Nice mods and it's awesome to see the Curl get some love. It's my favorite LM by far. Mine is set up a bit differently because I'm a firefighter. I swapped in the serrated blade, a Rebar pliers head with replaceable cutters (Bonus: the Rebar pliers fit way way better than the stock pliers or the Wave/Charge pliers with my new toolset), and I replaced the file with a heavily modified large pair of scissors from a Chinese clone multitool. The scissors were top 3 in @MaxlevelEDC's scissor showdown videos and they're simply amazing, plus they have a rounded bullnose so I don't have to worry about cutting a patient if I use them for removing clothing during a medical emergency. Because of those awesome clone scissors I was able to replace the interior scissors with the medium flathead (aka just another prybar to pair with the large flathead that it comes with). Lastly, the can opener was replaced with a scalpel blade holder from Kristen Van Patten and surprisingly that is the tool I find myself using the most.
Wow, that’s a lot of utility in a tool that size. Might have to give some of these mods a try. The curls still one of my top 3 I think but I’ve been carrying a pretty broad rotation lately for testing purposes. Need to get this one back in the lineup soon.
Best multitool mod I've come across! Really cool to see how each tool is tailored to your specific use cases. I also carry a Leatherman Curl, which is nearly a perfect tool for me. One gripe I do have is that the wirecutters are fairly weak, which can cause wire to slip between the cutting jaws and completely seizing up the tool. Ideally I'd want sharper/harder blades or anvil style cutters like the Wingman. Do you know if the Rebar or Wave plierhead is compatible with the Curl? Do the replaceable wirecutters significantly reduce the strength of the plierhead in any way?
Thanks! My wire cutters don't see a ton of use thankfully, but i believe it's possible to swap the pliers out for the wave pliers. I haven't heard of any issues with their strength. Best of luck!
