I would love it if you could do an overview of some of (or all ha!) of your custom binds to give us a closer and more careful look at your unique books. I enjoy your overviews and I'm constantly looking for videos on custom binding. Thanks for sharing!
I'm SO glad I found this video!!! I've heard you mention "custom bound" books and seen your personal stuff and it blew my mind. I HAVE to have my MAXX collection in omnibus hardcover and possibly PITT and maybe Savage Dragon too. I'm never going to get rid of them so why not enjoy them in a premium format. Would love some pointers for a newbie if you got the time. Loved the video btw 😃
@@OmnidogsVault Ok! 😃 so they handle everything. I hand them over the comics, give them a cover design I jot down on a napkin, pay them the money and I get a nice hardcover that will sit on my book shelf and not in my basement. Perfect, thanks!!!!
Haha!! Well Tomasi wasn’t wrong lol! Just 5 years early! Scott Snyder said that there was going to be a Metal omnibus by the end of the year- that was also 2018!!! I’m glad DC is now upping their game though!!
I believe right around the time Tim Benson said he was leaving Houchen Bindery, David Banks released a statement saying he would no longer be designing and prepping books for custom binding unfortunately.
Have you guys ever held a book with a sheep / goat skin leather cover, for example an R.L. Allan bible? It is so soft that it is unbelievable! Have about 9 or 10 single issues sown into a binding than insert it into a goat skin leather cover. You can use that cover for any sown comics. Than you only need to have one goat skin. It will melt in your hand. They are that soft.
Hey Omnidog! I'm new to custom binding single issues. I'm looking to bind the complete Aquaman rebirth run, but when I go to these sites and see all the order forums and stuff, it's very confusing. is there a video explaining the process or? What bindary would you recommend?
How did you print your custom TOC? Might be a stupid question but for once reddit has failed me in search of an answer. Is it just like a regular piece of copy paper that was printed at home? Or is it a special paper from staples or something? Any help is appreciated Omnidog (I keep coming back to this vid for inspiration)
Is Houchen bindery out of business? I found an ap article saying something along those lines but it’s been deleted. And i have yet to get a response to 3 of my messages spanning over 4 months...haha are they just terrible at customer service? I didn’t know who to go to besides OMNIDOG! “Help me Omni-dog-kenobi...you’re my only hope”
David Robertson huh! I haven’t heard anything about that! Let me check around. I also know there’s another binder that’s doing a good job on stuff. Let me get you that name too.
Nick, the talbe of contents I use Kinkos. I use a PSD file and the paper is the 24lb. There are other papers you can try, if you would rather have something nice.
Cool thanks Omar. Like you, I have used Kirk in the past for designing and prepping my books, but the last time out I designed and prepped everything myself and just interfaced straight with Houchen. Really happy with how everything turned out. Especially the covers, it's gratifying to see the covers you created by yourself in photoshop turn out so well. I just wasn't able to match the quality of Kirk's TOCs just printing them out from my own printer, not a huge deal but I want to improve with each go around. Houchen's new policy regarding 25 issues throws a wrench into a lot of my planned books, though. I'll have to figure something out.
Omnidog's Vault thank you for the response on an older video!! I am preparing to have my first go at book binding. I know someday they will release the omnibus for kings run on Batman but I own both the trades and the floppies so I’m planning on binding them for sentimental value on one of the runs they brought me back into comics. They say 2 trades or 25 issues for sizing. If the trades are tiny do you think I could fit more? Love both your videos! Also did you pay the premium for the custom covers?
@@jakespencer1508 I had these made quite a while ago, so my memory isn't perfect but I did choose my own covers. If the trades are tiny I would try to fit more in if you can!
