@@easygrin1127 I generally agree with that statement as Floyd was an amazing boxer, but i've always felt Mike had the perfect physique for implementing peek-a-boo.
Mike always said he both feared and respected Cus. He may have been old but you can see he has an intimidating presence. For Mike it probably felt like a loving but strict grandfather.

It’s just a joke, it’s a way guys/ppl can tease her earnestly compliment one another simultaneously, you could tell both these guys are very socially intelligent people. Tyson on the other hand wasn’t as socially intelligent in the pragmatic way, but Mike had his own genius instilled in large part by Cus but perhaps just as much or I daresay even more by the incredibly dark and hostile place he grew up in on the streets of Brooklyn/NYC at the time he was there with the awful situation his family to the extent he’d even had one was in. Also because of this, despite his outstanding physical gifts (which height wasn’t among, for a world class super heavyweight anyway, given Mike was only like 5’11” hell maybe even 5’10” (now that he’s older at least lol) though he was always listed as 5’11”. On the other hand, I learned very very young that often the smaller, stockier guys can be the most dangerous/pugnacious ones. Also, given what Mike had to contend with emotionally and psychologically, in some ways he deserves more respect than Ali who earned his share too with his Vietnam situation but also was always a tall handsome beloved charismatic fellow without the dark background Mike had so didn’t face the kinds of dark emotions Mike was constantly struggling against and still is a little thought thankfully he’s doing much better today as far as I can tell (thank God for Cus’s genius in recognizing his talent and then in molding him psychologically, intellectually, and physically the way he did even as an elderly guy, Cus has a real GOAT spirit for that). But yeah Mike’s story is probably more compelling to me, and frankly I don’t know how peak Mike could’ve been beat by anyone, even Ali with his reach advantage and speed, Mike’s speed and power and pugnacious intelligence and viciousness was just unbelievable before Cus sadly died and Mike surrounded himself with grifter clowns and scumbags including that wretched witch Robin Givens, among many others like Don King and the whole Nation of Islam clown show. Anyway, yeah Muhammad, Cus, and Ali all had immense respect for one another and rightfully so.
@@placebojesus5652 in the end ali and mike each had their own trauma. mike seems less stable but that doesn't necessarily mean he had a darker, more painful life.
It's old bastard talk. It's shit talk men do to each other when they respect each other. Only Rules are you never get too vulgar or low blows and always leave family out of it. They really respect and like each other to act that way.
Eddie Futch, Angelo Dundee, and Emmanuel Stewart. All three are definitely in that argument, however i understand how Cus could be a favorite of anyone
@@seekforjannah2432 Cus made him a beast and this proves it. Tyson always respected Ali because he died for boxing. A true fighter till the end, something that Mike could never do even after he became a legend.
Stumbled on this again.... my brother got the chance to spend a lot of time with Cus,.... was an amazing man,... very principled.... very kind..... Camille was actually Cus's sister in law.....
Cus was overrated and his style of Peekabo never worked vs elite, key to beat Peekabo is Jab, footwork, long reach and height like Lewis or Ali, another key is being power puncher with granite chin and long jab like Sonny Liston and George Foreman you can't fight these monsters by keep moving inside and staying in pocket
@@MuhammadAli-kg7ij Foreman was old when he fought Holyfield and he still almost beat him. He lasted all the rounds and Holyfield still couldn't knock him out!
The guy's getting on guard, because that's what a fighter does. You could be mildly threatening to a guy like that in their sleep and they'll square you, it's instinctive after a good couple of years.
@@FormulaJuan3538 I meant in their sleep as in, they would react to you even if they are sleeping. If you want to be a professional fighter, you have to make that stuff your whole life, if you do, your reflexes will get baked in really hard to the point it can actually fuck with how you come across a little bit. Not to say people like that would fight you on reflex, but things like instinctively guarding up because someone looks slightly ready to do something, that sort of stuff.
@@ZephirumUploadBro... you've been watching too much baki. No, professional fighters don't put up their guard in their sleep. That is quite possibly the single stupidest claim I've ever seen someone make seriously.
About 18 years ago, I was fortunate enough and blessed to have met Ali who was with his brother in downtown Chicago. I was with my parents and we were all at a physical rehab appointment for my late father and by chance happened to bump into Ali. My dad put up his arms in a boxing guard and so did Ali. We even exchanged handshakes. A truly priceless moment I'll always treasure and never forget.
Brilliant really. While shuffling Ali's core is a target that can't get out of the way AND he can't plant his feet quickly enough to counter with any power.
For anyone who doesn't know, Ali would call Cus on the phone periodically, and Mike would listen from another phone after he moved in. Ali called once to ask how to beat Foreman. He clearly respected D'Amato's knowledge.
@@kellyaustin7487 Cus took over with Mike when Mike was about 12. The Ali/Foreman fight was in 74. Mike would have been 8. Ali retired in 81, when Mike would have been 15. Technically everything the OP said could be correct. He just gave the impression that Mike listened to Cus talk to Ali about Foreman, which would be wrong.
I apologize for seeming to imply Mike was there for the Foreman call. That was definitely before Cus became Tyson's guardian. Tyson did tearfully promise Ali after the Holmes fight that he would pay Holmes back.

First, they share the same exact Birthday (month and day obviously) and call each other annually on that day. Second, Ali mainly trained himself and relied on Cus for advise before fight. Reason why Ali couldn't officially get Cus as a trainer is because Cus was already training his own Heavyweight champion in Floyd Patterson.

I love this interaction bro. So wholesome giant athletic fighter talking to the master coach and neither can do what the other does but both are part of the same game
Doubt it, considering Ali was a prolific racist. That comment was about as much disrespect as he could muster. When you see he himself talk about whites you can tell he's a bigot
Lol beautiful moment man between two legends. As soon as Ali said the words "what would you do if" and Cus is already getting into fighting stance. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😆
You actually think Tyson would have beaten George Foreman in his prime? Pfft, Tyson won so many fights because there was hardly any talent in his era. Ali fought some of the best boxers of all time.
Ali got smoked by Holmes and and then Tyson smoked Holmes. If it would’ve happened Tyson would’ve easily won if it were the early 80’s. Take prime vs prime. Ali definitely would’ve beat him. So overall yeah Ali a much more fundamentally sound boxer most likely would’ve won. Love em both. Both superhero’s in my eyes.

I dunno man, based on the Pilot episode before us, and the fact that reality TV isn't great, I'm glad this is all we have. I do think that a funny skit could be made about black men being untrusting, getting pissed off with encounters with this old white guy until they find out hes conveniently always near a black boxer that takes up for him and his curmudgeonly disposition, explaining it away as indiscriminate, helping to lift brothers up. They then say, this is Cus. He's cool. Then they say, awww ok that's whats up Cuz, then he does a black hand shake thing with them and they say, keep it up, cuz. Then, exhausted at the end of his day having to defend his asshole old white guyness every day, takes his shoes off and says to himself out loud with a sigh..."Fuckin Naggers".
