It's almost winter in Canada and that means we have to go ....to the beach. I hope you don't imagine we're going out in a swimsuit and jump into the freezing waters, but it means we're going to get on a plane and head to the blue waters of the Caribbean.
This year we decided to go as far as possible South, which will be... to Curacao.
Curacao is part of the Lesser Antilles More precisely from the group of islands called ABC Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao which are still under Dutch sovereignty.
This year we wanted a quiet holiday and we chose an isolated place in Westpunt which is also the northern end of the island. From the airport we rented a car to have freedom of movement.
We have arrived quite late and by the time we unpacked it was already dark. We will see you again tomorrow morning.
Good morning fellow travellers. Let's start with a presentation of our accommodation. We have a huge room on the ground floor of a villa; it is spacious enough to combine a bedroom, a living room, a dining room and even a small kitchen hidden in the closet on the wall.
The resort is hanging above the ocean, on a 10 meter escarpment. The island is extremely arid. The cottages are surrounded by lush vegetation manicured with care and attention to detail. There are mostly drought-resistant local plants that receive little water through a hose network that goes directly to their root. Cacti and aloe are everywhere.

The luxuriant vegetation of the resort attracts a lot of birds and of course many iguanas.
What could be more pleasant than a quiet afternoon in the sun.
At the northern end of the property there is a Japanese garden, a cave and a secret terrace from where you can admire the sunsets. It is far from the reception, bar and restaurant. It is one of the least known places and we always had it just for us.
