how do you deal with the delay during coop ? whenever i try to play with my friend we always have a 3-4 sec delay between the moment we press a key and the moment our character follows the command.

I think it's a skill issue. You aren't fully immersed in the character causing the delayed reaction times. You have to become your character, only then will you have no delay.
