Not sure what the No Tick Rule is in curling? Here's a quick look at how the rule works and why it has been implemented in many elite events. Patreon: / chessonice Merch: chess-on-ice-m...
I hate this rule so much. Curling Alberta has just implemented it for tour play, which means clubs will follow shortly. Even from a viewers standpoint in my opinion a well executed tick shot is far more interesting to watch
The no tick is only on elite games. Standard rules still work fine for league games. I’m routinely call a secondary tick if my lead throws a bit narrow.
The rule is not all bad but the need to change the game to make it more compatible for television needs to be done very carefully. Let us be sure we do not turn chess on ice into checkers.
this change definitely goes the opposite direction form that, ticks really are not hard, even for club players, this adds a ton more skill and strategy to the game.
The more rules placed within a sport or game the less interest I have in playing, let alone watching. Recently I learned about stalemates after learning what the pieces of chess do. Always thought that as soon as you trap a King no matter what you win. Nope, thats not a thing. I guess some sports and the convoluted rules are for pros to make their sport more challenging to their elite class. So be it.
