Great and informative video as always, Tish! The Leon seems like a great car and a great value. I might have to extend my England trip to test drive all these cars. 😂 I like how the steering wheel has physical buttons unlike the new GTI I drove on Monday. The GTI also had heated/cooled seats and even had 3-zone climate.

I love the Cupra brand! But I still prefer the Formentor, that looks really cool. Now I'm hoping you'll get a Cupra Born on the channel soon. Excellent video, Tish!

It is mine mate, that's why I ordered one not long after you posted your comment, and I'm still waiting for delivery!! Pro Tip, if you're serious about owning one DON'T order new from the factory! Get a "nearly new" from an approved Seat/Cupra. At least that way you know you're actually going to get the car! All I've got since my order are broken promises from stressed out salespeople lol

Great review. I've gone with the 245ps model in the end as 300ps was an extra £80~/mo but damn it's a fun car to drive and doesn't have that in your face styling of more traditional hot hatches - just enough to make it known this car has some power 😵

I've had one for two weeks now. Works well if the kids are in the car as the space in the back beats similar cars. Few flaws with the car, mainly around the infotainment system but overall it's a nice drive even when taking it easy in day to day driving.

Tish… I think what you don’t like about it (at least it’s what I don’t) is that it just isn’t as refined as the GTI. It’s a little too raw for what it is… like a bloke in a muscle shirt going to a pub. A pub isn’t a classy venue, but it just isn’t right. Cupras appeal to the 18 year-old bruised egos of 35 year-old men. You know, the ones that got in your way. I believe the DCC suspension exists in the Cupra because it utilizes the GTI Mk7 suspension. It is one of the ways VAG keeps the Seat and Škoda brands behind VW. You’ve mentioned how balanced it drives in Comfort mode. It’s what everyone said about the Mk7 and 7.5, and VW heard it. The GTI Mk8’s setting was patterned on it, and without adjustments it’s cheaper and more reliable.
@ryanjones5594
@ryanjones5594 2 года назад
The cupra in fact uses the same DCC as the mk8 golf, they have however reworked the suspension geometry more aggressively than the golf

Have you ever thought about test driving a Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds 4WD 40 mile Range in electric, enough for most everyday journeys and over 80 mpg on average , my friend has ordered one for herself I’m not into electric cars but she says plug in hybrid is the way forward, I’m still not sure so a review would be helpful from a female prospective thanks

The i30N is not “very, very hard”. Maybe in full N mode (which is for track use, realistically) but just use custom N mode to knock back the suspension. But you’d know that, surely?
@AutoSocialUK
@AutoSocialUK 2 года назад
I loved the i30N but I genuinely found it a very hard right and I’m not the only one to think it. That’s what you want from a hot hatch really - the Cupra is just more accommodating for everyday life

Nice review Tish. I think the number of slight negatives on this car add up enough to put me off. That UK steering wheel with the missing buttons. Too many touch controls would be another that just takes enough shine off the car but this seems to be the way other cars are going. I could just about live with the cheaper plastics though in this instance. The style of the car just looks a tad too angry for me, it's just a little over done. It's good to hear that it drives well once your fingers have had a dance on that touch screen requiring a glance two that needs taking your vision off the road. It's so close to being a great car and not just a good one but for me I'll be evaluating the alternatives when it comes to change.

I totally agree with the presenter about being a performance hot hatch it should have a more aggressive grille design. Also, the C pillar design is ugly and dated, the best design is the rear end.

I greatly dislike how VAG gimps SEAT/Cupra models in terms of "tactile" quality in order to protect equivalent VW models. This started ~10 years ago with the Leon Mk3 (5F) which was basically a Golf Mk7. Back then, the Leon FR/CUPRA were, just like today, remarkably similar to the Golf GTI (Clubsport) but they looked better and were ~20% cheaper. The catch was some premium options (e.g. heated windshield, ERGO chairs) were kept only for VW and, most importantly, SEATs had a very noticeably weaker sound insulation as well as a much lower quality, overall, for interior materials, something you could feel almost everywhere your hands could reach. Nevertheless, SEATs sold well because mechanically they were good, they looked better than VW models (particularly the Leon Mk3 looked way better than the bland Golf Mk7) and the 20% discount was tolerable for certain younger people who could live with lower quality materials in the interior. Fast forward 10 years and VW spun out CUPRA as a separate brand in order to milk more money out of fools. Interior quality is strategically kept behind VW models just like before and is more in line with Skoda. Mechanically, the SEAT models are still good but the looks became more bland, much less edgy (you say this looks too masculine but for me, it's not masculine enough). Bottomline, CUPRA is now WAY more expensive overall and the Leon in particular is just 5-10% cheaper than the equivalent Golf GTI (Clubsport) so there's really no point anymore in tolerating downsides. VW effectively killed any reason to buy anything SEAT sells as CUPRA while the FR sub-brand was completely castrated (the "best" engine now available on a Leon FR has just 150 HP). At this point, Skoda is way better positioned with its Octavia vRS, which offers very similar quality to the CUPRA, very similar performance but significantly better value for €.

Great review. Why did they put the review camera there so dumb... Oh also the UK variant does not have the option for the drive modes on the steering wheel for reasons only known to Cupra. Also Brembo breakpads are not standard on the UK spec (not even customizable either) as it is in Europe. I ordered this car based off the glowing initial reviews of the European variant. This was meant be better than a gti clubsport. However, some reviewers say the UK spec also has different suspension too which is not as good as the EU spec (think it was auto trader in their long term review). So all round disappointed. UK has worse specs, worse alloy choices, worse brakes, worse drive mode interface and potentially worse suspension. Basically making it almost an entirely different model to the EU spec.

Not as long lasting as Mercedes’? Mazda? Honda? Audi????? I mean considering SEAT is owned by VAG (VW) and so is Audi and how everything under the bonnet is Volkswagen as it is under an Audi hood, cupra is just a change of styling and more power focused. So when you make a comment try not to be a hypocrite. LMFAO
