I don't normally ever comment. But I got to give you a boat load of props. Good Job! This isn't easy. I was about to embark on my A pillars myself and I wasn't quite sure how I was going to start but you have given me the blueprint and I can't wait to get started. Thank you so much for your time and dedication to educating us about the process. And I believe we all appreciate the authenticity of your comments and experience. Cheers!!!

If you want to do a cheap, yet visually appealing, paint job on the pillars then pick up a can of "trim black" it'll give you a nice satin finish that's still fairly forgiving so you don't have to do a ton of sanding

Oh man your experience remind me of mine very much haha. Wooden form went well, fillers went well with same adhesion suspicions. Then the upholstery was a horrible horrible experience haha. I suck at it and all the concave parts peeled off in the sun. What is cool it peeled in a way it looks quite organic but well it went bad. Will leave it like this and some day peel the fabric and redo some form to stretch the fabric less this time…

Use four coats of the bedliner, but don't aim the spray nozzle too close, measure at least 8-10" away from the pods and with a sweeping motion, you'll get it to blend like a dream. Every coat you wait 4 hours to dry.

The best less messy material you can use for small custom jobs like pillars or your dash is the modelling epoxy plasticine my friend! It's two parts mix and you have few hours to play with it. In 24 hours goes solid and you can sand, drill, paint, wrap it etc. Check online for the Apoxie Sculpt :-) You will never go back i promise !

So, could this be spread over the form he built using the popsicle sticks? And then, sanded smooth for covering or painting?

@nikosraptis1985 11 месяцев назад
@@markbest4230 Yes definitely ! This is the technique i use too, with small mdf strips and then apply straight on the outer and inner skin that modelling clay / plasticine

Probably the heat from the ca reaction or hot glue. Maybe next time install the taped up tweeter in the ring to keep the roundness.

This is a bit late however, next time you run into the "never setting" resin/hardener prob and have at least properly mixed the fluids together, regardless of how off the mixture is, break out the heat gun and pour it on. I have serious problems in the winter time trying to find that golden ratio of work vs. set time, so I will intentionally add less hardener than recommended to ensure ample assembly time then start in with the heat gun to kick off the reaction. I have also started doing this in the summer as well only I will set the project outside in direct sunlight instead of using the heat gun.

you should put milkshake on the inside like peter.

Don't really see the need for an overkill like that. It's a tweeter after all🤷🏻‍♂️

@@RAW-CAt yes its just for a tweeter, but i think it would help avoid any cracks and make it less likely to come apart. its your build anyway, do what you wanna do :P just what i think would be nice. other than that i think it looks good :D

I think maybe if the ring is made from PLA then I reckon the heat and glue will have caused it to change shape, ask your mate if he can print some in ABS which will be more resistant to heat. PLA starts to deform at lower temperatures. I guess with the tweeters secured you might be fine... time will tell :) not a major issue

@@RAW-CAt Your knowledge is very in depth. I request you to upload tutorial videos from basics to advanced about car audio setup selection, installation, tuning both active and passive. Would be really helpful for car audio enthusiasts from developing countries where car audio installation is still crude and mostly on the basis trial and error.
