My favorite part about this is the implication that not only did Dr. Kahl's robot have a soul, but also snuck off to the casino and gambled it away and asked his dad to help him out when the debt collectors swooped in.

This is the closest the game gets to an actual bullet hell.

Hardest boss in the game. Even the devil doesn't crowd the screen this badly.

Credit where it's due, building a robot with a soul and a gambling addiction takes some skill.

I remember this boss being so excruciatingly hard that I had to step away from the game for a few weeks and then come back to it.

Doctor Erwin Kahl was a genius. A criminal, yes, but a genius. His aspirations knew no bounds, and he yearned to one day rule the entirety of Inkwell Island. But building a weapon powerful enough to subjugate the island's inhabitants would take both time and resources, neither of which he was in any hurry to expend in any great detail. Eager to gain such a weapon, or at least the material necessary to create it, Doctor Kahl sought out an even greater evil genius than himself: The Devil. The Devil offered to solve both of the mad doctor's problems at once by promising him a grand machine of incredible power, which the doctor would find in the nearby junkyard. Although hesitant, Kahl ultimately agreed, unaware that the Devil had not given him a gift...but a loan. And the time would soon come for him to collect his due.

Ah, the good old days, where cartoons like these never prompted anyone to ask “How’s that even possible?”

Dr wily legally changed his name and got plastic surgery, stole the master emerald from sonic and knuckle, then built the second iron giant. You can't prove that I'm right, but you can't prove that I'm wrong

that fucking boss battle took me an hour to beat this shitty metal robot..omg ... but it was pretty good :P

I have huge respect for the creator of this video, this boss has a difficulty rank as high as The Devil and is not easy to do. To beat this boss you need to be prepared for attacks, you need the right weapons, you need precision, accuracy, and lots of dodging skills.

Phase 1- 1250/675/840 Phase 2- 140/180 Phase 3- 1120/1440 Total- 1250/1935/2460 He has the record for least amount of space for a phase on the death screen progress bar. He also has the record for the most amount of space on the death screen progress bar. (Not counting bosses with one phase on the death screen progress bar.) He has the most amount of health for a phase out of every boss. You know how cartoon mad scientist robots aren’t meant to last forever and will soon be destroyed by the hero? Dr.Kahl didn’t follow the rules and made his robot nearly impossible to beat. That’s what I love about this boss,how Dr.Kahl puts so much work in his creations,and he even tries to protect his robots “soul” from the devil.

does anyone else think this boss is the absolute worst in the game? Not because he's "too hard" but because you do no damage to him at all during his lengthy first phase, and his 3rd phase is cheap as shit, with projectiles you can barely see?

Anyone else think the name of the scientist is a reference to Milt Kahl? I read an article the other day about him, apparently he was a Disney animator who worked on things like robin hood and winnie the pooh. I just thought this was interesting

Hard boss, but very rewarding. The first phase demands timing and mechanic which you don't have in the other bosses, loved it

1930's Iron Giant that turns into a Dr Wily/Eggman fight at the end.

The last stage of the fight where the doctor is laughing like a maniac will forever be seared into my memory.

After many months of frustration, I finally defeated this bastard tonight. Words cannot express the amount of relief and satisfaction I felt when 'KNOCKOUT!' appeared on the screen. Even more satisfying is that I landed the final blow with my fully charged super attack right into his smug face.

Doctor Kahl was a strange but kindly fellow, a misunderstood genius who was ignored by his fellow man due to his eccentric ways. Kahl was lonely and longed for a friend, then he got an idea. He managed to build a giant robot, but he wasn't satisfied with a mere machine, he wanted to make it actually alive and able to have emotions. Being a super genius he devised a way to place his own life force into the robot, but he himself was left a dry husk. The robot, now a thinking and feeling being, was grateful, but he was sad about his creator's fate. The Devil offered to grant Dr Kahl life again, in exchange for the robot's new soul. After returning to life Dr Kahl was rightfully afraid that the Devil wouldn't keep his end of the bargain and so the two of them hid in the junkyard ever since.

I love how he makes it look so easy.

Honestly I thought Cala Maria was the strongest airplane boss. When I made it to this guy she seems pretty tame now. Instead of dealing with two attacks at a time we deal with 3 to 4.

Who else loves this guys laugh? XD

Finally S-ranking this fight was absolutely _CATHARTIC._ However, I can no longer hear Dr. Kahl’s maniacal laughter without bursting into tears of despair. This fight has _destroyed_ me. 13/10 game

The robot can feel emotion, and it says Dr. Kahl's robot. What did it even trade to the devil? Maybe his creators soul?

I tried hours to beat him before watching this. I searched up a tutorial and I beat it FIRST TRY after watching this. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Just to let you know every antagonist scientist does have an enemy that isn't human. Whether it's mostly animals or non human beings. So far that has become like an epic in my point of view based on my pop culture knowledge on this kind of scenario.

When you destroy his laser, his face is like "YOU LITTLE SHI-".

Who is having difficulties, read this! (Must be almost frame-perfect) First drop 4 bombs in the lazer and bait him upwards (The Lazer dies to 6 bombs) Quickly clean up the spaceships, do damage and parry on that other lazer thing. Use the bombs on the 2 down whenever is possible, those skull bombs die 1-shot to the bomb, so remember that. After you cleaned those two down, "kill" the lazer and get your fingers ready for changing weapon a lot. "Kill" the heart with the normal gun. In stage 2, "kill" the bombs ASAP, don't let more than 3 accumulate. Use the bomb for the head, around 9 bombs and you should be good. SAVE YOUR SUPER FOR HERE, in stage 3, you will want to use your Super Bomb in Dr. Kahl, then get ready for bullet hell, it's not that hard. Use normal gun. GG GOOD GAME. PS: The lazer on first stage shoots at approximately 3 seconds, so keep a mental note.

This boss actually made me cry because of how hard it was to beat

Dr Kahl's Robot always takes the cake for being the hardest boss. And I'm trying to defeat him and got through the disembodied head phase at 1 HP, and died instantly by those homing bombs.

There is a special place in hell for Dr Kahl and his robot.

That first phase is annoying. It barrages you with 3 types of attacks no matter what. 2nd phase is easiest, but make sure to hit the bombs far away. Third phase you need to stay calm. Try to stay in the back, but not all the way in the back. Never stop shooting.

I just realized.. the soul contract isn't for *Dr. Kahl.* It's for *Dr. Kahl's Robot* Does that mean that Dr. Kahl not only gave his robot a soul, but let it go to the devil's casino, and bet on it?

Definitely was the hardest boss for me, that final phase was hell.

I like how in Phase 3, Cuphead is literally shooting bullets and missiles not at Dr. Kahl's Robot, his own face but Dr. Kahl didn't show any sign of minor or major damage.

I've been wondering... What if you played as the bosses instead of cuphead and mugman? I mean the story would be changed up completely and not to mention that you'd have to learn different stuff in order to win the game The ending would be changed up completely too because if your defeated in the game, would it be a good thing or a bad thing?

0:17 Idk why, but seeing the robot get angry at Cuphead for destroying his antenna makes me chuckle every time.

With everybody bringing up Wily and Eggman, I'm surprised there's no mention of N. Gin here. Honestly, this fight, in the first phase especially, legitimately feels like a 2D interpretation of his fight from Warped, which makes this one of my favorites in the game, even WITH the difficulty.
