Before the contest is one thing, that's part of the game. Afterward if respect is shown then that's whats up. When you see that other guy not shake his hand it's because what ever the other guy said online, was in his head. That's all that was. He probably is a good guy, most people actually are believe it or not.

@@HessianLikeTheFabric "Pro Wrestling" isn't Olympic Wrestling, Olympic wrestling is "amateur" wrestling. Pro (or professional) Wrestling is WWE-style, which is more of a circus show then actual wrestling. It's just that WWE (and the rest of Pro Wrestling) started by Catch Wrestling which the wrestling wonn money for wrestling (thus "professional"), with time the matches became scripted and they added stuff to highten the entretaniment and the action (striking, jumping from the ring, beating people with chairs, etc). I do BJJ and I have nothing but 100% respect for Olympic/Amateur Wrestling.
@augustokonrad3572
@augustokonrad3572 4 года назад
@@HessianLikeTheFabricOlympic wrestling used to be amateur because the Olympics itself used to be exclusively amateur, with professionals begin barred from it, the last sport with this rule was boxing. Until like, 5 years ago, you couldn't box in the Olympics if you were a professional. WWE is Professional Wrestling, that's the technical/official term, even if it's not a sport (it's sports entretenimant technically) or even wrestling (it's more of a MMA if you think about it).

It’s actually really interesting, catch wrestling dates back to the 1800’s with people like Karl gotch, then in the 1930’s Ed “Strangler” Lewis began fixing catch matches and it slowly morphed into the pro wrestling we know and love today. Originally it was pretty much a con, hence why wrestling fans are called “marks” but after time went by and you got into the 50’s with guys like Lou Thesz it took off

Curran Jacobs wins due to strategy he thinks ahead. It doesn't matter if you're 6'4 290 pounds of muscle he knows he can't win based on strength but he knows his cardio is better than anyone else and wears them down and when he see's the fear in his opponents eyes saying " I thought this kid was going to be easy and man am I tired " he goes in like a Lion for the kill. What's even better which some might of missed is Erik Hammer was pretty violent, he was throwing elbows in Currans face left and right bruising him and probably dislocated his jaw he didn't wither away or complain he just kept moving forward and at the end when he wins his crew was happy for his victory but also talking a little trash and Curran immediately stepped right in and said no this isn't how I want to be represented by with words he showed he's a respectful competitor regardless of what actions and words were exchanged. Congrats Curran! MMA!!!

@@dannyhipolito817 it’s not REALLY dirty. Cross faces are part of wrestling. He’s throwing them pretty rough without a doubt, it’s just that’s part of the sport. It happens. Guys will get you with stuff, but just remember your learning and really pay attention to the tech of it. If you're looking for a good place to learn the basics, I suggest a DVD set by Tony cecchine called "the lost art of hooking". Its a great starting point for beginners. There are a load of other British wrestlers who trained at Riley's Gym or its rival Charnock's and never made it in the US due to being too small - Ernie Riley (Billy Riley's son) Billy Joyce, the 3 Belshaw brothers, Tommy "Jack Dempsey" Moore, Melwyn Riss etc etc all won titles in the lower weight divisions in old British "World Of Sport" pro wrestling but never really made it Stateside in the Bigger, Badder world of American Wrestling. Most pro wrestling was always a work since time immemorial unless there was a double cross, or two guys unable to agree a finish (eg Hackenschmidt vs Gotch from 1908) or things just got out of control ( eg Caddock vs Stecher 1920 where a mentally ill Stecher forced a legit contest)

@@theend3541 People have been doing show wrestling since time immemorial. There were Greco Roman style show wrestling matches in circuses in France in the 1830s. Any talk of matches going on for hours comes from Strangler Lewis vs Joe Stecher from 1915 which went 5 hours, but that was not a shoot either, that one was a betting scam which went horribly wrong. There were shoots but they happened for backstage business reasons, not just for the love of the sport. Vijay Kumar This is what Pro Wrestling used to be. Television time constraints and promoters forced “worked” matches and began favoring flashy personalities instead of legit Catch Wrestlers called Shooters. These Shooters would often anger the promoters because if they didn’t feel like losing they would legitimately beat their opponent. We have some new events coming up with some modified rules. The was also Curran's second match after a war with Johnny Buck. Hammer had a short match with Pat Stano and he was pretty fresh. If this were the first match, and if there were points etc., Curran would have wrestled differently. No way would Erik Hammer beat Curran in a folkstyle or freestyle match. Damn that was awesome. Rough sport, and I bet those guys are strong as shit with the way the throw each other around like that. Wrestlers of any type are usually so freakishly strong it’s scary.

It is a stupid and unsportsmanlike thing not to greet your opponent before a match, as if instead of a sporting confrontation a war or a fight were taking place. An opponent in the ring is not an enemy. And if in order to fight you need to consider it an enemy, that if sport were something personal, it means having a teenager mentality. Anyway, great meeting. As fighters, congratulations to both of you.

Great match! Does anyone know how much these guys weighed on the night of the fight? The only thing that kept Erik Hammer competitive was the size advantage.

Can you pull guard in catch? Or is it discouraged, and could it make you more vulnerable to a pin?
@StandWatie1862
@StandWatie1862 Год назад
I watched some old catch vids years ago where they pulled guard. Don't ask me where and if you can find it let me know. They didn't all have the same rule set.

I’d catch ever made a real big comeback would it be viable in MMA? For example how does the effectiveness of catch compare to free style, Greco Roman, and judo?

The idea of using a ring is to see what things would be like in a parallel universe where pro wrestling as a shoot is a viable spectator sport.
