Yeah, he definitely went places alright. Ruined the show to the point where even his most ardent and loyal defenders now hate him for destroying Doctor Who.
Funny on how Joanna Lumley was the 13th Doctor in this spoof, and later the actual 13th Doctor was also female, played by Jodie Whittaker. Both had blonde hair too :)
So, this Jonathan Pryce guy is a 'method' actor? But seriously, he seemed to enjoy himself immensely in this. And it seems a shame that Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley couldn't have been together in a scene.
9:50 I wonder if what 37-year-old Moffat said back then might have some impact in the future (after Capaldi), especially now that we know that the rules are meant to be broken...
and now we have Missy, the latest incarnation of the Master... in female form.... Curse of Fatal Death wasn't meant to be comedy, it was his mission statement of where He wants to take Doctor Who! The Doctor gets married, check. A time lord regenerates into a time lady, check. the return of the master, check. Romance between Doctor and companion (RTD did this with Rose), check. Fart jokes (RTD), check. The Doctor runs out of regenerations but somehow gets more, check (Time of the Doctor). The Doctor and Master romance, check.
8:15 She... turned... down... Doctor Who? Why would anyone turn down Doctor Who? If they ever decide to film an episode of a series near my local area (which at this point seems unlikely to happen) and were auditioning for people to play extras, I would jump at the chance. Even if it was just for one shot and was only in it for a second. And even if the scene I was in got cut out of the final version of the episode, I would still be able to say "I MET THE DOCTOR! I MET THE DOCTOR! YEEEAAAAHHH!!".
Andrew Chapman Yeah I know. But in a way she's still part of the franchise after-all. :P It's hard to determine what will happen in show biz i.e. what will be successful and what won't. For me, as someone who's obsessed with the show I would have jumped at the chance, but for someone who wants to have a job for a decent amount of time jumping on board a project that is pretty unpopular and known to be a monetary failure wouldn't be a good career move.
She would have played Ace's replacement role of a cat burglar (Jackie?) if the show hadn't been cancelled. That role ended up going to Beth Chalmers in audio. Kind of disappointed they didn't get Julia Sawalha for the audio stories as she is a better fit for the role even today.
Non-canonically, yes, he did became the Shalka Doctor, and was thought to be the official Ninth Doctor before announcement about the 2005 revival series was made.
