Now that the 32 firewall was been modified to fit into the Sweet Heart Roadsters, Matt turns his attention to the windshield portion of the cowl. The stock windshields on a Model A Roadster are iconic, but the era or style of this build requires something more. Matt plans on removing the dash rail and smoothing the top of the cowl to flow directly into the dash of the car. Once the cowl is smoothed Matt can work on creating his spin on a Duvall windshield. What are your thoughts on a custom windshield? Should Matt use a Duvall style or mold a later Ford windshield into the cowl? Leave a comment below!!

Hotrod Dave here,when we built the windshield frame on my 31 ford,we cut off the stock posts and fabled a v,d sheet metal frame,cut out the panels for the glass.Next we sent the cutouts to the glass guy.we marked the templates for which side,the glass guy didn,t.One side needed a little grinding.It turned out great,looks like it,s doing 200 mph sitting in the driveway.It,s about 8 inches tall.2inches taller would make my seating situation easier.

Watching you TIG weld I was reminded about the OLD and I Mean OLD carbon arc welders. I wonder if any of you guys have ever had the opportunity to try using one of those. They work very similar to a TIG (without the shield gas)

As much as I love the Duvall style my vote is for using a later model window frame and doing a proper job of blending it in. that would look real neat!
@billgraham9799

The Duvall provides that true classic look that makes the car look like it's going fast... even while it's standing still! In my opinion, the posts just look like a clunky add on that takes away from the pure streamline nature of the Hotrod designs of the time when aviation enthusiast returning from the war were starting to apply lessons learned in aero dynamics to make their cars lighter, leaner and faster! This is only my opinion, yours may be different and will respect yours whatever it is.... follow your dreams and passions for pure joy!

How about a one off custom dash built to the shape the cowl is now? Also, I hope you are considering a home styled Duvall. Great work! Hey Mike, it's ok. Professionals do the same thing. Ask me how I know!

Hi Matt, I really enjoy watching each piece that you manufacture, modify and place in the car, it looks very good as it is going and how it evolves to become a beautiful hot rod, very good the image in the 11:40 minute showing that Matt I'm not bald yet, to my envy that with 47 years I have little left to comb pe, I hope my sense of humor is understood in the translation and as always I send you a big hug from Buenos Aires Argentina.

Either of the builds work for me , they both have a place in the hobby and both will be a blast to drive ! The 39 would be my daily driver and the roadster the weekend cruiser .

Seems the original hot roders really only had gas brazing, stick welders and skills. The stuff some of those grey breads did was truly pretty amazing.

He lost the video footage?!? Well I'm shocked and mildly outraged. I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong. Yeah, right. I think I like the '39 style build, kind of quick and dirty, get it on the road, but I really appreciate the work that goes into the smoother, more finished rod. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks.

Leave that 1" tube under the dash. Or move it too mount the dash. It will stiffen the whole structure inc the door hinges.

Did that flame up on you because that was CAST METAL that you were welding to on the cowl? Just curious..

Cope the doors to blend the dash ... and no fixed post windshield treatments. The first 2 shown look like sh*t .. makes it appear as if someone chopped the top off a coupe. Bleh' !!! You could make up a nice Hallock or Duvall piece I'm sure .. or swap/purchase one of the castings. I like the Wanlass windshields but my opinion is too much playback. If you could blend your own vision of a Wanlass Hallock Duvall inspired windscreen treatment .. it would fit the show rod, Hollywood playboy style build of a period correct, high end "what if" build. Type in your search of either Duvall or Hallock windshield .. with Kustomrama. Tons of black & white photos of roadsters wearing either. Love this build !! Love all your builds .. but am leaning heavy on all show build roadsters. Buzz DeChamp's '31 roadster, Tommy the Greek's '36 Phaeton, Tony La Masa/Ricky Nelson roadster, Eddy Dye's roadster, Mac Schutt roadster .. hell even Barney Navarro's roadster. Vision is everything. Make it happen !! Some of those listed are Duvall, while others are traditional or no windshield. Check out Sylvester McCabe's '29 roadster, & Jackie Howerton's '32 roadster .. both have Duke Hallock windshields. Basically inspired by the Auburn Speedster's windshield of lore. Have fun Matt !!! As if you don't already. We know you do !! Can't wait to see what's next !

Jesse James welded up a really good looking Duvall style windshield frame for a roadster but unfortunately, I don't think he did a video of building it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8zlL7C5KpBk.html I,m trying to build a windshield for my 31 A Roadster which started out as a 5 window Coupe. I'm having trouble finding a source of window channel etc. to get started from scratch. Love your channel. Mike in Northern MI
