The woman that did your hair is definitely a professional experienced stylist I would let her do my hair any day most of these people that would have performed this service would have taken short cuts and substituted products I really like her work ethics.
I’ve always contemplated doing this. I love how it loosens the curls but I hate how thin it makes everyone’s hair look. I don’t want to be able to see through my curls 😩
Yes Gerri curl I had one ,now ppl with natural hair I wonder if they have a Gerri curl because no way all these natural hair ppl have curly hair and roots smooth
This is a Wave Nouveau which was popular in the U.S. during the 80s along with the Jherri Curl which has tighter curls and is wetter. You can still get both done in the U.S. usually at old school salons with older hair stylists; however, in recent years the Wave Nouveau made a come back so you'll probably find some younger salons also doing it now. One thing though, many in the 80s, 90s found that while their hair grew longer, it made their strands overall weaker when they tried to go back natural so you have to be super careful and I suggest getting advice from a very knowledgeable stylist who has a lot of experience with these curly perms.
Any hair can have breakage, even natural hair, just do what you can to keep it from breaking including keeping it hydrated so you’re on point with that. I’m natural but I wish you the best with this perm.
I remember very vividly that we HAD to use neutralizing shampoo after swimming with a curly perm. Chlorine and the chemicals from the perm, combining, will break the hair right off. It must be neutralized. My auntie’s hair fell out from being inches long down to 3 inches from making that mistake.
Girlll your hair grew grew, I had this in my hair at the age of 10 my hair super grew as well. I’m back here because I’m considering going back to jerri curls, your videos gives me hope
The problem is they start out looking great like this but by the time the second, third and more retouches, they tend to not look as wonderful but rather like the old school jheri curls. This is not a bad thing in and of itself as long as the right rods and stylist does the perm. To me it's to each his/her own. 🤷🏽♀️
Please be careful. We used this in the 80s and the hair was great for the first 2 perms then with each perm the hair gets thinner and thinner until it breaks. That's because they didnt just do the roots they did the whole length.
You literally just typed the exact reason why people's hair broke off. This woman's stylist isn't reckless and isn't doing that. It was never the chemical that broke the hair it was always improper use of the chemical. 80's-90's hairstylists did a lot of stupid stuff against the manufacturers warnings that caused damage. They never took responsibility for their negligence and let the client's believe it was the chemical. Same with relaxers.
That's a Wave Nouveau we had these back in the late '80s and 90s this ain't new... I used to do my mom's perm at our kitchen sink. Yes your hair will really crazy and retain length. The only difference is the maintenance products these girls are using... Looks beautiful 💯💕👍🏻
I’d advise people to wear a swimming cap when going into the pool with your perm to prevent damage & do not use heat on your perm you can do that with the Gina curl re-formation but I still don’t advise that other than that you’re curly perm came out beautiful again!
My hair grew long but it broke easily - the worst part was a stylist who left it on too long and lost a whole section in the middle but covered it and I couldn’t tell for over a week later by the she mysteriously quit the shop
I like how she explains.. your hair is gorgeous. I had forgotten about this style. But you convinced me. I got one 2 days ago. Omg I Love it. Never going to stop Wave Nouveau is the best and I love the spray and hair lotion
Loving my wave nouveau curl, I had it for 3months now and my hair is growing and thickening back up real fast. I can't wait to rock it in the summer time. I just love it and now I'm on your color rods now purple and grey. I started on and pink peach color. I can't wait until it gets to your length. It's touching my shoulders in the front and passed my neck in the back in the curl length. I love that I decided to do this. ❤️❤️❤️
Hello @cashaetaylor7466 what products do you use on your hair and how often do you use the moisturizer. I just got mine done hoping to achieve some good growth.
@ifynwatu3239 I tried 3 different brands.. every time, I did my touch-up to see which one works best. I stuck with the Wave Nouveau products. They work the best for me. I also use oil, and I do this every 2 to 3 days. Also, every time it's done, I sleep with a plastic cap for 7 days and moisturized every night.. after the 7 days, every 2 to 3 days.
@@cashaetaylor7466 I really appreciate your response. I thought it was not okay to use oil with a curly perm. This will definitely help me retain moisture. Thanks again!
I have a wave nouveau perm too? How do you deal with all the oil every where? I think mine is drying out, because I don't like the oil on my face and on my pillow etc. Please and thank you for any suggestions you may share. God bless you.
I only use the Wave Nouveau cream moisturizer. I don’t have the entire treatment, but am hoping the moisturizer helps my hair to retain length. My hair isn’t oily at all. I’ve gotten so many compliments and my hair feels moist, but not wet if that makes sense.
wear a bonnet when you go to bed Do not use grease or olive oil in your hair don't wash your hair everday you can wash it once in a while also don't do tight hair styles only use jheri curl products in your hair dont apply the products everday only apply once a week like wednesdays if u just got u your curly perm done don'tuse any products or wet it until 3 weeks passed by@@sweets12345
I had the same process and loved it so much! So much easier to look after my hair and it grew so long but it did in time destroy my edges . Had to stop and even now I’m struggling to get my edges to stay strong and not fall out :( it’s scary Just be careful
@@angell1734 I kept it moisturised with water and leave in conditioner that comes with the perm or a compatible leave in conditioner. That’s all you need with the perm tbh and it grew so quickly so easily and retained length because it’s easier to detangle due to the loose curly texture and the moisture 👍🏾 So your natural hair grows out, you retain it easily and and you can cut the perm out as it goes it you don’t want it any more
Im in Sacramento and still do curls. What we have at our local beauty supplies are Hawaiian Silky Carefree Curl Wave Nouveau Leisure Curl Other newer curls are: Wave by Design (Design Essentials) Influance Joyce Williams (older curl system) Essations company used to make a curl system but they stopped manufacturing it due to not msny people bought it. Avalon Hair company who mske Affirm products also had a curl called Ferm it was a good curl you would roll the hair while wet then apply the booster to Each rod. Again product was discontinued due to not that many people bought it Its actually the companies fault they should have been doing tutorials and promoting there curls at all salons and trade shows which they didn't. I myself plan on getting with a company and to promote one of there curl systems. Softsheen Carson who owns Carefree Curl and Wave Nouveau the products are garbage now the chemical is not the same no more. Some client's experience shedding with there chemical products. Not sure what's going on with rhe chemist. Wave Nouveau used to make a protein builder which you used to put on the rods which prevented breakage which they don't sell no more
Do you have an Instagram or Facebook page? I have been wearing curls since I was a littler girl. I’m looking for someone to do my touchup. The last stylist I went to overprocessed my hair and I had to cut a lot of it off.😢
@@cbmakeupwhat curl system did your last stylist use? How did she over process your hair? If you experienced shedding how many days after your curl did you experience it? Soft Sheen Carson has discontinued Wave Nouveau and Care Free Curl it's no longer on the market. Alot of these curl lines are being sold to other manufacturers and they are not made the same and some clients are experiencing hair issues
I’m blessed to have natural hair that I’ve learned to take care of and it’s not difficult to care for. I’m 72 and have had relaxed and flat iron straightened, never did a Jheri curl but I did learn that all hair needs care.
Honestly Sis, your hair loss is quite substantial. When you watch your videos about this process in succession, it's quite noticeable. I hate to see it, but thank you for sharing your experience, so the rest of us know how to move.
@@Belle-bx9vs it’s really easy to manage now but my hair has been thinning which I guess is because of my lack of maintenance of the perm so I am going back to natural 😭. It’s really pretty tho icl
I watched your curly perm vids. And your hair is visibly thinner than your curly perm vids Pryer to this one. I would suggest you go do a slide show of your pic from when you got it til now. Sometimes we don’t see the damage until it’s done. The curly perm is cute but in the end it never works out. Your hair falls out. Good luck with your journey!
@@shayanathomasedit120 Natural hair doesn't all of a sudden look thin with natural hair shedding. There's a difference between breaking and shedding. I've been natural many years and never has my hair shed to the point of looking thin. No chemicals are healthy for our hair. There's no such thing
Salons don't like to use hair grease like blue magic back in the day, hair rep, even vaseline, I DO FAITHFULLY ! My hair has to has it... But ya didn't need to get that done, anyone can tell the texture ya have. No one knows ya hair like you, but grease will make a different...you just want something easy & there's no such thing...I don't believe in any whatever anyone does to their hair takes work...periodt.
A lot of people hair who got curl perm looks very dry. Are they not allowed to add moisturizers from other brands and stuff? Why does it always look dry?
some ppl like a drier look some like the wet look but they are probably not moisturizing it like they should if it looks very dry. Or they are not applying the products correctly.
📣TO THE PEOPLE SAYING IT'S A JERI CURL/COMPLAINING ABOUT PRICE: 😫This style was during my mother's era and she use to talk about it all the time. All my mom, her friends, and the people I heard about having this did was complain about the drawbacks. 🤦🏽♀️Please be real about it. Everyone knows the cons to having a Jeri curl back in the day was the fact that you had to keep it wet with that oily, furniture ruining, greasy activator. This does NOT have to stay wet which makes it BETTER. 😤People are mad for 2 very OBVIOUS reasons: 1st, because nobody expected it to ever become popular again in the black community and used it as a punchline in jokes in the 90s. 2nd, it's because many people in the AA community devalue our own ingenious ideas and don't know how to capitalize off of it like Gina did. Learn to capitalize off of your own community. 🎯FINALLY: The cost of living back in the '80s and '90s was much different than it is today. With that said it doesn't mean that people were charging properly back then either. 💶 I can't believe people used to do this service for such a little bit of money for all that work. People need to wake up and realize they were paying pennies for the amount of work that people were doing ESPECIALLY BRAIDS!
Not you lookin like a crime suspect going to the salon😂 Olaplex or k18 might help the strength of your hair. I've heard you can't use protein with a curly perm so those should help.
I wish I would have done this years ago... My 4c baby is no joke and now it wants to thin in the front... I had a jheri curl in the late 80s because of my sisters used to go to cosmetology school and I was their guinea pig. I definitely want to do this.
This is a Wave Nouveau which was also popular in the U.S. during the 80s, 90s along with the Jherri Curl which produces tighter, wetter curls. You can still get these curly perms in the U S. at certain salons especially the Wave Nouveau which is more preferred now.
I had an jherri curl hair grew like crazy product messed up clothes. Now I have an carefree curl rearranger after being natural. Natural 4c was hard and I was tired. caught covid and now hair is shedding and matted something fierce. Never had any problems with curl but I did with wave Neveau. I wash every other week and deep conditioner it's now time for an touch up and I know she's going to cut shoulder length hair off it will probably brush able. Your hair is gorgeous. It's one on YT talking about wash once an month that's not for me. How oftem do you touch up
Dont do it. I just finished growing my hair back out from the Wave nouveau. You'll be bald and back at square one. Thats why she hasnt made any updated videos on her progress, because it fell out for her too.
Wave noueva doesn't make your hair fall out its probably because you didn't use the wave nouveau ptoducts you cannot use natural hair products you cant treat your curly perm like its natural i had wave nouveau for a year and my hair grew @@danielleholland3491
Her hair doesn't look like it grew much in 7 months. It just looks like she has less curl after the second application 7 months later. Her hair is straighter then it was the first time, so it looks like it grew more. This is what my hair does with a mild relaxer. It barely has a curl...and just waves like this. He hair is more wavey than anything. I would like to see how it looks in 2 years. It also appears to be much thinner. Model is gorgeous though.
Help to retain length due to the change in porosity and the relaxed curl pattern. Moisture and oils can penetrate the shaft better, but moisture can escape just as fast.
hey, firstly your hair looks great! two questions: 1- have you every tried to blow dry it straight or use a flat iron for something different? is that ok to do with this treatment? 2- how often do you touch up?
With a curly perm or Japanese straightening perm you are to avoid chlorine pools until u cut the processed hair out or it grows out even 10 years later
I’m thinking about doing this to alleviate frizz. My hair is naturally curly. Gel it and I have waves. Need to know what this does to already curly hair. Did you find out?
If you have curly/coily hair already, it will loosen the curls and make it more manageable/comb through. I used to get this for 10+ years. Natural currently and thinking about going back. My hair is naturally curly and thick and the longer it grows the more of a hassle it is 😅.
I’m doing it cause I had an S Curl years ago and it grew as well. I love my natural wave pattern though. I’m just trying to eliminate frizz in Florida.
The hair doesn't look like it grew her color isn't as vibrant jet black, and much thinner vs. like pre curly perm. I think that she should've added layers. She had a beautiful head of hair before. I understand the frustration of having thick hair.
I got a Jeri curl back in the 80's. The downside of having it in your hair is washing it. After washing it your hair is so hard 😫 that it takes a lot of products to get it back soft again. Also, it would take a couple of days before my hair would feel soft. To get that mess out you have to cut ✂️ your hair. 😢
@ 3:25 that is the reason for the wrapping papers are for the ends of hair, so one does NOT have to twirl the ends around the rod & all curls are the same...that in a no brainer. So saying not using them is ridiculous... Also not using them causes fizziness... 🤦Does not make sense @ all...whatever narrative/s she gives, are ludicrous. And should use a (squirt bottle) and not a spray bottle, if its about Saturation and timing 🙄
