If I may interject, I'd highly recommend getting acoustic centres as close as possible, with rims touching and flush mounting both drivers. Sure ther will be a little bit extra loading on the tweeter by a concave (and moving) cone of the LMF, but vertical off axis will be much improved. D28 goes pretty low, but still 3rd order HP and 2nd order LP will probably work best with these, as long as you can get a symmetrical notch with one of the driver's polarity reversed. Not a fan of vented myself, especially with 2way systems and I happen to run the Danes in sealed enclosures myself, with small signal Q below 0.47. Troels Gravesen is worth paying a visit to.
They look and sound lovely. I'm intrigued by what had opened the voice coils - was it a bad connection or were they literally opened by excess current?
Apparently it is a common problem with Scan Speaks. When I took them to Speaker Hospital the guy said strait away that they would need new braids. Voice coils are OK.
