Hi Tammy, Yes! In "Custom Blythe Doll #5 - Sculpting & Face-Up - Sweet Sophia - Mermaid Theme - Customisation Process" about 10 minutes in, I am painting on gouache freckles. I would suggest starting with watered down paint (gouache or watercolour ideally since they will wipe off easily) and have a clean tissue in hand to blot away any excess water as you go!

A lot of it is interchangeable, and personal preference, some people use pencil for almost everything, some use paint. I think pastel is best for blushing, and large areas of blended in colour. I think pencil is great for fine details and as a base underneath painted details. I would use paint for freckles, and for brows I now like to brush on pastel first, use a putty eraser to refine the shape, then add hair detail with a pencil. Hope that helps! 😊

Hi! It's not something I've done personally, but if you look at the area on the eyelid mechanism that is often cut out by customisers looking to open the eyelids more - It might be possible to add more material there to create the opposite effect? You could try adding a little piece of card to test it out, and if it works, replace that with something more sturdy like Apoxie sculpt or Milliput? Alternatively, if you install sleep eyes (a second pull cord to replace the spring) then you can manually set the position of the eyelids each time with the cords. I'd love to hear back what works for you! Hope that helps ^_^

You could use pastels, pencils or paints 😊 some people even stick fabric to them! Just make sure they’re sealed/varnished, and if they are a tight fit, you may need to carve away some of the upper eye hole so the lid doesn’t get scraped! 😆

I use a kneaded putty eraser to clean up pastel and pencil. A regular eraser is worth trying too. As long as you’re working in layers that have been sealed in already, you can gently wipe off the current layer without disturbing what you have underneath. Hope that helps ☺️

I use regular sand paper from the hardware shop, but I use finer and finer grits as I go on, so the number goes higher and higher, 120, 240, 400, 800 for example. You can get very very fine sandpaper that almost doesn’t feel rough any more, so you might need to try some different grit levels? Hope that helps!! 😄

I use Tamiya gloss because I had it already here 😁 I see lots of people using liquitex gloss too.

This custom was quite a while ago now, but if I said that then I suspect it was the sealant type I was using then? - not all of them are compatible with acrylics. I use mr super clear now, and it works nicely over acrylics, pastels and my other paints ^_^

Yes with a base coat and layering the same as the face you can colour the body, but, any jointed areas will rub away the colour with use. If you plan to pose and move the doll after colouring, I would recommend avoiding colouring the jointed areas, the friction of joints always wears down any varnish/top coat. I’ve see Hextian videos where he sculpts the joints into a static pose before painting, which is perfect if the doll is for display, that might be an option for you? I hope that helps! They are just regular fake eyelashes, so you’ll find them all over! Supermarkets, pharmacies, Amazon, eBay etc ☺️

Hahaha! ^_^ Oh yes, it is a good spray, and I've seen a good few other customisers using it on Blythe's too. I like to make use of what I have which is why I was keen to try the airbrush (since I'll never use it otherwise!) XD I've had no other problems with it before then, just unlucky that time! I hope you get on well with your customisation and have fun! ^_^

@@BethRamsden I have the doll already sculpted....I'm way to nervous to sculpt a doll face yet ...so will only be re doing eyelids....adding some eye make up and adding some vampire teeth ....yep I'm turning her into a vampire lol 😆....hoping too ...also need to add new strings .....I'm very nervous about removing the eye mechanism and not being able to get it back in ...🤣🤣🤣🤣then I'll be swearing....but your videos are fab and a great help ...thanks for reply ❤👍

Hi! I don't have a link I'm afraid, I just bought a cheap pack of human eyelashes online a long time ago. I hold the lash up to the eyelid and snip off any excess length from the outer edge (usually the longest lashes). Cut off a little at a time until it's the right length to fit in the space, before you add any glue. Hope that helps! ^_^

@@emileemaree I usually disassemble the eye mech, and soak the whites of the eyes in hot water to loosen any glue holding them in first. I then use a candle flame to slightly melt the tip of a glue stick (a full sized one, mini glue sticks aren't very good). I stick this melted end to the coloured eye chip and wait for it to cool. Then pull the glue stick away from the eye and it will (hopefully!) take the eye chip with it. The glue stick will then peel away from the eye chip so you can re-use it. It took me quite a bit of trial and error my first time, and I recommend looking up a few videos of this part before you try it yourself, be very careful with the flame!! ^_^

I think it is possible, but you probably won't get such a smooth finish as with a spray. There will possibly be brushstrokes on the face if you paint on the varnish. You can certainly try it though! ^_^ Thank you!

Yes wear a mask and make sure the room is well ventilated if doing it inside. You'll need a Respirator mask. I recommend using MSC mr super clear matte spray, and being careful not to spray when the weather is too hot/cold/humid, for the best results! ^_^

Hi! I recommend using Mr Super Clear before colouring the face, it protects the surface, and gives it a texture like paper, which is important to get the pastel pigment and pencil to stick to it 👍🏻

@@nicolegonzalez3781 you’ll be able to do a lot with a limited range of pastel colours, some browns and pinks etc (you might be able to buy them individually?) It’s really down to your personal preference I think, and the skin tone of your doll! You can try regular coloured pencils, acrylic paints, gouache paints, all kinds of materials will work to lay down your colour. 😁

@@louloutelouloute5947 salut! Désolé pour la réponse lente! Je ne ponce le visage qu'une seule fois pour commencer. Je vaporise fréquemment le vernis mat, après chaque couche de couleur qui me satisfait. Cela peut être de 2 à 10 fois ou plus.

Perhaps you could paint on a varnish or protective layer instead? Using a good sized flat brush to minimise brushstrokes showing? The ability to build up layers of colour is wonderful, but if you were perhaps painting on your make-up instead of using pastels then you could get the desired strength of colour in one layer? If you weren't able to cover the make-up once completed, you would have to be very careful to avoid chips and scratches. As you will have seen here, sometimes you just have to improvise and experiment! Best of luck with your customising!

I used pastel colors after sanding the face its very hard to remove if I made a mistake id have to sand it again to remove it , but the colors build up beautifully even without varnish I’m pretty happy with the results on my doll! I did the makeup on my doll without varnish and it looked nice! Only problem that id have to sand her face again if I want to change the makeup

Dopo i pastelli uso la pittura a guazzo. è una pittura all'acqua molto coprente. puoi anche usare vernice acrilica, che non si lava via con l'acqua. Grazie per aver guardato! ^_^
