Heeeey these are my AEs!!! I've been extremely satisfied with this transformation Michael, thank you! I didn't even know you did a video of this project. What a pleasant surprise. Oh yeah, they were indeed brand new, only tried on for size. I've worn them many times & no major crease nor crack in the mirror shine. These shoes are still looking good. The sole dye was also a nice surprise.

I don't wanna seem like I'm blowing smoke, but I can't believe how good these turned out! Something about that ox blood color with that little bit of dark just makes these spectacular! Great work!!!

Thanks so very much. The only thing I feel could be improved was the burnishing didn't have quite as much of a fade as I would like but I think once they were polished it blended things much better. I think on the feet they would look great though.

Well I do have to say, after watching his videos, step by step, I've decided that first thing tomorrow morning, I will go out and buy Fiebings and Angelus, Leather Dye, and start a project on a pair of New York Vintage boot. I will take a picture of before and after, then post it. I have written all the colors I need.
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc Год назад
Sounds great. Don't forget some acetone and rubber gloves for stripping. Only other recommendation is to find a thrift store or cheap eBay pair as a first project and then move onto your personal pair 👍

Love that Oxblood with the black burnishing absolutely beautiful. I may try to do that on a pair of shoes as well as changing one to Navy. I have already started some minor patina experimentation on a couple of pairs.
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 2 года назад
Thanks very much! Be careful with navy. The yellow base color of most shoes makes the blue dye lean green. If you can find a grey shoe to start the transition to blue is easier. I have a blue patina video as well that may help.

Hello doc,newbie question, what is the advantage of applying base layer of Fiebings oxblood (lighter), over directly using angelus oxblood only (darker)? Will be the result be very different? Thanks, subscribed
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc Год назад
Thanks for the sub! Honestly I don't know if there is an advantage or not. It started a few years ago where I did a fiebings first coat and found it to be too pink and adding the angelus over it gave me the exact shade I wanted. Angelus out of the bottle appears very red to me where the fiebings has a more purple hue though lighter. I have not tried Angelus alone but think it might lean too red on its own. So we will call it a Bob Ross style "happy little accident" and I have just stuck with doing it that way.

Is it better to do this brand new or used or completely broken-in shoes and/or boots? I want to do this myself, but I’m pretty new to and I want to have the best finish I can do.

@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 11 месяцев назад
I use Fiebings, Angelus and Saphir dyes all interchangeably. All are alcohol based. You can dilute them with regular rubbing alcohol.

I mean...You're not wrong. That could totally be done. Grab some pre owned pairs off of ebay and fix them up...Like a brand new pair after.

Doc, I aim to achieve ae bordeaux color, what dye/dyes do you recommend? Thanks
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc Год назад
Sorry I can't be as specific as that. I don't know AE Bordeaux in particular. You will likely have to mix and match and play around to get what you want. I like fiebing oxblood, Angelus oxblood and Saphir Bordeaux. Add a drop of black to darken, add a splash of alcohol to dilute and lighten. I like to test a stripe of each color on a sheet of white paper to see how they look when dry. That's about all I can tell you. Hope that helps.

Looking to get something like this done. Can anyone do do this, or do I need to take my shoes to a shoe cobbler or someone of the sort? Thanks.
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc Год назад
I would say anyone can do it but you may want to practice on thrift store shoes or cheap ebay pairs first. Be careful of sending them to a cobbler. Some do great and others claim to be able to do it but lack the talent.
