Did you feel safe with the ongoing protests in Peru? Fun fact: if measured by distance from center of the earth (instead of sea level), many of the summits in the Andes mountain are taller than Everest. The mountains and that train ride certainly looked amazing, but personally I feel Machu Picchu is grossly overrated, the structures are 500 years old, well behind of its time.
Yes Peru is very safe in my experience. The only place that people will warn you about is Lima, I personally had no issues, but the locals are very cautious about going to dangerous neighborhoods. Two other travelers I met, one got her phone taken out of her hand and the other on the bus. Though this happens anywhere.
Yes even though Machu Picchu is the most popular attraction in Peru, there are many other interesting places in the Cusco region, and it's quite expensive for Peruvian standards especially considering you can go to many other sights for few dollars or free.
Great info Fawn. Cheers to your amazing adventures and concise content. We are so excited to see this next month and film it for our channel. Machu Picchu is #1 on my bucket list. We are a father and son who travel the World to plant trees, clean beaches and teach people about culture, history, and natural wonders. Glad to find your stuff and hope you might like ours too. - Bear
