroy the number one piston to come and shop in Meridian didn’t know that he had that Pittsburgh power programmer as he Jan did it while he was waiting on the wrecker I think it cost him $20,000 to fix the number one piston and a new head and I will tell all these owner operators out there you cannot run these comments hot they are not like a caterpillar you can crank a caterpillar up But come and you cannot do it I’ve seen it over the years man would get those comments is turned up past the specs on the time and cover put more fuel to it change the time in and it will literally eat itself Grace and peace
