While most musicians who play this way simply remove the low E string from a standard guitar, this one is a true 5 string. Tuned to open G. www.newperspectivesmusic.com

Hey Tim, thanks for the inspiration to work with reclaimed materials. I was recently cleaning out a very old barn and discovered an iron church bell from the late 1800s. I decided to build a stand for it reclaiming oak frame wood from the same barn where I found it.

I so often go to youtube to find vids of custom guitar builds. The vids I find tend to be awful, and eventually down that list one of your vids comes up. You are the most entertaining instrument builder I have found on this platform . That being said, I much prefer your vids where you explain what you are doing step-by-step over the ones that just have music in the background.

There is a speech from Gandhi that has been paraphrased into a saying. Be the change that you want to see in the world. Tim my friend. I think you are living that life to the fullest. This guitar was beautiful, I love how it still looked worn. It has a lot of character, and even though it's technically a brand new guitar, it looks like it has a lot of history. I guess that is just the beauty in using reclaimed wood.The neck came out awesome, and it does look like it would be a lot of fun to play.I almost forgot to mention that guitar sounds awesome and the track was great. Have you though of compiling a list of your tracks into an album?

Thanks. I have an old album on itunes and I have used some of the songs from that here (some of them really suck). I started another album just before my son was born then got busy. lol. I also use some of those songs. the rest of them, like this video without words, are tracks I make specifically for background music more recently and with little effort. I don't think they'd be all that enjoyable as standalone 'songs.'

@timsway
@timsway 4 года назад
The only reason I don't use ties (and I've had options to get some) is they are heavily treated in creosote which you don't want to mess with. You're better off finding barn beams and things that weren't treated and buried in the ground. tis guitar is made from framing lumber that was chestnut - beautiful wood that is now extinct!
@FlaxeMusic
@FlaxeMusic 4 года назад
Idea: Short neck "mando-guitar" 5-string (Because 6 leaves you either tuning down too low on the bottom to fit the scale length without an overly burly string or too high on the top to fit a very high pitched piece of fishing line). Tuned in 5ths, 22" scale length to accommodate for the 4 note per string violin/mando scale stretch. Basically a big electric 5 string Mandola.

@@tonyfoxxbuilds1920 get cut2d to start. It's only $150 and as you upgrade to software that does more, your I intial initial investment gets applied to the cost.

I love that you use reclaimed wood. Very cool.. I might have to get you to build me a V. The wood imho doesn't really make any difference on the tone of a solid body. Mostly electronics. I've been playing for over 40 years. I think mostly physics proves it's the bridge, and nut and pickups that matter. I also like a neck that is thick enough because it does seem to not vibrate and rob strings of the same and sustain, but I have no proof of that. Very cool vids though. Good stuff . My name is Tim too. 😂👍👍🇺🇸👍

cheers Tim. I'd love to make a V for you. contact me via newperspectivesmusic.com to discuss. All parts of the electric guitar factor in to tone, but some more than others. Wood is pretty low on the importance list - WAY below, pickups, strings, amp and PRACTICE!! lol (not necessarily in that order :)
