This was a genuine masterpiece. After so many boring self-indulgent Little Bighorn documentaries Siobhan has produced consistently thoughtful, nuanced documentaries based on research and a refreshing approach looking at the spouses and backgrounds of the main characters and supporting characters. Kudos! Keep making these wonderful insightful videos.

This is my first time looking at your content. You presented this story well, one which I have read a small bit of history about, and you brought Hodgson into a more focused and interesting light. The historical photos are very interesting and many not seen in historical texts that I have read. I enjoyed the whole presentation and thank you. Liked and Subscribed.

I'd be interested to know if much was documented about the NCO's of the 7th Cav, such as the SgtMaj, the Company 1SGs etc. I would be particularly interested in the 1SGs who were with Benteen and Keogh.

These are great presentations...short or long. Personally I like the long, inclusive vids. Your research is impeccable! I am an "Armchair Historian", and I really enjoy your excursions into the folks in Custer's periphery. I've never been a big fan of the General though, so it's nice to hear about the men and women connected to the Seventh. They are fascinating people. The in-depth pieces on Benteen and Reno are insightful, and very interesting. I LOVE that you include info on the women in their lives as well. History always leaves out the women...especially during the 19 th century. I just wanted to say thank you for the time and research you put into this subject. I'm truly enjoying these videos. Thank you for sharing, and continued success!

I don’t know why people thought shorter is better. I really prefer longer. The more information the better as we can’t get enough on the men who fought for the 7th!!!! Please keep up the videos, if you can make them as long as needed to get us all the details possible!!!!

Wow!!! I also had a very strange experience the night before my first visit to Monroe and each time I visit the Bacon Custer house in Monroe I am inundated with emotion, presence, and bodily reaction to those experiences, overwhelmed.

Sorry for the follow-up comment, but I did some research into the paranormal aspect of your awesome video, and found a story of an intern of a research team was staying in a cottage near the battlefield and saw an apparition of Lt. Hodgson sitting on a chair with a look of dread, then disappeared. Please keep up the great work you do!

I'm generally not a ghost story believer, but that story about the medium is pretty cool. I think mediums may have been partially the therapists of their day, providing resolution to people on troubled issues.

Nice story telling. I was just watching a video about Reno’s retreat. They used a lot of their ammo during the retreat from the woods. How did they expect them to go help Custer right away? They had to wait on the mule train to reach them.

Great format, would love to hear some stories regarding enlisted men.

it has always struck me funny, that Reno would go at the time that he did to get Hodgsons's items and yet... one of the Sgt.s told Reno that they should go down and help the wounded being killed and tortured within sight and hearing and was told he could take ten men or so if he wished. In this it is so true to the time, enlisted left on the trail if they fell and officers carried if sick or wounded. Same as the reburials. Officers in 1877 and the enlisted years later. Truth be known I don't think any officer including Custer got anything that prevented a scattering of the bones over a year. I read that the Reno's defense sights have men buried in them and would make sense as you could throw the dirt up and the men could be used as sandbags. The note said there was a steel spike at the place so any medal detector could help for the placement of a marker. Men that died were so often buried where they could not be dug up and scalped. Which one of the dead was left buried after the Far West made land at the area where the corn was abandoned On Grant Marshes run to Fort Lincoln, . The man from the Far West was dug up and scalped. Found a good video on RU-vid speaking of the pistols that Custer had ... a 41 I think and one of three made. Anyway, it was about Doctor Porter who said the hole in Custer was that rounds size as Porter had one of the three also. Makes sense as most of Reno's men were scalped and mutilated but suicides were taboo as who wants that medicine. Custer shot between the ear and temple is coincidence enough while Tom was the most mutilated or so it is said. Still all this Hodgson stuff. Why did Reno continue to make stupid decisions and it also shows that the warriors pulled off enough to allow Reno and a few men to go down the bluffs. also, I don't know if it is this video or my computer, but the sound was going in and out. Siobhan, you make history come alive as we need to put a face on these people and ensure that they are not forgotten. Here is a question for you. Do you think that Benteen delayed at the Morass and elsewhere because he did not want to do "No quarter" on a village and kill all. I know it was something that spare those over 12 and yet that would be such an impossibility. Benteen was pretty brave when entrenched. But then again, he asked and received the advance which most forget and the map you showed on a previous video has it close. The command was divided up and sent in directions at the curve in the valley approach which prevented them from being seen in any direction. Plus many testified as far as enlisted that Benteen had the advance taken away from him there as he was sent to the left. anyways it is one thing that leads to another that prevents me from getting anything done. You could and should make a video of all the premonitions of the battles from the leaving of Fort Lincoln to the guidons falling to the rear, to Bouyer saying it was his last day and also Reynolds with his premonition, the man behind the hardtack box and later in the campaign when William O Taylor asked for discharge as he was aware he was going to die. Many more examples but it is a wonder how much foreshadowing and fear became the rule for Custer to continue as he also had a premonition.

Your volume is too low when mine is dialed up max.. A doctor examined Custer's body and found a pistol round in his head, which might indicate that Custer committed suicide. He kept it a secret until Custer's wife passed away. Any truth to this?
