when you get to the 2000s i would recomend a Iore or some large electric locomotive for the ore line

Another option for the ore is to truck it down the plateau and then put in on a train to the steel mill

I am late to the series and I don't know if you already did something with it, but maybe you could make a spiral down the mountain from iron ore mines. I think that should be shorter and more efficient route. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_(railway)

I tried that between videos and unfortunately at the moment we do not have fast enough or powerful enough trains to make a route like that possible. I would like to add that in later though when have the trains available to make that work.
