oof, that indeed was an aggravatingly cursed seed. Not a single shop at all had what we want to see lol. I gave it a shot and it was cool to see where we lined up and differed, I think we for the most part lined up w/ the general gameplan, though I ended up leaning more toward HH which made it a little less awful. At any rate though, wow watching the pain you had to navigate through some of these rings is just downright impressive that you got through it, very well done Dusk!
*spoilers* And you know the funny thing is, rewatching it, technically there is probably an umbra line here that is relatively smooth, but I just have a hard time realistically w/out any advance knowledge of the run making the choices leading up to ring 4 that would properly allow me to lean into it (basically, you could get some pretty good morsel gen, self infused quick alloy, and if I'm not mistaken a furnace tap eventually showed up so you could have a quad striking quick alloy)
I took a look at your playthrough and I'm genuinely surprised it even won from looking at the cards, but I did consider the "don't even try to upgrade halls and just dupe a -1/-1 version of it repeatedly" since you have 2 chances after seeing it. You might've been able to get there with Construct, too, but the relics shown are pretty tough and there are no supporting good cards like Shroud Spike anywhere. You couldn't even go full jank with Holdover on anything since the run has no Holdover.
Wow! This was such an intense and distressing video to watch. Hung on every minute of it over the past few evenings of our cruise. I'm still stunned that you managed to extract so much value particularly out of formless child.
Oh my God, it finally happened. Sorry - not sorry - for this seed. It was truly cursed. I am by no means a great player, but I consider myself to be... decent/above average. And looots of times when I lose I think to myself "well, if I did that/picked that up, I'm sure it would be a win", so I don't really submit 'cursed' seeds. But this one... this one... it took you 3 hours, worse than I expected, wow. Congratulations and thank you!
@@ecbrd8478 I took the nomenclature from Northernlion's community, where some of his more disastrously bad Binding of Isaac runs were named train wrecks. Definitely fits given the name of this game though! Maybe some sort of VOD/run review series?
Dusk clocking out his brains CPU to clownputate every possible outcome. Even NASA's best machines would fail at all the pivots and half measures. Formless Child is a divine being.
@@RisingDusk Revel in this little man's power! Sometimes I use him with a curated reform pool, sometimes he just fills an extra pip behind an important unit like a living permafrosted primitive mold. I've also had runs with intrinsic channelsong/prism retrieval where he was the bulk of my initial scaling. But as long as I can afford to play him I don't mind thinking of him as miscellaneous scaling.
The sort of run I'd abandon halfway through after looking at my deck and seeing nothing... would never have found the Formless Child line. Amazing run, well played!!
After listening to Dusk's wrapup commentary on the run on whether the decision making was necessary, definitely check out Gabriot's version of the run. Leaning into the Hallowed Halls instead of Formless Child makes the run much easier, and the margin for error isn't nearly so nasty. Robot is not necessary to survive Ring 4, double Baron is fine, (although that's a pathing difference), Gabriot lived taking the trial, and he actually dropped micro in several spots which would have saved Pyre health. Playing aggressively off the bottom/mid floor with Calling hybrid would've been better for Gabriot's run. Holdover / permafrost / Spellchain are never found, but simply duping a cost reduced Halls gets the job done. Dusk had to work a lot harder lategame with big brain plays because of the line he took. Immortal Trade and Stealth tomb are good, but not must takes, if you've already seen Harvest + Baron. But definite props to Dusk for threading the needle and getting the job done on his run. Made for a great watch and demonstration of skill.
Yeah, I'm actually genuinely surprised that Gabriot's approach even wins. It lacks hits on the floor and generally is really slow, but it does avoid the need to pivot so much so it gets to focus a little more. I'll have to study the video a bit more because I'm definitely underestimating some part of everything there. I think the thing that makes that approach so much cleaner is that the deck can be much smaller, so the redraw on all 3 Halls is a lot cleaner. Randomly upgraded Dregs going over 150 damage is really important too, and something to consider in this line. I'll keep that knowledge tucked away for future runs like this!
@@ruudje86 Bit leery of posting direct links, since YT tends to think they're spam. The video in question on Gabriot's channel is titled "Giving Dusk's Cursed Seed A Shot - What to do when zero desired "big" upgrades are found??". Popping a few of the main search terms into YT's search should get you there. Dusk's comment on both sides is accurate though. One line isn't necessarily better than the other, and taking the Robot / Maker as a hedge isn't a bad idea, and if the drafts had turned out differently, could've been the superior line. Resin block with Halls does make Dregs decent though, since it's essentially Firelight Fade lite which loves 1 pip units.
What a run! My word that was well played! Those runs where every decision is crucial, definitely wear you down but they feel so good to win. Never seen Formless Child used in such a pivotal way.
Formless Child, the savior blob! What an incredibly played run. I've been really enjoying the backlog of cursed seeds and I can't wait to catch up to present times so I can binge watch the other playlists too. Keep up the great content!
Big fan of your videos and explanations, but this one is easily top 3. Formless child is one of the units I just don’t know how to use (soul devourer or whatever the name might be the other ) but a FC clutch is unheard of. Here’s hoping to find a video where you carry with shadoweater
I used to hate melting remnant until I watched several of your videos and I learnt allot about them, now they're one of my favourites. call me cursed but I love Umbra too and I'd be happy having them team, reforming some umbra units is alright really but I play kinda weird I guess xD
Melting is really tough to play, so when I say it's the strongest clan I am assuming "with optimal play" as a qualifier. Don't feel bad losing a lot while you get better with them!
50:41 You missed +9/+9 on your baron by placing him in front instead of in back. Hallowed Halls kills units one at a time, front to back. So anything with a harvest trigger will see all the deaths to its right.
Sometimes unlikely cards get the Job done. I had a run once where I picked Glugsider for card mastery and he ended up being critical to beating the run. But this Formless Child run is like 10 levels beyond that...
Have a seed if you want: TotalTowardClassics It is *technically* a win but in reality I reloaded a bunch to make it happen, and could never have won fairly. There is a certain unit here that you once said you could make work from any position, if you manage to win with that one that would be something to see ;)
Oh, you bet I want! Love these cursed seed submissions and am always happy to have more, though it's probably like 3 months before it goes live since there's quite a backlog haha. Cheers!
I'm going to set up an actual Discord server for my channel at 1k with notifications and stuff, probably include upcoming Cursed Seeds in a list and some other stuff. I didn't really have anything else planned, though I'm open to ideas!
@@RisingDusk I think it’d be really awesome to see the cursed seeds backlog in advanced, so more people could try their hand at playing beforehand. It’s always nice when there’s a handful of runs already for a cursed seed when you run it. Makes for some good intel when you review the runs that failed.
