Attic Raiders Retro Reviews takes a look at Curly Caterpillars, a colourful children's game released by Spear's Games in 1986.
From the manufacturers:
"Oh Dear!
This player has a lovely long caterpillar but an opponent is now able to take some of it away to add to his own.
No need to be too disappointed though.
The situation can change at every turn in this exciting game for young children. Until the very last moment it is impossible to tell which player will have the longest caterpillar and so win the game.

As far as choices go, do you not get to choose which color piece is added to the caterpillar first? You could vary your pattern and choose what the most common combination of those two colors are on the other caterpillars. It's not much, but it is there.

And if you're playing with more than two players you choose which caterpillar to steal from.

The rules state that you steal those two colours from ALL players, you don't have to choose who.

As far as my reading of the rules, you steal the two colours of body segment you pull out of the bag from all players if they have them next to each other, but it doesn't matter what order they're in - so if you pull out a red and blue, you take any red next to a blue, whether it's red then blue or blue then red. The only choice you really have is which order you put them down on your own caterpillar to protect yourself somewhat - so if you had RBRBRB and then pulled another Red and Blue, you could place them down as RBRBRBRB (in which case an opponent would take all your pieces if they pulled out a red and a blue) or you could place them RBRBRBBR (in which case an opponent would STILL take all your pieces by pulling a red and a blue, but could ALSO take two of your pieces by pulling 2 blues).
