just a bit of advice try using painters masking paper for like Lowes or H. Depot etc... because it gives exact curvature and you can feel body lines and it's cheep I'm not trying to take anything away just my 2 cents. Great job. Shane P.

If you fill your tubing with sand it will keep it from having a kinked look. It comes out looking like it was mandrel bent.

pretty good job overall- however unless your state required the flares to be that wide I personally would have made them narrower, but its your jeep and if it pleases you thats all that matters, good work and original! +also on your HF bender- Have you tried putting sand inside the tube? cap the end/s with duct tape and fill with sand then bend it- it helps guard against the bending die from crushing the wall of the tube.
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 5 лет назад
Thanks man. And yes I have heard of the sand trick. Never tried it but I think it will be worth trying.

He lives in Washington so they have severe lift laws. Bumper height BS and whatever. I use to live in Salmon Creek Washington and moved back to Oregon because of it. We don't have lift laws like Washington does. We do have to have proper flares and flaps but that's about it. A guy down the street from me daily drives his Powerstroke on 49s and he can easily fit 54s. It's totally legal here but not in Washington. So basically he did what he did with the Jeep flares for multiple reasons.

MIssed opportunity, make another extension of tubing that is flat like a step, at the bottom end of your tubes, for access to roof rack.

@MuddyBeards4X4

Yes for the armor for sure. As for the skin I would probably go a little thinner. Easier to work and the strength comes from the pipe

I'm making some tube doors for my XJ and ran into the same issue with the same bender and pipe. The pipe was to loose in the shoe. Shim up one side of the pipe in the shoe and it will bend perfectly without any kinks. Great build!
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 5 лет назад
That makes sense. I will have to try that
@fishrrelaxing9361
@fishrrelaxing9361 4 года назад
Would’ve been really nice if you had cut the pipes at a slight angle and and had the flare tapering upwards.should’ve skined the bottom too that gonna be a mud catcher.

My thought for the fuel door was to poke the cardboard with a box cutter, find that gap between teh door and the quarter and use teh box cutter for that.

@coolHandLuke5150
@coolHandLuke5150 5 лет назад
It's not about looks, it's about function. Granted XJ trail lights are cheap. But a ticket on the way home from the trail for a busted taillight is not cheap. Which leads the office to look over your rig and find other violations.........
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 5 лет назад
This is trailered to the trail and again I am all about function over looks, but I prefer this design so I went with it. The tube fender is a great rub rail to protect the tail light so far.

Not to detract from your work & showing others how you did it. However your starting angle is obtuse (more than 90° less than 180°) so it is a 140° angle. I see & hear people saying this in correctly all over on many different builds, trades, etc. but it's not correct. It's bad enough occurring in the field but shouldn't be incorrectly used when teaching, showing, demonstrating, etc.
